Away Match Thread Barnet v Oxford United · Friendly · Sat 25 Jul, 15:00

Sorry to put a dampener on things but let’s be honest we have yet to play a team in the same division.
The Ipswich game will be the one game where we can see our worth although they are not going to field a full squad as in first teamers but nevertheless it will be interesting to see what happens.

We are closer in league position to Barnet than Ipswich, we will play teams who are closer in ability to Barnet than we will Ipswich, why is playing a premier league side going to be more relevant?

Assume Bradney signed a pro contract this summer?
We never did get the usual update from the club of which final year scholars were released and which were offered contracts.

That would be another blunder if we find he hasnt got a senior contract

Nothing stopping us giving any of our existing academy players a pro contract during an embargo.
Hopefully it won't be enforced, but this is a possible sanction.

As with offering players new contracts, which we aren't able to do apparently, the capacity to offer academy players their first professional contract is specifically mentioned in the rules as 'dependent upon the circumstances of the individual club'.

In Bradney's case, as @CaptainOx says, it's probably fair to assume he's got one.

Although I'd be delighted to see Brian make a return on Tuesday night, I'm also excited to see if Bradney makes a third appearance, especially since he doesn't really seem to have been on anyone's radar before Jin-Woo got that injury.

We could use a good news story.

Well obviously it’s the strongest test we shall have in friendly games . My concern is our front line , I’m not satisfied with what we have and wish , like many on here , spent the money that we have spent on a proven centre forward pre embargo , 25/26 season.

A front “4” of Emakhu Goodhram Mills and Sparky is one of the best attacks in the league despite what some people think. This isn’t the championship anymore. Lincoln just won the league with Rob Street and Reeco Hackett ffs.

There is not one winger as good as Mills in the league. We know how good Goodhram is and Sparky got 15 last time here. No other team has that. Emakhu is a raw talent but i believe there is something there. That also doesn’t include Woo and Dembele. Dembele who has done it as this level and seems to be well thought of by Ramsey.

Plus the guaranteed 15 g/a from the skipper.

100% this

Sparky shouldn't be anywhere near the starting eleven, @ Aldershot & Barnet he looked lost and was way of the pace .
O,'donkor starts against MK dons with Snowden behind him..

League One isn't s**t, there are some good sides there, and others that will battle like Hell for everything.

But we also need to have belief in ourselves. O'Donkor coming through is extremely welcome, and I wouldn't write Harris off yet either. Mills, Emakhu, Dembele and Jin-Woo give great options from the wing, Tyler in his best position in the middle, and Cam and BdK directing play, and we've got plenty to worry every defence in League One. And if these teams sit deeper against us, we then have the option of getting Spencer and Currie higher up the pitch.

So lots to be positive about.

I thought Harris did ok at Aldershot and will improve with practice. He’s likely to do better at this level

The championship really is a different league to L1 ,we were on the back foot for virtually every game ,we battled well and our defence was certainly not bottom of that league ,kets be honest it was midfield and attack even with a £20 million pound striker ,we are about 8th to 5th with our midfield the 2 strikers are poor the 4 wingers resonable hopefully Goodram in the 10 postion is like having a new signing ,lets hope no one is sold and we are in a postion at Xmas where things are sorted and we might have a chance of the play offs that would be fantastic.

That’s really good of you, not writing off a player in the prime of his career who was top scorer for a team that got promoted from this league the last time he had to play in it.

If you weren’t already aware, this could happen to any of your posts that are complained about. If I’d been asked, I could have changed the wording, with my consent. While I think about this I’m taking a break from the forum.

‘Hello

I can see that the words "and gents" were added to the post after a report was made by a member about the post. It was a very minor edit, made because the forum is used and viewed by both men and women, and the original wording could be interpreted by some as excluding part of the audience.

As a general rule, we try not to edit members' posts unless:

We become aware of an issue within a post.

We feel a small amendment is appropriate

All of which fall under the forum's Terms & Conditions.

No offence was intended by the edit.

I hope this clears up the matter.’
Don't worry it's nothing personal. Some mods on here delete and amend all sorts of posts, even when no-one's complained about them. Sometimes because they disagree with the content, sometimes for their own amusement. It's why I've largely stopped posting here.

(NB this is not a defence of your post, but the fact that a mod just decided what wording they would have preferred you used and attributed it to you is pretty poor)

We report on our pre-season games, plus we rediscover GOD, we lament a lost king of the Manor and much more.
