International News Covid-19 .....

Yeah that's right, waste c £200k asking people to pay more tax. Any other good ideas while you are at it?

Our local council have just spent £23k on two artistic pedestrian crossings.....

They invest lots of money in the "cultural quarter" where the Mayor`s daughter has several businesses...............

Yesterday's figures.....
11,252 people in Leicestershire have tested positive - up from 11,102 (increase 150).
6789 (increase of 92) were within the Leicester City Council area.
4463 (increase of 58) cases were reported in the County.
UHL reported 0 death's.

Today's figures
11,345 people in Leicestershire have tested positive - up from 11,252 (increase 93).
6830 (increase of 41) are within the Leicester City Council area.
4515 (increase of 52) cases were reported in the County.
UHL reported 0 death's hospital total stands at 446.

Inpatient numbers are increasing, but very slowly.
We have 4 in ITU.

And the pedestrianisation that cost £6.45 million and is already being replaced 12 years later..

So spending £200k from their reserves for long term gain could provide value for money.

Different sources of finance. There is a difference between capital and revenue and how you can spend it.

And if they let these areas become rundown they get criticised. Economic development is one of their responsibilities.

Keep it in the family.... only £150k (the business still went bust)......

"A councillor has said she would have had concerns about investing tax-payers’ money in the renovation of a building in Leicester’s Cultural Quarter had she known the mayor of Leicester’s daughter would be involved in the project.
Councillor Sue Waddington approved a £150,000 grant towards the cost of refurbishing Shahista House when she was assistant mayor for jobs and skills."

Back on Covid.................... cases rising everywhere.

Hands - Face -Space.

Away for the weekend, toodle pip xx

Broke the law........ went to stay over with the cousins "Up North".
Only 2 couples, both "clear" and we remained socially distanced and drank too much.
Alcohol kills Covid. :ROFLMAO:

11,510 people in Leicestershire have tested positive - up from 11,436 (increase 74).
6907 (increase of 38) were in the City Council area.
4603 (increase of 36) were in the County.

A different budget altogether.

What an absolute waste...

Lets not get wrapped up in ‘it’s a different budget”. You allocate money to one budget means another cause goes without.

No justification whatsoever to waste money on something like this, irrespective of the current Covid climate.

Why oh why do local councils and governments in general make such idiotic decisions?.

No mater who is in power, we see utter B*****s like this time after time after time.

Because such things improve an area which can reduce other revenue costs (cleaning/Litter collection etc) as people start to care for an area which helps reduce petty crime and if a shopping area can help boost footfall in normal circumstances. Spending on things like this have indirect benefits which is why Councils spend on such things. And down the line they may well have financial benefits to a Council as public art is an investment in the area.

And the budget matters if it is a capital budget rather than a revenue budget, as a capital budget can't be used for revenue expenditure.
