You can be critical of both Trump and Europe you know, it's not one or the other.

There is defening silence on one and very much aimed at the other. You cannot seriously state there is proportionate criticism of European leaders compared to Trump on here and in the wider media. You can be critical of both Trump and Europe you know, it's not one or the other.
Trump is being criticised on way more than the single issue of Ukraine. And claiming 'deafening silence' whilst linking directly to a BBC article on what you are saying is hardly being reported (I heard the same reports on the radio this morning as well) sort of negates your point as you make it.There is defening silence on one and very much aimed at the other. You cannot seriously state there is proportionate criticism of European leaders compared to Trump on here and in the wider media.
The EU gets a free ride on here and in general amongst the middle classes. There is defening silence on one and very much aimed at the other. You cannot seriously state there is proportionate criticism of European leaders compared to Trump on here and in the wider media.
Not that hard for some who didn't stop talking about it for years on all the Brexit threads. Strange that the thread entitled "Donald Trump" mentions him more than Europe too!Hard to be as angry at a load of dullards in Brussels wearing ill fitting suits.
Both the EU and Donald Trump are obnoxious. But the EU manages to hide it's obnoxiousness so much better than trump. Not that hard for some who didn't stop talking about it for years on all the Brexit threads. Strange that the thread entitled "Donald Trump" mentions him more than Europe too!
I can't resist replying to this, not least because I think it disingenuous to compare a 27 Member State EU with one man. I'm certainly no apologist for the EU, but: -Both the EU and Donald Trump are obnoxious. But the EU manages to hide it's obnoxiousness so much better than trump.
EU officials have made claims that Britain "belongs" to the EU. A lot of their rhetoric is positively Trumpian and yet all too often they get away with it.
At least Trump was elected democratically. An alien concept to the EU!
Oh do behave. Give us some concrete examples of positively Trumpian EU rhetoric.EU officials have made claims that Britain "belongs" to the EU. A lot of their rhetoric is positively Trumpian and yet all too often they get away with it.
I did. In the first sentence of the post you quoted!Oh do behave. Give us some concrete examples of positively Trumpian EU rhetoric.
Come on, Lodox, you can’t get away with that ‘lazy’ response. The EU’s view on UK membership doesn’t in any way compare with Trump’s imperialist style rhetoric, as I posited in my first bullet point response to your previous contribution.I did. In the first sentence of the post you quoted!
You didn’t. I googled that sentence and got nothing.I did. In the first sentence of the post you quoted!

Londox, for goodness sake, that article is ten years old and simply a reflection of Germany’s and the wider EU’s view of the importance of the UK in helping to maintain Western Europe’s economic and security well being at that time. In no way does a piece from a decade ago - Trumpian style, as you describe it - reflect the rhetoric we hear from Trump. Here in 2025; I once again give you Canada, Greenland, the Panama Canal and the terrified inhabitants of Gaza. Come on Londox, there is absolutely no comparison between the EU and Trump, certainly if you’re talking ‘obnoxious’.
The problem is @Londox is one of millions that believes this crap. The read on social media, they don't question it, they repeat it, they believe it. I worry for my children.Londox, for goodness sake, that article is ten years old and simply a reflection of Germany’s and the wider EU’s view of the importance of the UK in helping to maintain Western Europe’s economic and security well being at that time. That’s as “trumpian” as the British prime minister saying, before the Indy referendum, that Scotland should remain in the union because it belongs in the UK. I.e. not at all.
But the UK is a country not a political bloc. It's more akin to saying Scotland "belongs" to Westminster. That’s as “trumpian” as the British prime minister saying, before the Indy referendum, that Scotland should remain in the union because it belongs in the UK. I.e. not at all.
I think you need to rethink that statementBut the UK is a country not a political bloc.
You know what I mean though. The UK was formed in the early 1700s from a group of nations.I think you need to rethink that statement![]()
So the UK was a member of a group and another member of the group said that they should stay in that group because they belong. And you think that’s positively trumpian rhetoric? You know what I mean though. The UK was formed in the early 1700s from a group of nations.
The "European Union" was only formed in those terms in the early 1990s and the EEC just after the WW2.
The EU might act like it's a country but it isn't. The EU is purely political. Nation states are about more than just politics.

Trump is (and I can't work out if it's intentional or not) hilarious.Great speech from DJT today. Apparently Biden “wasn’t the sharpest bulb”. Lol.
Given his confusion between wwi and wwii in the same speech, I think it’s not intentional. It would be hilarious if he wasn’t sending troops in on his own people and appointing absolute clowns and grifters to key positions!Trump is (and I can't work out if it's intentional or not) hilarious.
His cadence is like that of a stand up comic. I saw a clip of him the other day advising Greta thunberg attend anger management classes.Given his confusion between wwi and wwii in the same speech, I think it’s not intentional.
