Other - Rest of the World Club World Cup 2025

This is such a non event hosted by a country who still value 5 or 6 other sports ahead of football. Pathetic line up of teams which doesn’t even include 3 or 4 of the current best teams in the world. Certainly won’t be watching this drivel dished out by Infantino and his sportswashing buddies.

I really hope those taking part get absolutely rinsed in their domestic leagues next season as players hold a bit back for themselves to play in a World Cup which sees USA host for a second time and Mexico got a third time since we last had it here. Like the last World Cup it will be another tournament I won’t be arsed to watch.

No broadcaster wanted anything to do with it, then on 4th December it is revealed that DAZN (who are owned by the Saudi's) have paid 1 billion dollars to show it.
As by magic, on 12th December, FIFA announce Saudi as the hosts of the 2034 World Cup.

Nothing dodgy about any of it though.

Add in the other greased wheel as to how Saudi Arabia was 'awarded' the 2024 FIFA World Cup.

The 2030 World Cup couldn't go to North America or Asia since the previous two iterations had been so you'd expect a European, South American, African or Australasian World Cup, right? A joint bid comes in from Spain, Portugal and Morocco (that's UEFA and CAF accounted for) and - lo and behold - since it's 100 years since the first WC, let's have some matches in South America (CONMEBOL) too for some stupid reason.

That leaves the 2034 World Cup only allowed to be hosted by an AFC nation (You could expect a bid from an OFC member but Australia knew better than to put one in despite doing an excellent job for the 2023 Women's World Cup).

Aside from the Club World Cup, FIFA have the greatest football product and it's totally unique. Every nation has a domestic cup and league, and there are continental competitions every season. However, the WC is the best football tournament going and they had the best, most exciting format for it with 32 teams made special by it only coming around every four years. FIFA continue to f**k it up with expanding it, giving it to awful countries to reward despots or environmentally destructive regimes and making shedloads in cash with it. They'll go with Wenger's 'suggestion' (ie, paid to say it from an experienced manager with credence in the sport) of making it every two years in my lifetime, I reckon.

There's nothing anyone can do about it nor has the guts or desire to. I want the English FA plus anyone they can get to tag along to up sticks and leave FIFA and start the whole thing again but they won't. No one will. FIFA needs to collapse and fall to pieces before we can have some sanity to the game again.

The saddest part is that I know I'll try to watch whatever tawdry, diluted form of WC that FIFA has because they still have the WC. More fool me, I guess. I'm complicit in it continuing to be a success.

You mean the award by "acclamation" (be seen to be applauding on a zoom meeting) wasn't entirely open and honest? ;-)

Bayern are currently ranked sixth in Opta's Power Rankings - but Auckland are down in 5,074th, over 2,500 places below English National League side York City.

So the equivalent of us playing Saxton Rovers I guess
No, that must be wrong in the lead up to the game it was claimed that the best 32 teams in the world were competing, Auckland would struggle in the national league.

I have to say, I was getting quite confused as to why everyone was saying that Auckland were part-timers.....because I thought they were an A-League team, and had won it the season prior. And I know that the A-League is fully professional because I've been to a game, heard @chuckbert talk about it on here and read plenty of rumours about us signing their players.

Just realized that the team I'm thinking of is Auckland FC.....and the team playing in the Club World Cup is Auckland City FC. Because Auckland FC play in the A-League (an Asian Football Confederation league), they are not currently eligible to enter the Oceania Champions League.

It's basically the equivalent of having Thame United represent the county in the Championship because the organizers deemed us ineligible, and they did win the Oxfordshire Senior Cup after all!

FIFA have done a lot of very, very corrupt things over the years......but I don't think they've ever pulled together a competition quite as noddy as this one.

To give Infantino his due, it takes Trumpian levels of self-aggrandizement and delusion to organize a global club competition, and say with a straight face that it includes the 'best of the best' when your convoluted qualification criteria mean that the champions of England, Spain and Italy are not competing, but the second best sides in Austria and the city of Auckland are........

Yeah, me too. In fact, I'll likely pay eye-watering prices to go and watch Uzbekistan play the Cape Verde Islands (or similar) in New Jersey next summer.
Because it's the World Cup, there'll only be twenty or so in an average lifetime, and it's too special to miss.....

The best thing about this Club World Cup is the fact that I can completely boycott a FIFA competition and not feel like I'm missing out on anything good!

Nobody’s watching anyway judging by the empty seats

Totally embarrassing

And apparently it doesn't matter - to the folks that run the stadiums anyways.

The US didn't bid to host this tournament - FIFA just told them they were doing it; but because it was last minute, and because it wasn't anything that anyone in the US had asked to host, FIFA have had to pay the stadium operators stonking amounts of rent to ensure that they don't make a loss even if noone turned up!

I'm actually a little disappointed that the crowds aren't even lower than they have been. There were a couple of good attendances yesterday.

top tier closed and the blue dots unsold.
