Away Match Thread Barnet v Oxford United · Friendly · Sat 25 Jul, 15:00

I tell you what, if we keep this squad together and they make a half decent start they’ll be very easy to get behind - a mix of old favourites, players in from the cold, and kids. More fun than last seasons overpriced misfits and confused continentals.

This is true.

I think people are also forgetting that half of this squad know what it takes to achieve league one promotion and that will certainly be advantageous if we aspire to go back up again.

That would be another blunder if we find he hasnt got a senior contract
He could play on a youth one regardless. My point was more around the unknown outcome for all the scholars last season.

No idea who is still around or not

I think it would outrageous of the EFL if they stopped Scholars signing pro contracts. Those contracts at a club like OUFC aren't going to be ones tipping us over the edge. Hence just about every team in trouble has generally relied on those type of players to fill the squad.

A side with Cumming, Spencer, Currie, Brown, Helik, McDonell, Brannagan, Goodrham etc being made out to be plucky underdogs in league one is amusing but should help with that us against the world spirit, assuming we still have all those players by the time the window closes.

They’ll certainly get added latitude because we haven’t got a case for “we should’ve upgraded on him in the summer”.

I don’t think there will be any fragmentation between fans and players so long as effort is there. We’ve got a good side but I don’t doubt there are going to be some players here against their will. So as long as they knuckle down and give it their best, that’s all we can ask. It shouldn’t be difficult to get a siege mentality going - they’re pissed off, we’re pissed off, let’s be pissed off together and have a go.

We’re going to need patience with young players who are about to be fast tracked and rely more on players who we’d drawn a line through. Some will thrive, others won’t, but that shouldn’t result in fans flipping tables.

I'm just hoping that we start going on winning albeit unbeaten runs again (just for football sanity)

Fairly reasonable assessment-Brodie is a last ditch specialist 😀 every time I thought he's going to seriously damage that player he comes away with the ball!

Side note I managed to get the match report edited for Barnet's correct Lge by emailing Ryan.
