Dealt with it, stopped them, arrested them before the event, great work by the Garda.............. think the woman arrested can apply for bail today.

Strangely I did see some online "comparisons of two tier policing" between the bomb incident and the mosque on a bonfire.

Personally I don`t have any problem with surveillance infringing a potential terrorists individual liberties................ same as facial recognition operations...if you`ve done now`t wrong you just go about your business.

Sometimes a larger stick is required for the benefit of the majority.

Surely you have "broad surveillance" to locate specific people and then much tighter surveillance when you identify "risk elements"....... I mean football fans are used to that if nothing else.

Anyone remember the official "possible risk" database that OUFC held? All kept rather hush hush and eventually "went missing" when a particular SLO left..............that is the sort of bad surveillance we don`t want.

If you trust that any state, but in particulsr ours, would run this well and properly and within reasonable limits then I can see your point but unfortunately I don't have anything like that level of faith in bureaucracy and power. The state needs to be heavily shrank, not to grow

a) They can't be infiltrated because it's just one person.
b) You can't listen in on conversations/emails/instant messaging because it's just one person. They're not get send emails to themselves!

I'm sure if the German police knew that an attack was imminent, then they would have acted beforehand.

at the moment facial recognition being ok if you've "done nowt wrong" is one thing if you are a white male, the only grouping for which the false positive rates are in any way acceptable. Otherwise you would have better chances of accuracy throwing a ping pong ball at random.

"We are dealing with a suspected perpetrator, who had previously drawn attention to himself through a high volume of criminal offences, radicalisation and affiliation with the Islamist scene," Dobrindt said.

In May 2025, prosecutors said he travelled via Turkey to Lebanon, with the intention of joining the Islamic State group (IS) in Syria. While in Lebanon he allegedly made contact with several individuals he believed were members of IS.
He was arrested in Lebanon in July 2025 and sentenced to three months in prison for incitement to religious and sectarian conflict.
Then in November 2025 he returned to Germany where he was arrested at Berlin Brandenburg Airport and held in pre-trial detention.
In May this year, he was sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison for "preparing a serious act of violence endangering the state". The decision was deferred for six months and he was placed under the supervision of a parole officer.

He was previously convicted of assault and robbery in 2022, and of robbing a victim of headphones in 2020.

I`m no expert but I think he qualified to be pretty close to the top of a "watch list"....................

I suppose Germans are not likely to riot so this will be quickly forgotten until the next inevitable attack (Christmas market or something).

This seems to have slipped under the radar and a lot of questions still need to be answered. One minute it was an imminent terror attack in which the intervention of police saved many lives according to Kier Starmer, to some middle aged bloke being arrested on weapons charges that were unrelated to any alleged plot and 12 other people getting released without charge and no further investigation.

Sadly terrorism is a bigger threat than ever now and no matter how much surveillance is going on online or on the streets, there is simply too many immigrants who have entered the country illegally and we don't know who they are, where they have come from or why they are here.

as I said, the figure is heavily skewed by white males (especially older white males, the overall FPIR for 21-29 year olds is 5.2%).
