You missed an aroma.Yep, miss that pungent sweaty concoction of body odour, beer, nicotine and urine as beauchamp smashes one in on the volley, before the audible snap of ankle ligaments as a hellish celebration ensued…they were the days.

Is there any actual rule in the EFL or PL that flags cannot be waved during games, or is this a rule the club have decided upon?Knew you guys had the potential to grow into something good for the club. The displays have been a great start and the atmosphere is improving. Glad I told you to stick with the drum, it improved the atmosphere ten fold when we used one years ago. You have a good drummer and coupled with good performances and sell out Championship attendances we are onto a winner.
You can see older Ultras lads mixing in and enjoying it in one of the videos above, proving yourself game by game, keep it up because the benefit to the club is huge. I hope the club don't underestimate how important a group like this is, they need to see how much difference you are making and relax more rules to allow things to progress and improve.
Hopefully the club and security can work together to allow flags to be waved all game in a certain section, that would be a great step forward. If anyone at the club is reading this, make it happen, let them wave the flags all game...
I don't think it's written anywhere in the rules, but with most things it's down to the clubs / security teams discretion. The last excuse they used was that the waving flags may block a security camera during the game, which seems a lame excuse when it wasn't an issue when we were allowed to wave them during the game years ago. Would love it if we can use small steps to eventually turn the East Stand into a German looking ultras stand one day, with a view to having this at a new stadium. Imagine waving flags at the front with the lads getting the crowd going from the front of the stand, atmosphere would be incredible. Is there any actual rule in the EFL or PL that flags cannot be waved during games, or is this a rule the club have decided upon?
I have seen large telescopic waver flags in use at other UK grounds during games. If the club policy is that a flag could impede a spectators view, then why not at least allow it on the back row, who's view would it be blocking then?
Hope the club can be proactive on this.
We are. It’s just that left-siders are better.Just a London Roader, didn't really get the left side, right side thing. All Oxford aren't we?
Hope you managed to complete the set when the let home fans into the Cuckoo Lane, such as the last game of the season 84/5 v Barnsley.I started going when I was 8 and did the full journey of maturity:
- Beech Road seats
- Beech Road terrace in front of the seats
- Beech Road terrace next to the London Road
- Osler Road terrace
- Right (wrong) side London Road
- Left side London Road
That's fighting talkJust a London Roader, didn't really get the left side, right side thing. All Oxford aren't we?
Since the group formed around this time last year all we’ve wanted is to make a better atmosphere, especially at home.
Like a few have mentioned, the Kassam’s acoustics and the fact we currently have no section or safe standing makes it very difficult to create an atmosphere, which hopefully may be fixed or at least made easier if and when we move ground.
But as a group we’re so pleased to see the atmosphere finally kick on these last few games, the drum has certainly helped. Many of us were also a bit skeptical of it, but we decided it was worth a try and it’s good to see that it has paid off.
The fans pulled through when the players needed it, long may it continue and improve next season.
Well I did stand there between matches in the 5-a-side competition on The Manor.Hope you managed to complete the set when the let home fans into the Cuckoo Lane, such as the last game of the season 84/5 v Barnsley.
Close enough. I played in that as well, we played our matches in the Cuckoo Lane / Beech Road corner. Still got the certificate from the day somewhere.Well I did stand there between matches in the 5-a-side competition on The Manor.
Waving flags during games is something that we have been hoping to do for a while now. We have been working with the club to try make this possible and will continue to do so. And in all fairness to them, the club have been very good with us and our relationship with them is growing stronger. Is there any actual rule in the EFL or PL that flags cannot be waved during games, or is this a rule the club have decided upon?

Ah, stood there for the 2:2 cup game v Man Utd in1972 on the slightly raised bit back right looking at the pitch. Got a good view of Bobby Charlton annoying, late equilizer.Hope you managed to complete the set when the let home fans into the Cuckoo Lane, such as the last game of the season 84/5 v Barnsley.
At least you were there, dad decided I was too young to go. Harsh, I was nearly 3 weeks old by then...Ah, stood there for the 2:2 cup game v Man Utd in1972 on the slightly raised bit back right looking at the pitch. Got a good view of Bobby Charlton annoying, late equilizer.
The bloke in the south stand lower is in his sixties, old school.![]()
Well if we’ve just scored a goal and there’s any doubt that it might get chalked off for not crossing the line, get those big flags waving immediately dammit! The reason we’ve been given is that there is a goal line tech camera along the back wall of the east stand, and therefore flags larger than 1m cannot be waved during the game incase it gets blocked.
Reminds me of this classic:Just a London Roader, didn't really get the left side, right side thing. All Oxford aren't we?
Depends if it was the Portsmouth game at home.If someone has paid money to watch a football match, they are hardly going to want a flag waved in front of them during a match blocking their view.
That could be a winner, from a brief read up they use a camera mounted to the stand roof. You could argue this could simply be mounted further forward so that the flags are behind the camera, surely something that the club could work on over the summer... come on OUFC!The reason we’ve been given is that there is a goal line tech camera along the back wall of the east stand, and therefore flags larger than 1m cannot be waved during the game incase it gets blocked.
Splitters!Reminds me of this classic:
Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!" He said, "Nobody loves me." I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"
He said, "Yes." I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?" He said, "A Christian." I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me, too! What franchise?" He said, "Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?" He said, "Northern Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"
He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region." I said, "Me, too!"
Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912." I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him off the bridge.
I'd have paid someone to wave a flag in front of me at the two QPR games this season. If someone has paid money to watch a football match, they are hardly going to want a flag waved in front of them during a match blocking their view.
So if they fill those empty rows at the back of the east stand. You would then have the income from the extra seats of off set any outgoing cost."Safe standing" is actually "Railed Seating" and costs anything from around £80 per seat to install, but likely to be higher if covering a relatively small section. I've heard talk of £100k+ for fewer than 1000 seats.
Unfortunately, the ground situation, and still no agreement to play there beyond next summer means that we won't be seeing this at the Kassam.
We won't get a safety certificate for the space at the back of the East Stand. So if they fill those empty rows at the back of the east stand. You would then have the income from the extra seats of off set any outgoing cost.
Sometimes these small marginal gains can prove to be invaluable to staying in the league next season.
Just curious, why is that? They were obviously in the original plan I’m guessing. Then to not utilise them seems odd. Did they just get carried away?We won't get a safety certificate for the space at the back of the East Stand.
Our best bet for getting "safe standing" would be to have this within a temporary stand at the fence end. However, we still come back to the fact that it's not our stadium and we may only have one season left there.
If we get approval on the planning application, AND a deal can be done to extend our stay until 2028, then maybe these are things that can be pushed through. But we don't have the most cooperative of landlords unfortunately.
I started on the Cuckoo Lane in 1972 , then London Road, Osler Rd, Beech Rd, ended up stewarding every stand bit mostly Cuckoo Lane in among the awsy fans, then pitchside un front of themI started going when I was 8 and did the full journey of maturity:
- Beech Road seats
- Beech Road terrace in front of the seats
- Beech Road terrace next to the London Road
- Osler Road terrace
- Right (wrong) side London Road
- Left side London Road
