Well your take about me is wrong.I take it you're in the camp of siding with players throwing a strop if the club forget to send them a Birthday card !!!
Game is seriously going, if not already gone, when you've now got fans wanting the players to still have their Christmas party when they're bang smack in the middle of a shocking run and playing crap !!!
I'm from a different generation, I get that, but my god we've gone soft nowadays - football, society, crime, it's an endless list of tail wagging the dog !!
Bit childish there Dick. Someone disagrees with you so you throw a mega "bring back the birch, never did me any harm" strop. You're entitled to your opinion, however misguided, and others are entitled to theirs. Instead of crying about it, why not engage in debate to see if you can possibly understand why people might feel differently, especially when it's you that appears to be in a tiny minority on this oneI take it you're in the camp of siding with players throwing a strop if the club forget to send them a Birthday card !!!

Being relegated from the championship as the smallest club there doesn't mean you're 'dross'.No. But if you've been relegated it does seem a pointless occasion. I mean wasn't ours held on the evening of the day we got relegated ? Talk about a damp squib ! Great, you've been the best player in a team of dross, not the most prestigious of awards and you imagine the players didn't want to be there either. Avoidable, others have done it and we should have followed suit.
That is exactly what he is sayingI take it you're in the camp of siding with players throwing a strop if the club forget to send them a Birthday card !!!
I have shares in Clinton Cards, don't you know. That is exactly what he is saying

I haven’t attended one of these evenings but isn’t it wider than the men’s first team? If so, then them being relegated would have much less impact on whether it should go ahead or not.No. But if you've been relegated it does seem a pointless occasion. That’s a bit different because it only affects the players rather than paying punters. The effect on our players of not cancelling their Christmas drinking bender to Dublin this year could clearly be seen in the Swansea away game………Cancelling your end of season awards night after a poor season is as pathetic as clubs that cancel their Christmas party because of a poor run of form.
Oh god, don't get Dick started on that again. You may want to read further up the thread...I haven’t attended one of these evenings but isn’t it wider than the men’s first team?
No one’s saying you have to be interested in them, that’s your choice. But you’re mixing up two different things.I guess it would bring profile to the club in a roundabout way but it's not improving or enhancing the men's team
Again, you are missing my point. Re-read this. I responded to someone saying the women’s team meant as much as the mens in terms of Oxford United. Sorry, but it doesn’t on any level. Good luck to the women’s team but I don’t follow them, nor do I have any interest in their team. I’m not being disrespectful, I’m stating a fact - nothing to do with giving my head a wobble. What do you want me to say if I have no interest or feel no allegiance ? Why can someone not state their like, dislike or ambivalence towards something without being bracketed ? It sure is a bizarre world we live in.
Just guessing but possible that they felt doing so on the day we were relegated didn’t hit the right tone. Why wasn’t the supporters player award done on the pitch for the last game. Always used to be
LongI was struggling to think of our best player across both championship seasons. Everyone has been so patchy. Cumming and Brown brilliant last year but didn’t bring it this year. Helik brilliant for 6 months. Mills brilliant for 6 months. Cam brilliant when he’s not injured (but too slow for this level). Placheta, Currie, BDK, Ben Nelson, Lankshear, MPH have all had purple patches. Even Matt Phillips was quite good for about 3 games.
Long has had 1 MOTM award in 2 years from memory. He’s not in the “player of the championship” category for me.Long
That’s why I said it was off on a tangent, I don’t really care about awards nights at all if I am honest, haven’t since Nigel Jemson told me to f**k off at a Quarry Rovers one at pressed steel club in the 90s. They really could have picked a more cheerful player to give out the awards.
Matt le tissier, couldn’t have been more uninterested at a kids award ceremony if he tried, the following year Chris kamara did the job to perfection. That’s why I said it was off on a tangent, I don’t really care about awards nights at all if I am honest, haven’t since Nigel Jemson told me to f**k off at a Quarry Rovers one at pressed steel club in the 90s. Give him and Will Vaulks a pair of awards for “decent club men who banged in a 6/10 most weeks, with the odd mistake here and there”MOTM
And also usually spent most of the game enjoying the bar facilities rather than watching the game.MOTM Awards are picked by the sponsors and offen who they want to meet and have photo with

Agree with the general sentiment here, but most (if not all) professional women's football teams in the country run at quite a significant loss, including the likes of Arsenal. I am not sure it will ever be profitable unless women and girls start turning out at women's football matches in much larger numbers. If we want to look at things in a bit more black and white. Anything/anyone that creates a potential revenue stream to support OUFC should be supported and encouraged. In terms of the women's team, the higher profile they become and the more successful they become, the greater opportunity there is to generate revenue. Whether that's from ticket sales (in a new stadium), shirt sales, advertising etc.
I'd much rather the club took a serious interest in generating revenue this way, than relying on some bobbins Indonesian footballer and bobbins Dutch footballer with an Indonesian nan on TikTok.
Or men. There's no need for it to be pigeonholed like thatam not sure it will ever be profitable unless women and girls start turning out at women's football matches in much larger numbers.
Yes, fair point. I'm just not sure that will ever happen.Or men. There's no need for it to be pigeonholed like that
Never say never, but if it does happen it's probably going to be a slow processYes, fair point. I'm just not sure that will ever happen.
