I don't think players play too much - I think players play far, far too little proper cricket.

Jacob Bethel being the classic example.....likely he'll end up having played just four first class innings and a grand total of 67 (red) balls in the entirety of 2025!

Yes, I know I'm a dinosaur and I know disco cricket is where the money is......but noone is ever going to convince me that England's batsmen are at peak levels of preparation for the Ashes when they've played so little (if any) competitive red ball cricket in the three months preceding it.
He was very much mismanaged this whole summer. Didn’t play any cricket of note.

Love watching sport on TV, especially cricket but only the test matches. Never been to a game though. I think it’s because of the fear of getting an abandoned game and I just don’t fancy taking pot luck.

Of all the years I've been watching Test Cricket live when I can, I've never had a complete washout. They do happen of course, but not that often. Worst I can remember was a game v India at The Oval, I was there for the first day, and we only saw play in the morning session, before the afternoon and evening sessions were washed out.

Get to one for the experience, a Test is a fantastic occasion. Either Lord's if you want the unique experience of that ground, or for something a bit less stuffy and rowdier, Edgbaston and a seat in The Hollies Stand.

I was in the Hollies Stand when Ricky Ponting was booed. It was very rowdy!

It looks as if Bashir, Pope and Crawley are playing for their places in the squad.

Lords can be rowdy too - I was there when Carey ran out Bairstow. Mind you there would probably have been a riot in The Hollies at Edgbaston!

I watched England vs West Indies in the western terrace at headingley, it was a party. But I’m wondering which is best the western terrace or hollies stand.

Very similar I would say but because the hollies has a roof then it’s naturally louder and all round better

I was at the 3rd day of the Old Trafford Test in 2005 - on again, off again all day and we only saw 14 overs total, 50 Aussie runs and no wickets. Was the most frustrating day at the cricket I've ever had.

Fortunately, I stayed in Manchester and played hooky from work on the Monday, and then won the lottery to get into the ground (about 3x as many people showed up as there were seats, and then had no plan to deal with them all, so they just randomly opened gates left and right to let people in - I was in the right part of the queue at the right time!). And that was the single greatest day at the cricket I ever had (even if McGrath and Lee did thwart us in the end). The noise when Simon Jones bowled Clarke with that delivery is a memory that will always stick. Bit like Alfie's goal at Wembley.

But concerned that stokes is the only one to take any real wickets

Couple of one sided games and a couple of tight ones. Weather may well play a part. Neither side good enough to throw a knockout punch, neither side bad enough to fold.

2-1 to someone (not sure who) if it’s wet
2-2 if the weather is decent

I do worry that over the last 10 years we have had to depend on Anderson and Broad so much because everyone else is made of glass.
I think we were very lucky in that they were not only so good for so long, but they also both remained pretty much injury free for large parts of their careers.

That's probably in no small part due to the fact they were both primarily red ball specialists, particularly in the latter parts of their careers.

They were not out and out speedsters either, fast bowlers but not ones who rely on pure speed, so less likely to pick up the type of injuries that Wood, Archer, Atkinson etc seem to.

Out of interest, does anyone follow county cricket here? I'm a Lancashire fan, having been exiled from Oxford in 2004. I don't know who I would support if I'd stayed. Middlesex? Surrey? Northants? I did see Oxfordshire play Cheshire at Alderly Edge a couple of years ago. Very niche cricket fandom! Think I was the only Oxford supporter there!

Coincidentally, Ally Cook started playing as a boy at our local Cricket Club and always comes back to the Club every year for a charity event.

I have always been a Lancashire fan since watching them in the one day matches on BBC and the John Player Sunday League on BBC2 on Sunday afternoons.

I remember there was a great rivalry between Lancashire and Worcestershire and Lancashire and Kent to be one-day kings. Back then we had the 40 over JPS trophy, 50 over Benson and Hedges which started in a 4 or 5 team group phase and then the 60 over Gillette Cup where the minor counties played in the first round. I used to be fascinated by the scores the main counties racked up when batting first and I would always read the papers to see if there was a major cup shock.

Kent supporter. It’s not much fun at the moment, unless you are a fan of gallows humour. Which I am. Marvellous! Go up to the St Lawrence ground around 5 or 6 times a year for a county championship match and also always make a point of getting a day at Lords and the Oval every summer, sometimes to see Kent lose, sometimes to watch whoever is playing and soak in the vibes.

Don't follow a County but will watch the odd game online in the background. Have watched a couple of Oxon matches though including in a 50 over Cup match against Kent (I think but could easily be wrong), albeit they were many moons ago. Generally just keep an eye on my old club's results.

Apparently all six were catches in the leg side. I suspect the Aussies will sell their wickets more dearly than that. But supposedly Archer did bowl well.

Sussex fan as lived there as a youngster.
Hove is a nice little ground

Ditto, as it was where I was born (although we had moved to Oxfordshire by the time I could remember anything!).
Just good to be back at the top table this season for what had seemed like an eternity - and stay there!

Yup - Leicestershire when they have deals on for work and time allows. Division 1 next season so there will likely be fewer deals.
