National News The Brexit Thread 🇬🇧🇪🇺

Were the quotes taken out of context then? Would you care to try and justify or qualify the statements he made on his behalf? (especially as he seems unwilling to...even when asked to by Newsnight yesterday).

Now it is fair to say that attitudes in society towards race, sexuality and (to a certain extent) class, equality etc etc have changed somewhat over time. Attitudes such as his to race were always abhorrent to many as far back as the rise of such thinking first time around... and were thankfully largely becoming extinct in the 1970's and (thankfully) are now confined to the real nasty pieces of s**t who have absolutely no place in a decent society, let alone anywhere near government.

So these views, against that backdrop...knowing full well just how abhorrent and unacceptable they were just 6 years ago when he made them is inexcusable.

And yet here you are trying to excuse them and play them down..... "it was selective quoting m'lud"...was it B*****s!! .. . those were the actual words that came out of his actual brain and onto his actual social media account for all the world to see and they are there in perpetuity for all to wonder at. If a bright young thing like him was not fully aware of the consequences of his actions, then he should not be allowed technology without supervision ever again....and another reason why he should be nowhere near government.

I bet a pound to a pile of poo that your views haven't changed that radically on anything much over that same period of time have they....so what makes you think his have?

CUMBO's stated aim is disruption of the apparatus of state to re-engineer it to do their bidding and they could not give a flying f**k who they employ to do that disruptive thinking or who they hurt in the dismantling process. And it all gets lapped up by the "I'm alright Jacks" who've put them there....until of course they find out that they really are "not as alright as they'd hoped, Jacks". At which point the grown ups will have to come in and clear up the mess again ;)

You may notice that most news outlets are saying "alleged" comments..... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-51538493

Reality check: Anyone could sign up to a blog/forum/social media etc etc etc... with a nom de plume or even (heaven forbid) a completely fictitious name!

That aside what the person/persona actually wrote was in the form of a discussion....

"One way to get around the problems of unplanned pregnancies creating a permanent underclass would be to legally enforce universal uptake of long-term contraception at the onset of puberty."

And....

"There are excellent reasons to think the very real racial differences in intelligence are significantly - even mostly - genetic in origin, though the degree is of course a very serious subject of scholarly debate"

Discussing subjects that are difficult shouldn`t mean they aren`t discussed.

The issue is that people take a point for discussion, flag it with a "-ist" label, and link it to online stuff to make it a appear a whole let worse than it was.

I am pretty flabbergasted that you are seeking to defend this odious little man EY. He himself hasn't denied he said these things has he? He hasn't claimed that someone pretending to be him has set up a social media profile six years ago? It wasn't a discussion about the 'underclass', he suggested 'one way...' etc. Of course difficult subjects should be discussed, and are (ref Baddiel's programme last night about Holocaust denial) but claiming that 'racial differences in intelligence' being 'genetic in origin' is a 'serious subject of scholarly debate' is simply untrue - all of the scientists/experts I have heard discussing (sensibly, on air, in public) that assertion have said that is not a point of debate.
Glad he has resigned - good riddance to bad rubbish.

And still...he's not denied any of it, nor has he taken out any injunctions or served any writs on those publications who have chosen not to use the magical word "allegedly". Maybe the phone lines are busy at Lawyers4U

I will wait to see the retractions, apologies and law suits come flooding in, once this fine upstanding superforecaster is fully exhonerated........tic-toc....

Exactly!

What about his quotes on experimentation with the use of a narcolepsy drug being "probably worth a dead kid once a year"? That acceptable to you?...Is a mass clinical trial on UK children OK on those terms?

In your world view EY, it would seem it is OK to say something blatantly racist, divisive, offensive and without the basis of any evidence or scientific research to back it up, if it sparks off a jolly good debate on the subject . . . is that what you are saying?

Do you not think you should do your research, double check your findings, have them peer reviewed and THEN present them to the world backed up by your sound, corroborated evidence....Or do you prefer the advancement of the human race to be based on debate that starts with what ever any individual can make come out of their mouth with no check as to whether it is complete fantasy, lies or nonsense. You see, things might stop being racist, divisive or offensive IF they have evidence to back them up....because then they become irrefutable, no matter how unpalatable they may seem to some.

Depends which side of the post truth world you choose to support, I guess and which one fits your world view best too.

In any case, I would suggest it is a bit naive to believes that just because he isn't in the direct employ of No10 any more, that he doesn't still have Doms ear and is still part of his inner sanctum....he's just out of the limelight for now....working in the shadows!

“...legally enforce universal uptake of long-term contraception at the onset of puberty.”

Any human being who can read these words and not be mortified is not a human being at all. This is straight out of the Nazi handbook. It quite literally means “We will force people of a certain class to have their reproductive capabilities ceased while they’re children”. What the hell is left to discuss?

Jesus Christ.

Or it is part of a broader discussion that the planet can not sustain the expansion in population?
Yes taken in the context you have given it it`s heading along a bad road.

What's your solution to the human population problem?

What's your solution to the human population problem?

Contraception. Lets start with the Catholic Church saying it`s OK......

Failing that nature will sort it out with disease, famine or similar.... I would rather a few folk put a cover on it.

Cummings' real aim revealed .....

Or a reminder that we also have leverage in negotiations? The EU have already got a few holes in the dyke to plug without one of the remaining nett contributors missing out on £20bn in trade.

That graph just goes to show what a shockingly poor state our manufacturing sector is in.

Depends which sector you are looking at. Bit of local trumpet blowing!

Think the days of heavy industry are long gone.

Well, the UK GDP comparison from 2018 to 2019 is higher than the Eurozone, even after being flat for 3 months:

The EU countries are 'fighting like ferrets in a bag' over money

Something I was told would never happen as there was plenty of money to go around! And talk of allowing North Macedonia and Albania to join the EU will only it makes worse.

Fun times ahead eh?
Who told you that?
There was always going to be huge problems in the EU financially with the UK leaving.

More than a couple of people on here. Won't name names as some may see it as trolling, but I was told quite firmly that the EU didn't need UKs money to survive, etc or that France and Germany would make the difference up. Even when pointed to the fact they've been teetering on a recession for a while.

I thought it was quite obvious belts would have to tightened, regardless of the UKs solidarity payments, etc.

Corbyns Shadow cabinet member Dianne Abott was mocked for her mathamatical errors, conversely, Bojo & Co are not afforded the same consideration by the red top press or TV political commentators, hmmmm?
