General Around the leagues

Something to do with the cut off and turn into a top and bottom division for the last few games that tinpot leagues like in Scotland do, sounds shite.

Football forum weirdo’s will probably want it here as it’s change, they should be ignored, about everything.

WTF is that Scottish thing where they divide the league? I guess the alternative is to play Dunfermline four times a season

There’s a bizarre story I think on BBC how a Dutch team need to lose to make the play-offs. But if they win their trickle down play off place drops out. Maybe @Malc can explain.

Den Bosch are in a weird situation because the Eerste Divisive playoffs are decided in more than one way.

Some teams go through their overall league position, but others can get in by winning one of the "period" tables (basically each quarter) which are basically mini-leagues.

ADO Den Haag, the team I follow over here, have already won the title so aren't eligible for the playoffs. If Den Bosch beat ADO Den Haag they could accidentally help Vitesse Arnhem finish above ADO Den Haag and Den Bosch in the fourth period table. Therefore giving Vitesse a playoff spot at the expense of themselves (Den Bosch).

If Den Bosch lose to ADO Den Haag then ADO stay ahead of Vitesse in the fourth quarter period table. And because ADO are already champions, that playoff slot gets passed down to the next team which could be Den Bosch. I'm confusing myself typing this but hopefully that makes sense.

The rules usually work quite well but this time it's created a situation where Den Bosch have this bizarre incentive to not win.

So was that explanation in Dutch, or English?

Step 1 -Top two go up.
Step 2 - Bottom two go down.
Step 3 - Third from top play third from bottom of next league up..
Step 4 - Fourth from top play fourth from bottom of next league up.
Deciding final between winners of Step 3 and Step 4 for promotion or remaining "up" as appropriate.

Play offs all the way from the bottom of the Prem to the lowest tier.

Why should a team that are bottom end of the division above get a 2nd chance especially with a likely massive budget advantage?

Chelsea remain the only club to have been relegated via a Play-Off system, when they lost to Middlesbrough in 1987/8 to come down with us.

Rochdale vs York, the big decider in the National League. An enthralling game so far, so much passion on and off pitch and game is going to and fro (without a great deal of skill or clear-cut chances, it has to be said).

And Will Finnie in the middle making some curious decisions, plus ca change.

Come on you Minstermen!

Unsurprisingly, Den Bosch lost 1-3 (with their own goal only being scored once Den Haag were already 3 up). Wonder what the betting patterns were like on that match 🤔

One of the craziest finishes to one of the craziest seasons in memory. Unreal!

Their defending for the goals was highly suspect.

The Den Bosch fans were celebrating when they conceded. And they absolutely hate ADO Den Haag!

Worked out in the end for them and Den Bosch are in the playoffs.

So after a big weekend of football the following finalised :

Man City v Chelsea in the FA Cup final

Something very sad happened in the championship 😭

Bolton in the play offs in league one

MK Dons promoted to league one, Grimsby guaranteed to be in the play offs

York win the league and are promoted back into the football league on the final day, Rochdale join about 57 other clubs in the silly play offs system they use.

Worthing and Fylde into the National league with 407 clubs in the above silly play offs system.

Anyone know the story with the no.11 who came on for them. Not often the ref shakes a player’s hand mid-game. I’m guessing he may have come back from a serious illness?

It was his last game for Den Bosch (he’s a bit of an icon there), his kids were holding up the board when he got subbed on.

You think we have a "massive budget advantage" over, lets say Bolton, Stockport (maybe we have) or Bradford?

Game is decided on the pitch not a spreadsheet.

Alfreton and Curzon Ashton were both relegated from National League South after drawing 3-3 on Saturday.
A win for either club would have kept that club safe.
Alfreton were 3-0 up after 52 minutes, and Curzon Ashton got their equaliser on 90+9 to send Alfreton down.

Seems odd that 2 teams, both more northern than Oxford City, play in the National League South ;)

National League playoffs take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and then Sunday this week.

Ex-and current U’s in action include James Golding, Slavi Spasov and Leon Chambers-Parillon who will be playing for Southend as they take on Scunthorpe.

Liam Sercombe is contracted to FGR still but has only played for them once this season aside from a loan spell at Weston-Super-Mare. They take on Boreham Wood.

Rochdale, who will play the winner of Southend v Scunthorpe, have Tyler Smith in their ranks.
