General Around the leagues

Phil forgets he had Disney money to spend on forwards when Wrexham were in the Conference.

But not every team has a premier scorer like Bowen in its ranks. Nor some of the other quality players in their team.
Wrexham would not be where they are without having spent a lot of money to do it. Their expenditure has been chicken feed compared with the likes of West Ham who look destined for a very quick return to the top flight.

I think the point is more that Wrexham have achieved success through outspending others, so can hardly moan too much when they come up against a team that has massively outspent them. Denying West Ham any credit for their victory is effectively denying yourselves any credit for your rise through the leagues (which, you know, is maybe partially a fair cop.)

MK Dons draw against their best friends in football means they have now drawn 6 of their 7 games this season, AFC Dons go above us as a result. MK Dons are having the season some of our “take a draw” fans would love though.

Not checked the stats myself, but apparently it's over 8 hours of play since MK have scored in the derby. Presumably that's the way all other football fans hope it continues.

Kop Stand development at Wrexham - September 2026

Sounds like it was dreadful game:

I watched some of the second half and it was a bit dreary. But still not as boring as watching completely over exposed Premiership teams* playing in Europe.

*Edit: who I don't give a flying one about.

League 1.
Last season draws accounted for just over 30% of the fixtures. So far this season only 25%, so more points are being allocated. Maybe teams will need more points this season for play off and promotion. Any statisticians out there who can analyse the last 10 seasons and let me know by close of play please.

Curtis Nelson was also very lucky he didn't concede a penalty for handball in the 1st half.

Sad to hear that former Palace, Exeter, Bristol Rovers keeper Kevin Miller died this week aged 57. He did a lot for football, particularly in the South West and was recently keeper coach at Exeter before moving to Wigan in the summer.

A very good lower league keeper, I was there when he single-handedly kept Bristol Rovers in the game against Us, ended 0-0 thanks to him.

Have I missed that terrestrial is now showing EFL games?

Spotted that the Millwall v Hammers game is on ITV this afternoon - has ITV been Championship games for a while without me realising?
I don't know about that, but I do know ITV broadcasted a pre-season friendly between Leeds and ManUre.

They show a few championships and league cup games a season, quite often the early kick off.

Watched the Glasgow derby yesterday. The atmosphere was so poor without away fans. The clubs, fans and authorities really need to resolve that situation sooner rather than later.

Think that will only get resolved by the fans changing behaviour I think. They managed to riot after effectively being given the title. The Police are still tracking down and arrested those involved in the situation as they arrested some recently.

The Football Authorities could try docking points from them I guess or banning their fans for multiple games per incident. However I'm not sure how effective that would be or whether the Authorities have the backbone to do it.

The English authorities were able to all but stamp it out south of the boarder, so surely if the Scottish powers actually made a solid effort they'd be able to handle it too? I understand the historic sectarianism makes it "more than just football", but in 2026, is there really such a fierce divide other than on the pitch? No.

I'm not sure but I remember my Scots grandmother saying my sister looked like 'a wee Catholic' because she had pierced ears.

Whilst the majority of Rangers/Celtic fans do behave themselves, the sectarianism there is alive and well. Sectarian songs and banners never really went away.

Sadly, the sectarianism is alive and well.

It would also require the Scottish Football Authorities to stand up against it which they seem to continue to only pay lip service to. Look at the whitewash over last season and pretty much ignoring the pitch invasion/final whistle situation at the final game.

For example, if the Authorities were genuinely serious they could dock points or alternatively ban Rangers/Celtic fans from their home games but they don't. Instead they give pitiful fines or sweep it under the rug.

That’s the point though, without away fans there is no atmosphere so it needs to be resolved. It was a dull watch yesterday.

The disallowed Rangers goal, when they scored it, was reminiscent of a COVID empty stadium game. The booing at the end by Celtic fans seemed to be the noisiest moment of the bits I saw.

I know it can't happen as so many professional clubs are dependant on the bigger teams in Scotland, but Aberdeen, Hibs/Hearts and Celtic/Rangers would be.... interesting to have in the English football system.

Imagine Millwall v Celtic, Plymouth v Aberdeen, Cardiff v Hibs, it would be kind of fascinating.
