National News The Brexit Thread 🇬🇧🇪🇺

He did a rally the other day saying the usual "the Election was stolen" and praising the Republican Party for making voting harder for opponents in Republican states/Conspiracy nutters who are standing against his opponents in GOP etc.
Whenever I need a COVID related smile I watch the clip of him discussing the benefits of bleach. Surely a contender for one of the most jaw-dropping pieces of stupidity ever delivered by a leader of any country.

Touring companies in particular are about to be smashed on all this. The two powerhouses in touring logistics for the Euro market are the UK and Germany, and Germany is now getting much more of the business that we used to get as their permits and paperwork are good across 95% of the places that an act will go when they tour Europe, and will remain so moving forward. Nearly every country they will perform in is in the EU and the one or two that aren’t (Switzerland and Norway usually) have LONG since established deals with every country in the world. Because we don’t have any deals what so ever in place beyond the end of the year and there are zero indications of what the outcome will be, people are simply hiring the German companies as they know they can pass cleanly and easily through all the territories, as their country of origin is and will remain an EU state. The tour buses, the arctic lorries, the riggers, the drivers, the caterers - your average arena tour has well over 100 crew members and will include anywhere from 10-20 buses and trucks in total. I was actually on a tour by an American band last year that contained 21 trucks and nearly 180 crew staff, because the production was wild. And everybody involved in that was very openly and honestly saying “This is the last time we’ll be using these guys, we’ll be going with the Germans moving forward”. So the UK can kiss goodbye to an absolute fortune in revenues. UK production riggers are actually starting to move to Germany en masse as there’s enough work already moving over there to support them, while it’s already starting to shrink here. Next year we are looking at a huge reduction in business being given to UK based touring companies as the problems are going to be both costly and potentially hugely delayed. A touring production cannot afford uncertainty or delays in any way, so people would rather have a company that they know can effortlessly fulfil the vast majority of a tour route, rather than one that potentially can’t get off the island on time, and which needs half a dozen trade deals because even if it gets into an EU state it then needs to pass into Norway, and Switzerland, and Ukraine, and so on. UK companies have no deals in place that they can point to and therefore price to - German ones are totally sorted bar the UK. And the European market as a whole is worth more collectively than the UK one is, so the Germans are winning out. Hands down.

Most major agencies and promoters operating in the UK are already going to be using almost exclusively German riggers and buses (they used some previously, obviously, but it is going to be significantly more) because they can move freely through borders. Less border issues and more clarity on things like taxable fees relating to performance revenues and royalties, vehicle and equipment taxation, health and safety insurance for people who spend all day and night lugging around and hoisting up gear that if it fell on you would kill you and so forth. It’s just easier to get EU companies and citizens to handle that so they can move along for weeks at a time without any snags. A lot of British crew workers moved to the continent in the last couple of years to take jobs at these continental firms and get EU citizenship to safeguard their jobs.

“He noted that the majority of European tours by pop and rock bands originate in the UK - meaning they employ stage crew, drivers, caterers, sound engineers, lighting technicians and backing musicians to work across the 27 EU member states.

"American acts when they come over, the vast majority of the time, take on British staff and use British equipment 85 to 90% of the time," he told MPs. "They will start to move to Schiphol, to Frankfurt, to warehouses in the middle of Germany, and take on the gear there, and all of that will be lost.”

Project Fear, Captain Hindsight - take your pick.

"Ah yes, well lorem ipsum it's only pop music as Tacitus would have said. Vaccine burble burble, injections you know, cripes. Let's get the decimation of one of our only world leading industries done! Cruentus infernus, and I've got messy man of the people hair - look... a squirrel."

He has - obviously it's a buggers muddle and he is rightly concerned about the situation in Northern Ireland.

But I am a bit confused here. The UK Government signed up to the agreement *despite* being repeatedly warned of these specific consequences. Over and over again. At the time they signed. What magic were they expecting to happen that would make this problem just go away? From what ex-Government sources are saying, they were desperate to sign the agreement just to 'get Brexit done' and fearful of the consequences if they didn't and this is one of the results of that.
Is this the government that features a minister that had to be told in a tv interview what exactly had been signed up to and had to admit he had no idea of an issue, despite it being in his area of responsibility?

It was pointed out in advance, and specific assurances were given that it would be included, and then it wasn't.

The Bojo "GETBREXITDONE" Government not honoring their assurances and commitments....?

I'm shocked!

SHOCKED, I tell you!!

Welcome to the sunlit uplands folks.

I can't think why nobody is on here celebrating this momentous trade deal[emoji848]

And that's before we consider the negative impact on the now extremely precarious NIP.

Of course we don`t already import beef, lamb & veal from Australia? Oh sorry......we already do.

"The UK imported 560 tonnes of beef and veal worth £4.1m from Australia last year, as well as 8,500 tones of lamb and mutton worth £45.8m, according to HMRC figures. In 2019, beef and veal imports totalled 1,766 tonnes worth £12.9m."

Simple fix.......... know where your food comes from and don`t buy it. :)

So basically you're OK unless you're poor and have to buy the cheapest cr@p available.

So you agree it's a dreadful deal (worth 0.02% of our GDP by the way) then...good to know.

Such a pity that Boris thinks this is an example of Global Britain at it's best. He think we'll sell.loads of British made cars to the Aussies. So we're proposing to export UK made Nissans to them with Japan virtually on their doorstep......

God help us[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Not true at all just choose better and don`t fall for the marketing schpiel or 3 for 2 when 2 end up in the bin!

Food waste is my real pet peeve.
"UK households still waste 4.5m tonnes of food a year that could have been eaten, worth £14bn. This amounts to £700 per year for an average family with children."

As is the seeming inability to cook from scratch!
"The British now eat more "ready meals" than the rest of Europe combined and it is no exaggeration to say that cooking is becoming a forgotten skill for most people under the age of 30".

And of course in your world it's the poor who waste food not the rich.

Which will now include hormone-fed beef.

The government is happy that cheap ready meals are so widely available. Without them the poor sods working in to gig economy wouldn't able to hold down their 50 hour plus a week jobs.

Aldi and Lidl meat is pretty cheap compared to Tesco, Sainsbury's etc and I believe is UK meat, especially the chicken.

I'm not sure if anywhere does "cheapest" crap meat?
Not yet they don't. (the point of this discussion if you haven't been following the postings above)

Well we got sausages, chicken breast, ham,and turkey mince from Lidl, all are British.

All for just under £10 and will do 4/5 meals.
