CWC 19 : England V Australia

Crazy shot selection from Buttler. To call him an idiot is pretty idiotic. The man is clearly talented, and treated us fans to some spectacular innings. Today was a day that he needed to dig in, and re build an innings with Stokes. That’s not Buttlers game!

Need Woakes and Stokes to build another partnership here.
He was an idiot in the context of this game. We were rebuilding and the shot he played wasn't needed at that time with who was to come after him.

You can see how near England got if they had not given away so many wickets early doors.

And to be fair. The arrogance of Bayliss to pick a player like Vince who has done nothing at the international level and make him the only batting option, is the cherry on top of the ? platter

All over.
Don't want to see Vince again. Drop Mo and bring back Plunkett. Statistically the best middle over bowler in the world. The three games we've lost he hasn't played in!!
Beaten by the better team in our own backyard and conditions. Poor.

Another theory to throw into the mix - did England peak too early coming into this? Australia have gone through the gears well in this tournament even shrugging off a terrible start against the West Indies and a defeat to India. England are going in reverse. Their brand of cricket now looks kamikaze at a tournament level.

Also, there’s a horrific lack of depth in batting in English cricket. If we lost Wood to injury, we’d call up Plunkett or Willey or Curren. We lose Roy and the best we have is Vince?! Crikey. It’s even worse for the Test side.

Anyway back to the inept batting from England bar Stokes. This team misses Jason Roy at the top of the order. Vince will never offer us anything. He as useful as Keaton Jennings as an opener (pants)!

That’s two games now where Stokes has been the stand out player. The other Batsmen need too look long and hard at themselves, because that was a poor performance. Why the captain is playing risky hook shot so early in an innings is unbelievable. He looked and saw the fielder there before the bowler ran up, and still played the shot.

Oh one more vent of the spleen! I hate listening to Nasser Hussain. He patronises anyone who plays against England. He makes me want to doze off! Very dull, and was a poor batsman! Give me Michael Atherton he’s completely impartial.

That’s why I said that’s not his game and way of playing.

He world class when he scores 150 of 90, but when he gets out playing the same style, he’s then an idiot. You get that with Buttler!
He's experienced enough to adapt to the match situation. He is talented as you say but at the time he should not have played that shot with who was to come if he got out. The score was still very much getable.

All World Cup at work I have been banging on about batting 1st is a big advantage. This tournament the side battling 1st has a 68.9 %win rate. When England put Australia in I instantly said we would lose. We have battled 1st 3 times and won all 3 compared to 1 win in 4 batting 2nd. It’s not rocket science.

I get what your saying, but when you saw the conditions overhead and the pitch this morning. It really looked bowler friendly conditions! We didn’t take advantage of that, but the Aussie bowlers did, albeit being helped by some incredibly poor batting!.

The Aussies have beat us the last 2 50 overs matches on our own turf, struggle to us going far in this competition, we have India and NZ next, we need a win and a wash out.

I don't honestly think we will win either of those games on current form.
I agree, all the other big teams have bowlers who can dismiss teams, we struggle to bowl teams out, even Afghanistan batted 50 overs against us, I know it was our batsmen today that failed I’ve thought it was the bowling unit that was our weak link.

This is a flawed Australian side (some really good players, no doubt but like India, their middle order is dodgy and they've failed to push on to big totals several times after great starts) but they were still way better than us today. We seem to have peaked two weeks before the tournament and are now deeply on the skids.

Pakistan vs. New Zealand is big tomorrow. If Pakistan win, then England are in big danger of failing to make the semis.

Moeen is a sad shade of the player he was a year ago and as said, we've lost when Plunkett hasn't been in the team. I don't trust Moeen with the bat any more while his bowling is ok - has he hit a permanent downturn in his career? Does Dawson offer more or just more of the same?

I'd send Vince on a one way trip to the Falkland Islands, on a paddle steamer. Farbrace thinks he is "one innings" away, but that has been the case for his entire career.

England really need to work on their body language and mindset. They are in a Bayliss funk when the team doesn't know how to hold a bat. The only comfort is they usually bounce back when they get a proper slagging off.

Apart from Ben Stokes. Been the ultimate committed player for the past 2 games. largely let down by the idiots around him. Smart and calm cricket from him.
