General Celebrity-spotting

Seen a few people over the years.
Saw Alice Cooper in an airport lounge in Dallas with his daughter, I think...
Also saw Liza Minnelli in a wheelchair in an airport looking very frail.
Was behind Minnie Driver at Heathrow security and she is very small!
Talked to Jim Rosenthal on a jet bridge going to Chicago before a grand prix and he was very positive about the yellows.
Locally keep seeing Darragh Ennis (Irish guy from the Chase) in supermarkets. I saw him in Tesco Cowley and Sainsburys Heyford Hill over Christmas. He is a Liverpool fan but does come to watch the mighty yellows occasionally.
And the best was BDK in John Lewis after Christmas.
I'm pretty sure Darragh lives around Leys, he said on a podcast he drinks in the Blackbird and that he could hear goals go in when Oxford score.

He had a total nightmare chase the other day, 9 wrong answers!

Seen most of the local ones already mentioned around Oxford. Also a few others not mentioned like Frankie Vaughan, Tony McCoy, Mark Morrison, Russell Brand, Kerry Katona, Jo Joyner plus quite a few others.

My favourite one was Harry Redknapp, when he was West Ham manager. It was a night game at the Manor against Preston and I was running late. Think the game had just kicked off and when walking up the London Road walkway towards the turnstiles was Harry walking along side me. He started talking to me (I think it was some kind of moan about parking or something) when I asked what he was doing here he jokingly said he’s coming to scout Joey Beauchamp (Or Bowchamp) as he pronounced it. I was surprised he joined the queue to pay at the turnstile too. Some others noticed him and started to chat with him so i went in so I’m not sure wether he actually paid or stayed in the London Road end.

I’m presuming he must have been watching Jon Macken who was highly rated at the time.

I live in what used to be a working market town north of Oxford that has apparently now migrated to the Cotswolds.

My favourite spot was Patrick Stewart, struggling with a trolley outside Sainsbury's in the thick snow about a decade ago.

I instantly thought, but didn't have the guts to say out loud, "make it snow, number one!"

I'll get my coat.

overall I've always though both were impressive men who made the greatest band the world has ever seen.
They were both in Oasis too.

I’ve seen a few celebrities in the wild but sitting next to Bill Nighy in the National Gallery most reinforces the impression I want to create on here, so I’ll just go with that one.

Not football but served Graham Price as he’s local to me and a regular in the store I work in. Played for Wales and British/Irish lions I think it was.

Did a comic con once so supported someone from stranger things and bunch of other B & C listers like Justin Lee collins - really nice guy. Hung out with John Levene also - really nice guy and loved the fans.

Worked in John Lewis Bristol and saw a few people there Justin again and Alice Roberts. Served Joh Kay from BBC news wife. Lovely lady - spent £1k an AI vacuum cleaner.

Also saw Mark Williams snooker player a few times at Neville hall in Abergavenny his wife was sproged up at the time. 10 - 15 years later and seeing their kids on the tv at the master etc 😱

Played golf with my mate and his work colleague, Stuart, who also brought along his mate, Julian.
I Got chatting with Julian who said he worked at Sky. "Installer?" I asked, "Nah, im a presenter"..
Turned out to be joules Warren on sky sports. 🤦

Many years ago, I had the misfortune to sit next to Andy Gray (Sky) at a corporate dinner. Very unpleasant man. Couldn't stop talking about himself. Made numerous revolting comments about his then girlfriend and was aggressive and arrogant. He was the worst I ever met, by a country mile. Never met Keys, but did meet Geoff Shreeves a few times. Just as rude as Andy Gray who he kept sucking up to all the time. Through work, I've met lots of slebs over the years. The general rule is that the bigger the celebrity, the more pleasant they are. They know that being nice to people is the trade off for the money. The D listers often have the 'attitude'. The rude/difficult ones generally get their comeuppance, and their work dries up..

Elizabeth Taylor (and entourage!) coming out of a Bruce Oldfield shop in London.
Arsene Wenger (and Pat Rice) at The Lowry in Manchester.
Josh Murphy in Tescos in Abingdon.
John Francome and AP McCoy at driving range.
John Bishop eating breakfast at The Grove.
Teddy Sheringham and Lee Dixon also at The Grove - on different occasions.
Benny from Crossroads on the first tee at some golf club near Shrewsbury years ago.
Tendered for some work for Prue Leith (Bake off programme) and had to go to her flat in Notting Hill, bit surreal when we were both sat there and she asks if I’d like a piece of cake she’d baked just before I arrived!!!
Done work for Alan Clark, a famous old Tory politician from back in the day.
Gary Glitter in an Indian restaurant in Witney.
Peter Crouch playing in the group just ahead of us at The Belfry - and in the bar afterwards.

After 20 odd years in entertainment as a DJ, radio presenter, film extra etc, I have met a lot of celebrities.
Stand out moments, looking after Rick Astley for an afternoon while filming in Germany. Same event but different day, being granted an interview with Sam Fox at the start of her singing career (short lived career!) This was a tv recording for German tv's version of Top of the Pops. As I was the resident DJ in the club being used, I had an all areas pass and, being English, I was often in conversation with the acts waiting to go on.
On set filming with Richard E Grant - I was upgraded from a non-speaking extra to getting one line of dialogue. (Sadly, I don't think the film ever made it to cinema screens)
Also appeared in Morse and was directed by Lord Luvvy himself, Dicky Attenborough in a scene for Shadowlands.
And, a favourite of my time in Norway, getting shitfaced with Mr Nul Points himself, Jahn Teigen. Lovely bloke, had a fantastic girlfriend and was great fun. He had just returned from Eurovision and was a hero in Norway!

I worked with many others during the eighties right across Europe and Scandinavia, happy days!

Bumped into quite a few during the 90's working in the computer games industry. Picked up Charlie Brooker from the Wycombe train station. Lovely fella.

Bloody hell, you've completely blown out of the water my youngest walking smack into Mary Berry in Waitrose, Henley. ☹️

Jude Law, Paddy Considine Emily Watson outside our village Pub various days waiting for our local ferryman to transport them across to Osea Island (ten minutes away) from here, filming The Third Day

I saw Jeremy Charles at a night club back in the late seventies in Palma Nova

I work at Silverstone and so there's usually someone or other kicking around. Managed to 'meet' Tom cruise, Brad pitt and Keanu Reeves amongst others.
When they were filming the F1 movie, I asked Jerry Bruckheimer if i could read their garage meter...he understandibly looked a bit confused.

Like @Manorlounger Ive met countless celebs from the world of music and entertainment over many, many years through working as a DJ, promoter, music/entertainment journalist and photographer, film and TV extra. Far too many to list.

Heres few celebs Ive spotted etc outside of what has been a fun 45+ years ( in the main) 25+ of which were as self-employed. Tommy Cooper walking down George Street , disguised by wearing sunglasses, ( late60s),
When David Bowie was on his Ziggy tour he played a few nights at the Apollo/ New Theatre, ( Id previously seen him play Oxford town Hall a year or so before), he and his entourage were staying at The Randolph Hotel, where there were after parties held. I was aquainted with a lad who worked there, sneaked in to the afterparty on the first night and was quickly escorted off the premisis. The second after party I again snuck in, this time when the security were checking who should be there and who shouldnt, I was talking to Spiders From Mars Guitarist Mick Ronson ( about football) he sort of vouched for me, 'he's ok', I later got to meet David Jones (aka Bowie) and exchange a few brief words- asked hin how Bowie was pronounced, reply 'like the knife, man' .
On a family holiday in Guernsey in the early 70s I spotted Michael Caine , I got a light off him for me ciggy ( though I was at the time underage to be smoking- drinking too, neither of which was an issue on that holiday)
Down in Somerset pre lockdown I was with a friend in a Supermarket in Crewkerne, spotted Martin Clunes doing his weekly shop.
On one of the early national scooter rallies in the early 80s, ( Scarborough), Oxford Roadrunners were in a guest house next to a Guest house where Manchester Scorpions SC were staying, Pre Stone Roses Ian Brown and John Squire were amongst their number. Some of the Oxford Roadrunners went for a few beers with the Manchester lads, Ian Brown was really chatty and quite funny, John Squire was quiet and reserved.
During the 80s a few mates of mine ( in Oxford Roadrunners Scooter Club) rented a house out in Waterperry, near Wheatley, the house was next to where Rowan Atkinson lived at the time. Also at the time he was in a brief-ish relationship with actress Lesley Ash. Often saw Rowan Atkinson, he never spoke. Also saw Lesley Ash fairly often, held the door open for her coming out of a shop in Wheatley with a bag of shopping on one occasion, which she said thankyou for.

In the run in to Christmas 2024, in Heyford Hill Sainsburys, I spotted chaser/quizzer Darragh Innes ( off ITVs The Chase), aka The Menace, with his two kids in there ( he was giving them both a right bollocking for running about )

When doing more long-haul travel I used to bump into celebrities on flights fairly regularly.

Sat opposite Dominic Raab on a flight where we’d both attended the same convention (he had moved to a board role after politics).

Liz Hurley was a couple rows in front, still very attractive.

A random one was Denise Lewis who was sat next to me breastfeeding her new son/dau. The baby kicked off for most of the flight.

Rebekah Vardy behind Langdale Hall in Witney in the early 2000's

Couple more I forgot about.

Paul Merson on a train into London (Waterloo IIRC)
And Matt Le Tissier in a shopping centre in Southampton. Was in the same lift as him

Tom Kerridge - mind you it was his gaff.
Louis Theroux & family at West Bay
Robert Maxwell & Ghislaine (before any funny stuff..... who knew?)
Graham McPherson - TV Filming stuff.
Almost all the Time team cast - TV Filming stuff.
Michael Wood - TV filming stuff.
Stephen Graham - at the local, top bloke.
A fair few MP`s that have sat on on the DCMS Select Committee over 18 years or so.
Richard III (albeit at his funeral) posh invite that was.
Justin Welby, Duke & Duchess of Gloucester, Benedict Cumberbatch (see above).
A fair list of bands/musicians who played at Ox Poly as my Mum blagged many free tickets.
John Otway & Wild Willy Barrett, who have both been friends since Mayfly at Oxpens in 77/78 ish, most recently caught up in May 2024

There are a fair few more but it might get boring......... and even more eclectic! ;)
