National News The Brexit Thread 🇬🇧🇪🇺

It's a nice principal EY, but people won't stop buying cheap s**t and I agree totally with the thought of buying local, seasonal products, but that not's going to happen either. So instead of shipping from our near neighbours in the same volumes (and lower carbon footprint), we are going to be shipping produce half-way around the world. This seems to be particularly apply to wine, where the Aussies are hoping to fill the trade gap caused by Chinese tariffs.

You can't have it both ways.

I don`t want it both ways, that is big stuff for other people. :)

If folk keep buying cheap tat wrapped in plastic then somebody else will suffer....... either those sub-Saharan workers in Spain or an indigenous tribe losing their lump of rain forest to a soy ar avocado plantation!

I do my bit which is all I can control...

Is this another attempt to distract from the plain fact that the much trumpeted Aussie trade deal is actually pretty crap and certainly not a patch on stuff we can get from Europe anyway?

Yet another example of Tory turd-rolling

Never mind, I'm sure a good trade deal will be along....any.....minute......now......

tick-tock ;)

Nope, we can do deals with other countries that suit both sides.... think that is how deals work.

I`m not in the least bit interested in purchasing Australian meat or wine "because it is cheap"... I like to know where my food comes from.

Two notable exceptions being our favourite curry house and Turkish place........... I doubt they know exactly where their products come from!

And still be worse than we could've done as part of the EU....but hey that don't matter so long as it's Liz (Bodicea) Truss negotiating it. Be on your mettle Cheesemakers and Pork product purveyors of England....Lady Truss is about to take you to the sunlit uplands........

.......that is unless of course, all the denizens of prospective trading partners think the way @Essexyellows does and want all their produce nice and local....then nobody will buy it anyway.....what a farce :ROFLMAO:

Why is that? You want to buy cheap crap you carry on. That is what it boils down too.

Whether that cheap stuff is made in China, France, Australia is almost a moot point.

The power to change that is the £££`s in your pocket.

Meanwhile................. Sausage Wars are on the horizon...

No I don`t buy those either, after too many years in the meat trade I make my own. ;)

What brand of sausage stuffer do you use ?
What type of skins ?

Natural skins.....sheep for a thin sausage and hog for a larger one.
The "stuffer" is just a "Victorian" hand operated machine "liberated" from a bankrupt employer in lieu of money owed.
10lb batches which is around 80 large or 160 small sausages.

Wash your mouth out!

Don't let Liz or Tory Central office hear you talk like that!!

Our entire future trading arrangements with every other country on the planet is based upon us buying and consuming copious amounts of "cheap crap" as you put it in exchange for our highly skilled, high tech, highly specialist whatevrethefuckitiswemake's and services.

You are very much going against the "Global Britain" mantra if you are not going to stuff your gob and your cupboards/pockets/rooms/garden with your fair share of cheap crap, to keep the deals sweet. Liz will have you over her knee if you carry on with that silly talk!

Ol' Sleepy Joe is in town. Watch how quickly the current NI impasse is resolved as UK is brought to heel. Now, if Don had hadn't been robbed of the election...

He's been warning the EU as well.
He has - obviously it's a buggers muddle and he is rightly concerned about the situation in Northern Ireland.

But I am a bit confused here. The UK Government signed up to the agreement *despite* being repeatedly warned of these specific consequences. Over and over again. At the time they signed. What magic were they expecting to happen that would make this problem just go away? From what ex-Government sources are saying, they were desperate to sign the agreement just to 'get Brexit done' and fearful of the consequences if they didn't and this is one of the results of that.

And knowing full well that this PM and Government's style is to renege on any deal, agreement, law or rules as they see fit and smooth over the consequences with some populist claptrap to keep the voters sweet, is anyone really that surprised we are where we are?

The difference is that this time, the consequences are far further reaching and deadly serious and they cannot control the narrative in quite the same way they do domestically.

So, have Bojo and his pals finally come up against an issue that they really will have to be straight, honest, open and transparent over?

Only time will tell....tick-tock ;)

Don't disagree with that at all. Theresa May called this one right but Johnson & co knew best of course until it goes wrong.

Biden will be concerned that the Loyalists will properly kick off again and I'm sure Johnson will keep mentioning this to put pressure on the EU.

I do miss the comedy value of Don. It was like watching a US Comic Show and certainly gave us some laughs.

Not convinced that 'comedy value' (not to mention bigotry, sexism and stupidity) is what we need from a US president. I do not miss him at all - if I never hear another word from the buffoon I will be happy.

You'll hear from Teflon Don again for sure.

Most likely when he has to take the stand in a court of law.

Or the very right wing/conspiracy nutters getting control of the Republican Party especially when they are doing everything they can to undermine democracy by stopping people who don't vote for them to vote.

He did a rally the other day saying the usual "the Election was stolen" and praising the Republican Party for making voting harder for opponents in Republican states/Conspiracy nutters who are standing against his opponents in GOP etc.
