Championship Championship Transfers Summer 2025

Chelsea sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, 22 on a six year contract for a reported £30m fee with £20m paid upfront.

What’s he going to do when Chelsea don’t make the CL at the end of next season ? This is a lad who could have played in front of 60- 70,000 every other week had he held out for a bigger move but has settled for 40,000 instead. He’s been poorly advised in my opinion.

I find it very shortsighted of players when they join a club purely because they’re in the CL the following season. He signed a 6 year deal so shouldn’t he be looking a bit further ahead ? Liverpool I get, maybe City too, but every other PL club in next seasons CL is nowhere near being guaranteed of being in it the season after or the season after that etc. I mean, Chelsea and Newcastle snook in by the skin of their teeth on the last day this season, Arsenal nearly cocked it up and Tottenham, well, they’re just there to make the numbers up next season.

It’s a very odd approach from some players.

Maybe a bigger move wouldn't have been forthcoming. Probably a question of jam today, and however short term a decision it is (and Chelsea have every chance of doing a lot better than you give them credit for) I suspect the likely pay packet will ease any concerns for the next three to four years.

Who should he have signed for?
