Cricket

Just like with football - England will be crap whilst out of touch, unimaginative and politically correct selectors pick the team!

Agree. We have to start looking at players who can't just play at home but can play in Australia, India and Sharjah.
We have to try Crane and Wood. Then maybe Jennings/ Hameed (if fit), maybe Livingstone.

We have a backbone. Root, Stokes, Bairstow. Malan. But as usual the bowling is the huge challenge
Definitely. We lack some gamers at the moment. I really like Moeen as a player, but he's disappeared on this tour. We need players who aren't afraid to give it back to the convicts and won't be intimidated by all their peacocking

Massively agree. Anderson, Broad et al are fantastic in England but unless we’re willing to accept that conditions are different in India, UAE and Australia, then England will continue to be pummelled in those places. We’ve got to take some brave and possibly unpopular decisions and play players who are more adaptable to those conditions.

The same can apply to Australia. Take Mitchell Johnson - a destroyer-in-chief Down Under in 2013-14 but his raw pace did nothing in 2013. They need to learn a few things to play to England conditions. They haven’t won a series here in years now so the same principle applies there too. If Khawaja, Handscomb and Bancroft toured England next summer, I think Broad would have a field day against them.

It makes me wonder whether a new method of selection is needed. The ODI side have been much more successful in choosing specialists and quick scorers in recent years. Maybe taking more gambles, choosing players based on individual skill sets and relegating a few players who aren’t adaptable may well be the method forward.

That's that then, cant see us regaining the Ashes for a LONG LONG time.

I know someones family who has tickets to the Boxing Day test. I would rather be in this country watching OUFC than watch the whitewash continue.

I’m not sure I agree. I can see us handily winning the Ashes in 2019 for the reasons I list above. The likes of Hazlewood, Starc, Smith, Warner et al have all toured England before and haven’t been able to win the Ashes. Their raw pace once the new ball has been seen off is redundant and their hard push drives and defensive shots lead to all sorts of nicks and caught behinds. Just watch the 10 wickets for their 60 all out in Trent Bridge. Clueless batting in English conditions.

That said, Cook and Anderson will almost certainly have departed from the scene by then so you’ll be looking at a very different team to be playing the Aussies by then.

Your so negative. I bet we beat them in England with a duke ball in the summer. Infact I will bet you we do.

This side needs a clear out, Bayliss has alluded to not doing it, but by god it needs it. Too mentally fragile away from home and a remarkable ability to keep playing the same shots and wondering why they get out. Talent is not an issue, but application is.

Now is the time to thank the likes of Cook, Anderson and Broad rebuild the team with a different mindset before the Aussies come back here. Root needs to remove the shackles of the previous regime and get players with more energy, mental strength and technique into the team. We don't need failures like Ballance in the squad again; it's not fair to the young talent we have.

I think that for Tests Bayliss's position should be looked at.

I REALLY hope that Root doesn't mean it when he says that Anderson, Broad, Cook could all be playing in a years time.

Bayliss and Root are both suggesting that things carry on as normal. Maybe they are both saying that, giving Broad/ Cook the chance to retire. Hopefully this is the case.

I suspect Lord Brockett won't entirely give them that chance. He can't be thrilled with how the current squad have pooped all over him and leaving as is won't be on his agenda. The culture in that team has to change as there is something wrong and there has been for a while.

And... Mitchell Starc is carrying an injury into the boxing day test. Quelle surprise

Mitchell Starc is out of the 4th test. Oh England, if only you'd batted with more discipline...

It seems that Bird is the word for them. Looks like Curran will be coming in for Overton unless they change their mind on Crane. He could stalk the Aussie batsmen quite a lot in the coming years.

Bird, Crane, stalk (stork). This should be on Twitter!...
