National News Boris Johnson - Ousted Former PM

Mick Lynch on question time tonight - from Stratford Upon Avon. Prime Tory "im alright jack" territory. He's going to destroy a whole town next.

What about the Prime Minister, out of interest?

What about him ?…. I’m not a fan of him or his government.
So you didn't find anything he said unpalatable. Sounds like you agree with him then.

Do I agree with a picket line designed to intimidate workers who just want to earn an honest days pay to put food on the table during this cost of living crisis we are hearing so much about? Nah, not really.

It cost each household £600 to prop up the network during Covid to make sure they still had a job. Very short memories.

I said imo the guy comes across as bolshie and cantankerous. Sorry if it hurt your feelings. God forbid anyone who says anything critical about anyone “not a Tory”. It really is possible to do both, you should try it, although I know you do struggle.

Well, time for Boris to go.

Lost both seats. In Tiverton and Honiton they had a 24k majority which they lost with a 30% swing to Lib Dems.

A couple of new MP`s getting to make dramatic victory speeches off the back of sitting MP`s failings (1 porn 1 sexual assault) strikes, cost of living etc.
T&H turnout 52%
Wakefield turnout 39%

"Distressed & disappointed" according to Olly.

Or just reflective of "news"? 🤷‍♀️

Maybe the Lib Dems will make a surge and they take votes from both sides...........politics eh?

At least the majority of voters don't fall for the Etonian accent eh!

At least Dowden realises that someone needs to take responsibility.

No surprises that it's not Boris as he's never taken responsibility for anything ever.

He really is the Tory turd that won't flush.

Ah well, General Election bloodbath now on the cards

Sadly, most of this is probably about voters being in utter contempt of the conservatives lead by Boris rather than anything labour have offered in opposition.

GE certainly will be messy.

Yes there was clearly a large protest vote going on but the idea of an progressive alliance is really taking hold.

I hope Johnson digs in and wreaks more damage to Tory electoral chances.

Would the "progressive alliance" be done by not standing in agreed seats and removing electoral choice?

If so its hardly democratic............ 🤷‍♀️

Remember both Thatcher and Blair had tricky mid terms but both went on to win comfortably at the next GE. ;)

Well it's no less democratic than FPTP. If it's something that needs to be done with a view to fixing our electoral system then so be it. Of course, if a Lib-Lab coalition got in they still wouldn't push for electoral reform, so guess it would achieve nothing long-term.

Huge amount of tactical voting. Liberals walloped in the north and Labour trounced in the south.
No amount of good news for PM last night

It's being done by the people, for the people. The ultimate in democracy I'd say.

Really?

A deal done by the opposition politicians is not "by the people".

Removing electoral choices/options is not "for the people".

Democracy is putting a strong enough case that the majority vote for it.

If a constituency offers fewer choices of the main parties the likelihood of many not voting increases.

Mandatory voting and proper PR is the future. :)
