I know we all hated playing in it when we were in L1, but do you think we are missing out playing in the Vertue Trophy (or whatever it’s called)?

Perfect chance to get some of non starter and even non benchers playing come competitive matches.

Absolute waste of time of a 'competition'.

And, personally, I don't really wish to see any more minutes from Tom Bradshaw, Louie Sibley or Mark Harris thanks all the same.

Wouldn’t go that far but it does feel like there aren’t enough games these days, with the stupid international breaks. I wouldn’t mind seeing a bit of Josh Johnson and Leo Snowdon, and Tyler Goodrham.

Not really. Can't we just play those who need game time in the U23 or reserves?

On a personal note I've not attended an EFL trophy game since the Barnsley final in 2016. So I'm definitely not missing it.

Around 10 fewer games per season, so kinder to the wallet .

I only ever went to 4 games in it, Swindon and Millwall at home and the two Wembley finals and enjoyed all 4 (well the days out at Wembley anyway) so it did throw up the odd moment. Pressure free football with the chance to give players runouts.

I mean you don’t give a s**t whether you win it or not, you don’t want to get relegated to play in it but it has its moments.

I didn’t go to any games apart from the Barnsley final but it was something to take a bit of interest in. I’m so sad I watched a game against Chelsea kids online, which was when I first saw the godlike genius of Josh Murphy, frozen out by failed manager Liam Manning.

Didn’t you go to Millwall game with the trouble? Ended up in a bush or something?

I met a Swedish man (here in Sweden) on Saturday, who said he'd been to England once. When I told him I was an Oxford fan, he said "Oh yes, I think I saw them when I went to Wembley for the paint cup thing final against Barnsley". Your only ever trip to the UK, and you go to that match 😂

Before it got B Team Bastardised, it was a good tournament.

I understand the original post, but if our U23 side is in a league, that should take care of it, as they are allowed a certain number of over 23 year olds per game.

I’d rather see the return of the Anglo-Italian cup than the tin pot trophy!

Let's be honest - it would be awesome if they restarted the Anglo-Italian Cup!

Random no pressure away games against random Serie B teams, the likes of Venezia, Palermo, Bari and Sampdoria?

What's not to like?

(other than the fact that Sw*ndon won the original incarnation twice.......)

Ditto - tinpot glory hunter.

Other than Wembley, my only match was the 1-4 away win at a freezing and snowy Crawley, consisting of 3 penalties for us (2 of which contributed to a Rob Hall hattrick) and Tyler Goodrham's debut when he came on as a 2nd half sub to break our youngest ever player record.

We had already qualified from the group, and they were guaranteed to miss out, so the attendance was a meager 412. I only attended as this was when I lived just a 30 min drive from the Broadfield Stadium, and had not yet managed to watch us at all that season.

I miss it in the sense that the games in it were better than training ground reserve games. It gave a lot of the squad and youngsters a chance for a run out in front of proper stadiums and (admittedly small) crowds. Other than that, they aren’t matches I have rushed too although when London-based I did do the Dagenham and Millwall away matches after work. The 2016 final was fun even in defeat. 2017 definitely less so.

Some of our ‘seven in a row’ wins have been EFL Trophy wins so it must mean something to us!

I went to the chelsea match with the longest penalty shoot out ever! All meaningless as we had already qualified but a box had to be ticked!

The only completely random games I've ever been to in person were things like Tranmere-Cremonese. Top entertainment.

Think I only ever did the 2 finals - Coventry one being my eldest’s first ever game.

Odd feeling of not really caring too much that we lost in Wembley finals!

I don't miss the actual competition, and (since I went to very few matches played in it, except for the glory hunting finals!) it would be silly to say I did. I do wonder if the lack of 'doesn't really matter' games means a lack of opportunities for fringe players to get game time that is less than first team but more than practice match.
