International News Covid-19 .....

Reading up on it is thankfully a myth.
I don’t want anything to prevent me going to the last game of the season

The worst thing at the moment is all the people who have undiagnosed serious illnesses because of the prime importance given to tackling covid.
Covid is spreading like wildfire at the moment but thankfully it is not life threatening like the early variants were.
The frustrations caused are substantial because of the disruptions to hospital and transport and of course supplies of products throughout the country.

That's other than for the 317 (up 125 on last week) who died within 28 days etc of it yesterday I take it.

Who died “with” or “from”.
Will we measure deaths in the pre-2020 method ever again ?

That is little more than basic maths.

The more folk that fall "within 28 days" of a positive test the bigger the pool of people that can die and be counted as such.

If folk stopped testing that number in 29 days would be a big fat zero. 🤷‍♀️

Footnote 1: The overwhelming majority of hospitalisations and deaths have co-morbidities.

Footnote 2: The number of registered deaths in 2022 is DOWN by 7.2% against the preceding 5 year average.

"In the week ending 25 March 2022 (Week 12), 10,745 deaths were registered in England and Wales; of these deaths, 780 mentioned "novel coronavirus (COVID-19)", accounting for 7.3% of all deaths."

probably a stupid question.... but, since free lft's have been withdrawn (in England) officially since apr 1 , unofficially they've not been sent out since at least ten days before.... how will those who compile the statistics actually know for sure whether it was or wasn't within 28 days of testing positive , if someone should pass away?

I'm sure you're well aware that hardly anyone dies 'from' rather than 'with'. Like AIDS.

It's an interesting question though. Brings to mind the 'since the Premier league began' era in football. Not a good thing.

If they die in hospital they will have been routinely tested.
If they die in the community its the whim of the GP/Person certifying.
Free LFT`s are still available for lots of folk.

but not us pensioners it seems

Cost of storing the unusable PPE the government bought from their mates (£8.7bn worth) is still costing taxpayers £249,000 a day.
The plan is apparently to burn it all.

Don't mention the tests they paid for and didn't use, please.
the LFT's have been given to Sebastian James ( Boots CEO & ex Bullingdon Club member), ... paid for by the tax payer , now James is knocking them out at a profit

Slightly incorrect.............. barring the storage costs the top line break down is more nuanced.

£2.6bn was defined as "unusable by the NHS" - quality/standards etc but could be used elsewhere. Of that....£670m was "unusable in any healthcare setting".

£750m of it has gone out of date - 2 years ago folk were screaming "why isn`t there more"...... this is the outcome.

And then we have depreciation in value - what the UK paid at the height of the pandemic vs what it is "worth" now...... that accounts for £4.7bn

In other news we are still contracted, and paying for, Mass Fatality Storage facilities - take a look back on this thread we signed up for a minimum 3 years "just in case".
