Matches Championship tonight: 18th & 19th Feb 2025

Great result that.

People keep saying things like "That nine point gap to the relegation zone will disappear quickly if we don't get our act together"

Well, we've gotten 3 points in our last five, and played generally crap, and we're no closer to the bottom three than we were in mid-January!

The chances that at least three out of the bottom five get their act together and reach 50 points (or even close to it) is receding with every game.

The perfect result, and the only one that could’ve seen us remain nine clear of the drop zone. Suddenly we’ve gotten away with losing at the weekend.

Just goes to show that the bottom few sides are really going to struggle to make up much ground in the final 13 games. Based on the current points per game of the bottom three, none of them would currently get past 40.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if 45 does it this season.

Perfect result. Those teams at the bottom realistically need to pick up 18 points from the last 13 games to have a chance of surviving. That's double what we need. The way we're playing at the moment, 9 points seems a long way off but I have a feeling we'll surprise a couple of mid to higher table teams as we did against Blackburn. Our games against Hull and Cardiff may be important. I hope our final game at Swansea isn't.

Get to 45 and that should be more than enough. For the 2 of the 3 teams in the relegation places now they would have to get something like 4 wins 4 draws and 5 defeats from 13 games left to get to 45 points. 16 points from 13 games. It won’t happen with any of them.

Or put another way they each only lose 5 out of 13 games left. Bear in mind they have all lost over half their 33 games so far.

Also those 3 teams are the only teams who have got less points away from home than us. We still need to grab 7 points from somewhere but there are enough games to get them from.

Yep - I was one of those convinced it was going to need 50 points to be safe, but as you say the chances of that are definitely reducing.

Lets have a win on Saturday Oxford, stop relying on other teams being as bad as if not marginally worse than we have been of late
I think we are due a big result. We are also due a fantastic performance and also a penalty. Without getting ahead of ourselves it is important for next season that we lay more than a glove on one of the bigger teams this season. QPR were awful last season but absolutely rinsed Leeds 4-0 on a Friday night. Would be great if we could do something similar. Not just a win but a totally deserved win v Leeds, Sheffield United or Sunderland.
