National News Boris Johnson - Ousted Former PM

Incredibly, some people still don’t see it.

Then again, a lot probably do, but are willing to take the todger up the back passage purely because it’s empowered their bitter views. I’ve never met a jolly staunch Brexiteer. Only angry / sneery ones with chips on their shoulders. You won’t find a firm supporter of it who will indulge in calm and rational conversation or display a healthy social temperament - you’ll only find them to be angry and more focused on trying to distress others than speak positively about what changes will benefit us all. The entire thing is built on spite and resentment.

Heads up - there’s about to be a lot of P**s all over the place, and it’s going to be boiling hot.
Sounds like the far left on here.

Doris the blonde bullsh1tter strikes again!

Worse PM ever.

Depends how you define a test as "done" and where the 24 hours is measured.

So Person books test, turns up next day and gets tested- within 24 hours.

Full Fact are comparing the other end, delivery of results, to what he said.

Said Person could wait another 24 hours for the result or longer............ logistics of getting the correctly labelled, adequate quality sample from the site, to the lab, processed, checked, analysed, result matched to sample then returned to patient. Everyone of those steps is a "failure point".

As it is part of the day job the reality of turnaround is interesting to watch when you know what it takes to do it.

You're in denial.

You're in denial.
Imagine being so invested in a political party that you have to defend an over-privileged serial liar every time he tells a new lie.

Have some dignity.

My "day job" is processing lab data from tests.
So, I ask again, when is a test "done"?

There are two perspectives, clinical and political. Clinical answers below.

Is it when it is taken from the patient? No. (Political yes....the test was able to be done in 24 hours)
Is it while it is travelling through the wonderously complex system from patient to lab? No.
Is it when it enters the lab and is checked and scanned? No.
Is it when it is spun down or decanted for processing? No
Is it when the machine spews out the result? No.
Is it when, where necessary, a BMS has looked at the result and requested further testing? No.
Is it when the results are entered onto the local laboratory information management system? No.
Is it when the data enters the data warehouse on a further journey? No.
Is it when the result is accessible to a clinician? Maybe.
Is it when the result is delivered to the patient in a way they understand? Yes. (Political - "well they are delivering 90% in 48 hours").

That is the reality and you know that politicians will select the bits that suit the message.
There is a subtle and fine difference between a misleading statement that suits the political situation and a lie.............

Didn't the original tweet on this mention the government were making claims on the processing time, so I'd suggest halfway down your list (when machine spews out the initial result)

Same again really, when does the clock start and stop?
To me (clinically) it is when the result is delivered to the patient either directly in the case of a swab result or by the clinician.
That happening in a "rolling" 24 hour time slot is, at best, very unlikely.

The result out of the machine makes little sense to anyone except tech nerds as it is just a number either side of a zero point/baseline.
How far the result sways into negative or positive is what defines the result.
That then has to be translated into the patient system to make sense to anyone.

cutting his nose off to spite his (piggy) face? ...

If we sign up we have no input nor can we negotiate or chose a better option if it is developed elsewhere first................. like in Oxford.
Easy headline unless you look at the detail based on our "unique" position in relation to the EU.

Is that actually true though? Would the EU stop us choosing a better option, and if so how? (Please provide a link).

Yes it is true.
"The Commission has responded positively to our requests for clarifications but has confirmed that it is not possible for the UK to pursue parallel negotiations with potential vaccine suppliers, meaning the UK would be required to stop its negotiations with manufacturers with which the EU launched negotiations. The Commission has also confirmed that it is not possible for the UK to have a role in the governance shaping decisions on which manufacturers to negotiate with, or the price, volume and delivery schedule negotiated.
