Corbyn : Lipgate

I haven't bothered to look at the videos or read the reams of internet drivel elsewhere about this incident. Compared to everything else that is happening in the the world and indeed in Britain and even in Parliament it is a non-issue.

But whatever your feelings on that matter, Corbyn is a terrible Labour leader. You've got complete civil war in the Tory party, Brexit (which started out as a shambles and gone downhill rapidly from there), a nation teetering on the edge of commercial and financial disaster, the rise of the extreme right and 'austerity' punishing the poor for daring to be so - and what is the 'opposition' actually doing? As far as I can see, absolutely nothing constructive at all. Shame on them and shame on their leader.

But, but, but according to all the Corbynistas its the nasty ‘MSM’ that aren’t reporting what he’s doing that’s stopping him from winning.

It’s nothing to do with his lack of clarity on issues, evidently! The night before the referendum, Corbyn was at a Cuba solidarity event. A number of his MPs and Labour supporters were on the People’s March - where was Jezza? Abroad and tweeting about celebrating a 40th anniversary of standing up against General Pinochet. Spirited but not exactly priority, is it?

Get him out and get a moderate in.

Get him out and get a moderate in.

Not sure about a moderate (perhaps the country needs an actual alternative to the increasingly extreme right-leaning Tories) - wasn't the middle ground supposed to be where the LibDems stood... Oh, hold on...

I'd just settle for someone who had a clear view of how they wanted to improve society (in their eyes), someone who would offer conviction and polices rather than bluster and soundbites, someone who could understand that if they get into power it is incumbent upon them to care about every single person in the country not just the section that voted for them. At the moment, neither major party is anywhere near doing that.

What a great choice of leader we have. One who’s good at panto and the other one who lies through his teeth.
For gods sake man, just apologise for saying something wrong

The problem is that in the next few years their ineptitude (I agree) is going to have real world consequences for the rest of us.

Which for some might be a concern, but I think it could be quite cathartic. The system needs to change.

(He said it, and he should just apologise. I don't consider that mysogonistic anyway. If he'd said 'all women are stupid', that would be mysogonistic, to refer to May in such a way might be a bit rude, but that's all).

I was discussing this yesterday with a sensible woman that I respect and said much the same thing. She agreed with the sentiment, but did point out that 'stupid woman' was a phrase that had been used so many times that it did have the connotation that 'she is stupid because she is a woman'. I could see her point, really.

Loving this pantomime! I think many of us believed we'd got a moderate socialist PM in 1997 when Blair won a landslide. We hadn't. We'd got a nondescript hybrid politician who stood for very few values at all.

As a 'left-leaning' voter, I felt a glimmer of hope after May's disastrous decision to hold an election in 2016. Corbyn seemed to have support from the younger generation and offered an alternative to the Tory establishment.

Sadly, that's gone to pot. He proved ineffective over Brexit, appears far too extreme for many potential Labour voters and has made blunder after blunder culminating in Stupidwomangate. (He said it, and he should just apologise. I don't consider that mysogonistic anyway. If he'd said 'all women are stupid', that would be mysogonistic, to refer to May in such a way might be a bit rude, but that's all).

So here we are. Tory party falling apart over Brexit, Labour doing nothing to offer a moderate socialist alternative.
Spot on Pete.
I really can't see how Labour can win a GE with Corbyn at the helm, plus some of his front bench who are for many just as unpalatable! The problem is the majority of the membership are left wing and no moderate would stand against him for fear of losing. I can see a scenario soon where another centre party is formed and it will be made up of Labour, Tories and Lib Dems. When the country is divided as much as it is something is sure to happen.

Get him out and get a moderate in.

It's not 'being moderate' that's the point, it's belief in democracy and defending the rights and living standards of the (majority of) the people.

Labour moderates (Andy Burnham, Liz Kendall, Pixie who's married to Ed Balls etc) are indistinguishable from the tories and enact the same policies. Corbyn won the 2016 election (I know, I know) because he stated real socialist policies that gave a glimpse of hope to a lot of people who got none under the last 30 years of tory rule and demonstrated that austerity is not the only option.

The problem is that instead of trying to protect the people who voted for him (by campaigning to remain), he's trying to force a general election for (what will be perceived to be) purely factional reasons. Brexit's a win-win in his mind - it removes barriers to a number of things he wants to do and, because it will make people poorer they will, in their misery, become more disposed to support a future revolutionary-style corbinist government.

I respect Corbyn not least because he doesn’t get drawn into this kind of trivia, which reduces this ‘debate’ to it’s proper place around the relentless propaganda that passes for news. Just waiting for the next Daily Mail/Express/Sun exposure of his spying for the Russians in the 1950’s. He isn’t bothered, get over it.

I realised earlier that gaffe from Corbyn was a Brexiteers dream. Basically the Govt flooded the news waves with that stupid nonsense and the whole no confidence thing dies on it's ass, meaning Brexit is kicked into January.
