It's been an amazing tournament. The amount of games teams have to play make Football look like fussy and childish!

And I echo the comments on here and Twitter, make England games FREE! Even if Sky keep the rights, they should be made to put them on a terrestrial channel.

I think the competition certainly improved as it went on. Scores came down, the pitches got more bowler friendly, the games got closer (apart from us against the Aussies ) and the entertainment factor went way up. And we still have the Ashes to come!

Unforgettable day. Hopefully, with it being shown on free tv, the country will fall in love with cricket again. I grew up watching test matches on tv, it’s a shame that I tried to get my 13 yr old son and partners 12 yr old son interested today but they couldn’t really get a grip of the rules. They both loved the climax though, more than me - I thought I was going to have heart failure!

The game was a credit to both teams, I’ve always had a lot of respect for NZ, I think it was them that lead the way with how modern one day cricket should be played. Aggressive but within the rules of the game.

And I’ll never forget seeing England celebrate on a sun soaked evening at Lords.

Greatest CWC final ever? Given the occasion, it was the greatest One Day cricket match ever!

Feel sorry for NZ especially Stokes 6 off the bat when he dived and 6 when Boult caught Syokesband git the fence.

This is the only downside to the whole day - that I've grown to rather like the New Zealand cricket team. Seem like a decent bunch of blokes, and they definitely play far above the sum of their parts. Feel sorry for them losing that way.

In that respect, would've been an even better day if it had been India or Australia. Then there would have been none of those feelings.

Wow, what a mental game that was. England got some major luck but you still need to win the game whatever happens. What a wonderful advert for a sport considered to be dull and old. Nothing that exciting in Football or Tennis. 8 or 9 hours of gut wrenching tension and angst

I cannot be any prouder of someone like Archer who showed incredible moxy to bowl that last over. The top 4 almost lost that game for England with some dense batting, but Stokes and Buttler really pulled it off and kept their heads. Stokes played an innings that was a like pay back for the issues he had in the past couple of years. What a team!

Of course, that is an absolute sickener for NZ. They must be gutted to lose like that when they had basically won it but for some bad fielding and a flukey deflection.

I am almost numb, but a nice glass of something very nice is helping.

I first fell in love with cricket in 1976 when the West Indies toured England. I discovered Test Match Special, John Arlott, Brian Johnson, Don Mosey, Tony Cozier all. Yes the West Indies gave us a good thrashing, what a team! Possibly the greatest ever test match side including the likes of, Clive Lloyd, Gordon Greenidge, Michael Holding, Andy Roberts etc, etc. But my heroes were Knott, Steele, Snow, Willis and Randall.

I’ve experienced some ups and downs as an England supporter since those days, and although I’m a traditionalist when it comes to cricket and prefer the 5 day game (2005 Ashes series the greatest ever in my view) today was right up there in terms of excitement and nerve shredding emotion.

Huge credit to the kiwis though for their sportsmanship and grace, they didn’t deserve to lose and a tie was about right, although someone has to win and someone has to lose.

Slightly hollow victory. It’s akin to winning the WC final when a through ball going nowhere and running out of play diverts off the referee, wrong foots the keeper and leaves Harry Kane with an injury time tap in to win it.

Great to win it but it will forever be tainted by how it was won.

Don't agree with that at all. There was hardly a fag paper between the two teams and one had to win - there was no foul play or bad sportsmanship, just a slice of luck that tipped the balance just enough so that it was our day. You couldn't have begrudged the Kiwis if they'd won it and (sportingly) they didn't moan about it afterwards.

As many have said, it was great to see England win a world cup however I have so much respect for New Zealand. They were humble in the defeat and you can only feel sorry for them. Williamson is a quality player and captain.

On our front I thought stokes and buttler were incredible when England were in a really dark patch. Stokes looked physically and mentally drained at the end. Also a shout out to the bowlers, not just archer in the superover but plunkett and woakes too.

I hope everyone had a good drinks and celebrated properly, days like this won't come around too often.

Luck is a part of sport, we gave up runs to bad luck ourselves

Like others on here I dont think that it will be tainted or was a hollow victory.
Sure I feel sorry for NZ, but how it works is that one team has to win. We got the breaks but that happens in most Cup competitions in all sports.

Don’t agree with that that luck to that degree happens in most cup competitions. I’ve been watching cricket for 50 years and can never recall such a game changing slice of luck.

That was the best big match - for any sport - that I have seen in my life. (I’m no youngster.)

Effectively won by a freak incident.

The Kiwis are so admirable; sum so much more than the parts. I felt sorry for them
as well - incredibly tough opponents but great sportsmen.

What a shame one of the teams had to "lose" the world cup without losing either the game or the super over. But I'm overjoyed that we won it. Thought Buttler was the difference, he scored his runs at the required rate while Stokes, like most before him, got bogged down and made life very difficult towards the end. But he stuck with it and with two outrageous pieces of luck, got us in a position twice to win the game. The only way it could have been more exciting is if Wood's run out and Guptill's run out had been too close to call with the naked eye. Imagine waiting on "VAR" to discover the winners!

Just wow, utterly stunning game of cricket. 2 great teams going at it in the right way.

Ben Stokes was fantastic and Jos Buttler really stepped up. Both of them in the field and batting.

The thing that got me the most was Stokes apologising for the 4 overthrows off his bat. Class.

Really? Have you never seen a new batsman get dropped in the slips then go on to make a match winning score? I would call that a game changing slice of luck and it happens all the time.
