General End of Season Awards

It's 2026, not 1976, and whether you like it or not, the women's team is every bit as much a part of Oxford United as the men's team. They are well worth a watch - some very good technical play (and less rolling around the floor pretending to be injured).

Sorry, that is just rubbish if you think the women's team is as much part of the club as the men's. I wouldn't care less whether the women's team were relegated or won the women's CL, it means absolutely nothing to me. I'm not disrespecting them but their success has no interest or importance to me whatsoever. Yes, you're correct it is 2026 - is that supposed to mean we have to like something that we don't like ? I'm one of those rare breed of people who have a mind of their own and wont be shoe horned into having to do something or follow something just to tick boxes.

You are certainly a rare (dying) breed, but please don't think that this is anything to be proud of.

Women and girls are coming to Oxford United games in greater numbers than they have before and are a hugely valued part of our fan base. In addition, the women's team are showing a real revival under Liam Gilbert after a difficult start to the season. The hope is that they will be pushing for promotion to the Championship next season. This is not just a box ticking exercise, but a driver for our Owners to make Oxford United inclusive to all and to expand the brand across all areas of the community.

No one is asking for your unwavering support, but your comments are disrespectful to those who represent our club and a large number of our fans (of all genders).

It would mean nothing to you if Oxford United Women won the Women's Champions League, beating every other women's football team in Europe? Nothing at all? And you still think they wouldn't deserve to share an end-of-season awards dinner with our men's team? Wow.

No-one is asking you to shoe horn yourself into having to do anything. But to want to shoe-horn our women's team out of the club's football conversation is pretty mean-spirited (other words are available).

You are missing the point. The poster said, or very much implied, the women's team was on equal standing to the men's in terms of importance - I'm rubbishing that as absolute nonsense. I'm neither proud nor ashamed to say I have a mind of my own - I don't think it's something that needs to be bracketed.

It’s off on a tangent, and I will get people lying to look good here, but going by the different crowd sizes how many amongst our supporters really do care about the women’s team? I couldn’t tell you how they have done this season and I don’t know anyone amongst the wider group I go to games with and chat to who could, they literally never come up in conversation.

So, while it makes no difference to me if they all get awards on the same night, and I think that cancelling awards nights is just to look like you are doing something anyway, I don’t think someone saying that, in the vast majority of our fanbase viewpoints, that the women’s team are nothing to do with the men’s is that much of an out their view, seems pretty mainstream.

Not the words I used :ROFLMAO:

This really shouldn't be difficult to understand.

These are end of season awards to recognise those who have made an impact to our club. The women's team are simply another part of our club. Just as the U21's and academy are. Or those working in our communities or on the Stadium project.

Of course the men's team get the greatest coverage, support and financial input. But that doesn't mean that all the other elements of our club shouldn't also be respected and recognised.

Thank you. Exactly this.

I'll take myself back to the kitchen sink and just think about puppies.

I was at the end of season awards dinner, and the women's team were very united and supportive (and loud) with their teammates prizes

Liam Gilbert gave a really good interview too - and everything felt integrated as one club

I don't follow the women's team, though I know people who do. But the point is that the awards night is for the club, not just the men's first team.

That’s why I said it was off on a tangent, I don’t really care about awards nights at all if I am honest, haven’t since Nigel Jemson told me to f**k off at a Quarry Rovers one at pressed steel club in the 90s. They really could have picked a more cheerful player to give out the awards.

Come on give us the whole story...

Give your head a wobble chap.

It’s not about “ticking boxes,” it’s about recognising everyone who represents Oxford United. You can personally not be interested, that’s fine, but that doesn’t make their achievements meaningless to the club or to other supporters.

Football clubs are bigger than just one team—they’re an entire organisation. Respecting that doesn’t mean you have to suddenly care about everything equally, just that you acknowledge others do.

I'm amazed the miserable sod turned up.

I guess it would bring profile to the club in a roundabout way but it's not improving or enhancing the men's team

Again, you are missing my point. Re-read this. I responded to someone saying the women’s team meant as much as the mens in terms of Oxford United. Sorry, but it doesn’t on any level. Good luck to the women’s team but I don’t follow them, nor do I have any interest in their team. I’m not being disrespectful, I’m stating a fact - nothing to do with giving my head a wobble. What do you want me to say if I have no interest or feel no allegiance ? Why can someone not state their like, dislike or ambivalence towards something without being bracketed ? It sure is a bizarre world we live in.

Are we saying you only have end of season awards if you get promoted or in play offs
Cos I'm not!

No. But if you've been relegated it does seem a pointless occasion. I mean wasn't ours held on the evening of the day we got relegated ? Talk about a damp squib ! Great, you've been the best player in a team of dross, not the most prestigious of awards and you imagine the players didn't want to be there either. Avoidable, others have done it and we should have followed suit.

Cancelling your end of season awards night after a poor season is as pathetic as clubs that cancel their Christmas party because of a poor run of form.

I take it you're in the camp of siding with players throwing a strop if the club forget to send them a Birthday card !!!

Game is seriously going, if not already gone, when you've now got fans wanting the players to still have their Christmas party when they're bang smack in the middle of a shocking run and playing crap !!!

I'm from a different generation, I get that, but my god we've gone soft nowadays - football, society, crime, it's an endless list of tail wagging the dog !!

If we want to look at things in a bit more black and white. Anything/anyone that creates a potential revenue stream to support OUFC should be supported and encouraged. In terms of the women's team, the higher profile they become and the more successful they become, the greater opportunity there is to generate revenue. Whether that's from ticket sales (in a new stadium), shirt sales, advertising etc.

I'd much rather the club took a serious interest in generating revenue this way, than relying on some bobbins Indonesian footballer and bobbins Dutch footballer with an Indonesian nan on TikTok.

Tell me more about this Indonesian nan.

Can she play in the 10 role?
