National News End Child Food Poverty

Looks like the left over play-off final food is being distributed.

"It is understood the items include a mixture of dry and frozen foods such as soups, hot dogs, beans and vegetables."

Maybe those previous centres (under another name) weren`t working........ nothing wrong with evolution and improvement is there?

Even the Guardian acknowledged their failing in 2010

But by 2019 the same paper changed their tune....

And even the "closures due to austerity" isn`t necessarily true as some have already been "re-branded".
Not performing as desired on one metric does not equate to 'not working'.

As the minister said...

Primarolo said: "Sure Start has been instrumental in helping families give their children the best start in life. But for many this is still a relatively new way of working.

"Our ongoing communications campaign is raising awareness of children's centres, so that families know about their local children's centre and the services it provides, and outreach workers are playing an important role in ensuring children's centres reach the most vulnerable families."

Chill your beans... it was 11 years ago.
Nothing wrong with improving things is there?

So inflation is going up and the cost of living is increasing.

So what do we need to do to help everyone? Fire away..... remember you can`t give things away because someone has to pay for it.

Food security - evidently it is very weak, with a large number of imported foodstuffs and over reliance on balancing exports and imports. Get back to seasonal food - and no avocados. :)

Supply Chain - effort needs to be put into breaking the control and power supermarkets have, or the complex long supply chains that take too much of a cut.

Investment - local food systems and shorter supply chains that pay a fair price to producers and growers and keep healthy, sustainable food affordable for all. The much-vaunted "levelling up" money needs to invest in locally-based food infrastructure and networks.

Income - increased food/fuel prices without any change to income be it Real Living Wage or Universal Credit, will push millions of households into an even more precarious financial situation. We need to calculate a realistic minimum wage based on the true cost of living.

Vote for me, your local Socio-conservative-Taliban. :)
