Current Player Thread Cameron Brannagan

11 more matches and he moves up to 11th place in the club's all time appearances table (currently in 14th place), overtaking Billy Jeffrey, Tony Jones and Frank Ramshaw on the way. Barring any lengthy time on the sidelines, he should easily overtake Joey into the top 10 by the end of the season. Would need to play pretty much every game this season to overtake Graham Atkinson into 9th by then though (needs another 46).

Modern day club legend
 
CB did pretty well last two seasons, but (happy to be corrected) I can't remember him 'running ' a game in the Championship. In L1, he's a standout. His passing range easily compensates for his (slight) lack of pace. McDonnell is actually a brilliant foil for him- an energetic ball winner who does all the boring stuff. If BdK stops sulking, and manages to get match fit, we'd have the best midfield in L1.

I feel Cam would have controlled more games in the Championship, particularly in his first season, if he wasn't paired with the loose cannon Vaulks so often.

Vaulks was so bad at times that Cam had to cover two positions frequently.

If he stays another 2 to 4 years, it is quite possible that he could catch Joey (6th Oxford goalscorer with 77 goals)

Haven't updated the Stevenage game yet cos I'm still waiting to find out the attendance
 
I can recall Cam having a penalty saved in a home match against Wycombe Wanderers in 2022-23 but can’t remember the other miss?

 
Sheffield Wednesday fans are bemoaning that their improved team still does not have an ‘animal’ in midfield which you probably need in L1.

McDonnell may be ours.He is certainly combative and likes to scrap and get stuck in.

I may be in a minority, but I’m not big on picking apart clubs because of attendances. They are in an area full of fans of the north London clubs and have always struggled - a better reflection is how competitive and well run they are, staying in contention when attendances are that low.

I recall our first trip to Stevenage (Borough) in the Conference - when the half time scores were being read out there were significant cheers for/against Arsenal/Spurs from the home fans.

It was comfortably the most noise they made all day.

I certainly don't expect him to score 14 this season, but 10 should be a realistic target for him in league one...

To be fair to them (actually never mind) I can imagine that there are a fair few that saw a part time second team turn into something more significant.

There was a similar thing with Burton near where I grew up - it's really Derby country and a decent chunk of the crowd there were always Derby fans looking for something to do when Derby weren't playing at home. Then eventually your hobby team works its way up into the championship and how are you supposed to think about things then?

Couldn't face spending time with the family?
Didn't want to sit in the pub?

Nah, never understood this. If your team isn't playing or you can't go - take the rest week.

And in fairness, I've always had the impression the majority of Stevenage or Burton fans do actually support them in the same way that there are some nerds who support Billericay or Boreham Wood.

I can at least respect that.

But two club w*nkers? Never.

You can only play what’s in front of you,, Cam could have jumped ship a while ago, and let’s face would look better in a team that weren’t at the ar5e end of the championship. Swings and roundabouts, I’m just glad he’s still here as this season would be a hell of a lot worse without him.

Absolutely, wish we owned a ground, and don't owe £50 million ,still in the same league and probably will be at the end of the season
