International News Covid-19 .....

Has anyone actually read any of the links that he has put up? They look really boring to me so I don’t bother, so I doubt you have to worry about him influencing anyone.

I’ve googled the provenance of the odd one or two and invariably they’re revealed to be crackpot conspiracy theory or borderline white suprematist stuff so never bothered to delve further. They’re anti-scientific in nature and put their desired point first and then present ‘evidence’ to support it through dubious sources or crackpot ‘experts’ on the fringes of academia. It’s the same tactic deployed by flat earthers, Holocaust deniers and creationists.

I’ll make use of the ignore button on Neville. He hasn’t posted anything on OUFC for ages so I don’t think I’m missing anything by omitting his teleological posts regarding COVID.

EDIT. I’ve just Googled the supposed expert in the Corbett Report video and despite her medical credentials, she’s the archetypal outlier academic. Politically she’s very right wing and chair of a fringe Eurosceptic Irish party and I think realises that she can muster an audience (albeit an odd one) through swimming against the tide of academic opinion by arguing for the opposite. That’s not science any more, that’s putting your politics in the way of it. She’s attended the anti-lockdown rallies, shared the same stage as Kate Shemirani (a noted conspiracy theorist) and addressed audiences of anti-5G, anti-vaxx etc types. She was asked to resign her position from UCD back in June due to her views.

She’s a crackpot and that video and her views can be rightly dismissed.

WHO Finally Admits COVID-19 PCR Test Has a ‘Problem’

The WHO’s new guidance, which includes lower PCR thresholds, almost guarantees COVID “case” numbers will automatically drop dramatically around the world.
In an “inauguration” of its own while Joe Biden was being sworn into office, the World Health Organization (WHO) initiated new rules regarding the PCR assays used for testing for COVID-19.
Even though they’ve been widely used across the U.S. and around the world to determine who has a positive case of COVID, PCR assays are not designed to be used as diagnostic tools, as they can’t distinguish between inactive viruses and “live” or reproductive ones.
Besides that, previously, the WHO had recommended 45 “amplification” cycles of the test to determine whether someone was positive for COVID or not.
The thing is, the more cycles that a test goes through, the more likely that a false positive will come up — anything over 30 cycles actually magnifies the samples so much that even insignificant sequences of viral DNA end up being magnified to the point that the test reads positive even if your viral load is extremely low or the virus is inactive and poses no threat to you or anyone else.
What that means in plain language is that the more cycles a test goes through, the more false positives that are reported.
Now, with the WHO’s lower PCR thresholds, it’s practically guaranteed that COVID “case” numbers will automatically drop dramatically around the world.
Here’s in-part what the WHO notice says:
Users of IVDs must read and follow the IFU carefully to determine if manual adjustment of the PCR positivity threshold is recommended by the manufacturer.
WHO guidance Diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2 states that careful interpretation of weak positive results is needed (1). The cycle threshold (Ct) needed to detect virus is inversely proportional to the patient’s viral load. Where test results do not correspond with the clinical presentation, a new specimen should be taken and retested using the same or different NAT technology.
WHO reminds IVD users that disease prevalence alters the predictive value of test results; as disease prevalence decreases, the risk of false positive increases (2). This means that the probability that a person who has a positive result (SARS-CoV-2 detected) is truly infected with SARS-CoV-2 decreases as prevalence decreases, irrespective of the claimed specificity.
Most PCR assays are indicated as an aid for diagnosis, therefore, health care providers must consider any result in combination with timing of sampling, specimen type, assay specifics, clinical observations, patient history, confirmed status of any contacts, and epidemiological information.

Neville. Baseless bullshit, and you swallow it. What's worse is that you regurgitate it and spew it out in this and god knows how many other fora. You have the right to free speech, but with rights come responsibilities. Be responsible, and offer balance, think for yourself and stop swallowing the manipulation. If you are vulnerable, there are organisations that can help. Talk to your GP, stay away from dodgy propoganda sites, go out and exercise, strangle moles!! (actually, don't do that) just occupy the real world. I'm sure you did once.

I agree with the use of the ignore button. If, Neville is struggling, for what ever reason, It's best not to engage anymore. Whereas TT Cassox Mr Billy Big Bollox, another resident mongrel, can just crawl back into his stinking hole of racism bigotry and anti intelligence. Freedom of speech innit!

While I understand your point, I would make it clear that I was not asking for Neville to be banned but for it to be pointed out to him that Covid-denying is not in anyone's interest during a pandemic. Whether one can attach the description 'immoral' to Covid-denying is a moot point, but I would suggest it's certainly not the right or decent thing to do. The demand for 'free speech' could be seen as an irresponsible cop out in this case.

I genuinely believe that if you outright ban opposing viewpoints, and create a community where everyone is only allowed to be on one side of a given debate, then that's a little sinister (unless, the issue in question is directly offensive or discriminatory on an individual level). It's only by having our theories and hypotheses challenged, and applying a bit of rigorous skepticism, that we come to understand the problem better. That's what science is.

The appropriate response is what GoFish has just done, and others before him. Point out why everything that Neville posts is naive bs; call him a moron for believing it if you like. Refute the points he's making on the basis of facts and data. Or, if you're getting bored of him, stick him on ignore.......

Now that all being said - there is an argument that Neville has crossed over the line and become a spammer. That he's no longer actually interested in debate or commentary, doesn't want to engage, and is just posting articles for the sole purpose of pissing people off. If the Mods think that's the case, then fair enough - kick him out.

I just ignore the post. But I find it interesting to know what stupid conspiracy crap is out there. You can't kill an enemy you can't see.

Bit off topic, does anyone remember a TiU poster called TruthTeller.
Can't remember what he used to post about, but was it similar?

TruthTeller was an out and out racist from memory.

I’m sure he was banned repeatedly and came back under another guise.

Yes, but the point is Neville never debates anything. He just posts cranky links off the internet. That's not debating. If Neville were to give us an insight into why he agrees with the contents of those links we could debate with him. As it is, all people can do is tell him he's a brainless moron etc. That's not much of a debate either.

He could be advised by the owner to debate rather than just send links. That would improve the forum wouldn't it, without banning anyone of adopting thought police tactics?

Over 100,000 deaths from COVID-19, now Boris wake the f**k up close the borders no one in no one out, anybody caught flouting the guidelines now and there are thousands doing it....increase the punishment even prison.
Today’s its 100,000 others, tomorrow be you who could be a statistic.

BBC into overdrive about 100k deaths.

Week ending January 8 2021: 17700 deaths were registered in England and Wales.
That is approximately 5500 more than the average for this week between 2015 and 2020.

And this is in the worst of the second wave the preceding weeks of excess deaths have been lower.

Not sure what your point is here? I imagine there's a lot less flu and fewer accidents at the moment, due to no mixing, so the Covid deaths are likely to account for more than the 5500 you quote.

Numbers.....
64407 people in Leicestershire have tested positive - up from 64,157 (increase 250).
29213 (increase of 96) were within the Leicester City Council area.
35194 (increase of 154) cases were reported in the County.

UHL reported 10 death's.
The death's occurred on the following days: 18th January (1), 19th January (2), 20th January (3) and 21st January (4).

Total UHL death's stands at 992

No particular point just an alternative view of stat`s.
Lots of people die every day, the excess is there no denying that, however the "OMG 100k" is more nuanced than presented.
There is less flu, hands ,face & space works for that as well and the uptake of the flu jab has increased greatly locally.
The more considered numbers in a few years will be interesting.

Tony, you make good points as always. For me there is always a line between the healthy debate of open minded opposing views of those who demonstrate a respect for others and their perspectives, and those who seek conflict and wish to create an adversarial supposed 'discussion'. Such people have no desire to discuss, they are thinly disguised gaslighters.
I will always call them out as, those who are their victims frequently cant. I refer to the vulnerable and dependant who are so often regarded as prey.

FT 14th of furkin' March 2020.

Don't give me your 'we did everything we could'.

Don't give me your 'with furkin' hindsight'.

If "they" had done nothing the death toll would be at least double or even triple.
What was done was done and didn`t contribute to the toll.
People quoting "eat out to help out" and Christmas were not instructions, they were options when there were few others.
What may have contributed was what was not done and, in the fullness of time, will be revealed.

What contributed massively was relying on people`s common sense and trusting us to do the right thing. The compliance stat`s will make interesting reading.
