General Around the leagues

So if a team finishes a certain amount of points ahead of a team that should rule out the play offs? It shouldn’t go by league positioning but by points difference? People wouldn’t moan about that?

It’s a football league, it has to have rules, they have to be fairly simple, if you want the play offs, which most sensible people who are not fans of a lot of dead rubber fixtures do, you need cut off places by positions, which will always be a fairly blunt tool but, as I said, you know before the season starts where you stand.
I think you can use a combination of both - keep league position as the primary factor, but give the higher placed team a goal headstart in any playoff game for every "x" points they finished ahead (maybe 6,8 or 10 perhaps)

Not only would it reflect a tangible advantage for the team doing better over the whole season, it would also encourage clubs in the playoff zone to keep pushing to the last day to maximise/minimise the gaps to their potential playoff opponents.

Amusing when the usual tantrums by Real Madrid players start. How dare the Ref has the temerity to give a major decision against them. Nevermind how moronic Camavinga was for the 2nd yellow card. Vinicius Jnr's was having a constant tantrum for the point of the red card being given. Utterly stupid by Arda Guler as well to get a straight red from the Ref even though 2 RM players had already moved him away before getting it.

2 seasons according to commentary that Real Madrid have failed to win a major Trophy.

Classic two legged tie though, goals, drama and real quality. Not that I saw any of it live, just on highlights, because like a fool I stuck with the exact opposite in a tedious Arsenal Sporting 1-0 over two legs.

Bayern/PSG has the potential to be a classic European semi final, whereas Arsenal/Athletico has the potential to be talked about as all time dull one with Simone up against this Arsenal side. I don't actually mind Arsenal winning the league as its been 22 years and I like some change in the names who win stuff, but they are a hard watch, very much in the George Graham mould. Can't see the winner not coming from Bayern/PSG tie though, just a different level.

To complicated for me. Sport like, life, isn't always fair, that's part of the excitement for me.

Rotherham relegated to league two.

Southend complete the play off line up in the national league with only the York/Rochdale top spot left to sort out in that division.
Yes and if York draw their last two games they are up but if they win tomorrow but lose their last game they are not guaranteed promotion. 😵‍💫

York play Rochdale last game, as long as results go certain ways tomorrow its a pretty rare last day clash between two sides going for the title.

It's 105 point Rochdale vs. 107 point York for the automatic Conference promotion spot.

Conference should probably just cancel the playoffs and let them both go up!

What, when you could have the team in 7th go up instead?

If Boreham Wood win their last game they will finish on 90pts, and that will only be good enough for fourth.

What were the rules at the start of the season? They signed up to those rules, can’t complain now.

It’s not like they have just played 37 games and decided to call that that is it? Apart from a 4 team play off. Now that was unfair on I believe Tranmere.

They have had 46 games to come top, points decide what position you finish in, position decides your fate.

I wasn't being serious!

That being said, if you were going to change the rules, you could do worse than what they do in the lower divisions in Italy.

For quite of a few of their leagues, they have a playoff for the last promotion or relegation spot - but only if the teams in question are close. If there's more than a 5 point gap between them, they scrap the playoff and just have the higher team go up/lower team go down.

It seems fairer than a system that could end up seeing Forest Green or Southend finishing the best part of 30 points behind the loser on Saturday, but still going up instead of them. Putting increasing emphasis on the playoffs just ends up getting us closer and closer to the US system where for the most part for the good teams, particularly for Hockey and Basketball, the regular season is just a six month tune up before the real games begin.

That Italian system seems terrible, would hate that.

Difference between us and your septic neighbours is our system rewards the best teams without the play offs, Coventry have not played 46 games for no reason for instance, so it’s not really a like for like comparison.

People just like moaning, the system is fine as is, all the moaning about refs just got us VAR, whatever system replaces what we currently have would be shitter, then people will just moan about how that’s not fair.

The system that they are just changing this year to increase the number of teams in the Championship playoffs you mean.......

Burnley relegated tonight, come back in a year and I will be able to write Burnley promoted. Somehow they have managed to make being the ultimate yo-yo team as boring as being Preston, some effort that.
We can only aspire to being a yo-yo team

Out of interest why do you think it is right?
3 go down from the prem, championship, 4 from league 1 and 2 from league 2. Why not 3 from all of them?
4 go down from the national league, why not 2 since it is only 2 up?
How many teams in the last few years that have come up from the national league have gone straight back down again?
4 go down so 2 can go up from NLN &
NLS

There’s a bizarre story I think on BBC how a Dutch team need to lose to make the play-offs. But if they win their trickle down play off place drops out. Maybe @Malc can explain.

In that case then, let’s get rid of VAR, goal line technology, only have 3 subs, no squad numbers, stating team is 1-11, no names on the shirts. The list could go on 😅
Three subs? No subs if you want to go back to basics

Sorry but that is new to me. Do you know the name of the team? I don't follow the Dutch football much, just thedutch Premier League.

It's time to spice up the leagues, the bottom 2 Teams automatic relegation, then the bottom 4 teams after them in play offs to stay up 🤷🏼‍♂️🫣😂

FC Den Bosch, apparently. Lots about this on various sites.
