Other European Bulgaria v England

Clubs refusing to play on the Champions' League might get their attention, never happen of course, money always trumps morals.
Yup. When you devalue their tournament, only then will they care. The fact UEFA won't comment tonight speaks of spinning the situation.

What's the point of any comment on this thread? It's not a 'come up with ideas to help eradicate racism in football' thread. It's a general discussion about the racist element within this game and I hope England fans give them some this evening. Sorry if my opinion upsets you.

So are you saying you are happy to support hooliganism?

So there were continued monkey chants in the second half.
It is a shame that the game wasnt abandoned.

We should have walked off. That would have sent a massive global message. Now all that will happen, is that UEFA will fine them about £100k max. Incidentally, were those racist morons thrown out ? or did they go by they own accord ? as I didn’t see any security or police escorting them out. I suspect the latter and they must be so proud having had their pathetic moment of shameful and disgusting behaviour screened on TV around Europe. Filth the lot of them. Safe home to all the England ??????? Fans and resist any provocation. as we will most probably be fined £1m for throwing a few plastic bar chairs and banned for 3 years. For F@ck sake UEFA take proper action against these backward Football Associations and get off the pot and grow a pair.

I'm glad the FA chairman in his interview pointed out that we have our own issues on this score quite prominently.

Got to agree with Ian Wright, the FA chairman sounded weak when interviewed about it, even said it could have sounded like monkey chants, where was he sitting, outside!
Great to see so many England fans there.

I think all the talk of England walking off was just hype it happened in the second half why didn’t we leave them in interviews I’ve seen they said they would of walked off in second half if it carried on but it did carry on and we didn’t walk off Bulgaria should be ashamed as a country of idiots like these and there manager should be sacked for talking bolloxs saying it didn’t happen

Just read what he said on the BBC website. It's no wonder the Bulgarian team are so poor when the bloke managing them is deaf and blind.

Exactly the sort of attitude that should be punished - if they won't even admit they've got a problem, what chance them actually doing anything meaningful to sort it out?

Bulgaria v England racism: Bulgarian prime minister calls for football chief to resign https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50054475

I may be missing something, but despite the headline, the text implies that their PM is highlighting the results as the reason to sack the head of the Bulgarian FA and not the racism.

Bit of a cheek Johnson complaining about racism considering his past comments.

Yes - not 100% clear is it - bit of a mixed bag.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Borissov called his nation "one of the most tolerant countries in the world" but said it is "unacceptable" people there connect with racism and xenophobia.

"I call on Borislav Mihaylov to immediately resign as president of the Bulgarian Football Union," he said.

"After yesterday's shameful loss of the Bulgarian National Team and given the bad results of our football, I ordered to end any relationship with BFU, including financial, until the withdrawal of Borislav Mihaylov from the post."

In terms of sanctions - there is a suggestion that Bulgaria should be kicked out of the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign. I don't think UEFA have the b*lls to do that but even if they did, Bulgaria can't qualify from the group and (if I've understood the complicated qualification rules correctly), they are unlikely to make the play-off stage because Norway finished above them in the Nations League and are only 4th in their Euro qualifying group - so apart from symbolism, would Bulgaria's expulsion really make them suffer? Best we can probably hope for though.

Thought they could still qualify through the same route as Scotland, a play off because of the nations cup thing. Could be wrong though as UEFA have made it very complicated now.

UEFA will make the occasional show about racism but then do nothing about it, UEFA is predominantly made up of countries where this sort of thing is still acceptable and where they can’t understand the fuss that the few western, diverse countries make over it.

Scotland won their Nations League group whereas Bulgaria finished behind Norway and it's the highest placed non-qualifier from each group that goes into the play-offs (I think!). Norway currently only 4th in their Euro group.

Maybe UEFA will jump on the political interference from their PM and punish them strongly for that, then they'll be able to carry on pussy footing around the racism.
