Very good player, strangely playing the better teams suits his game more. Next step is for him to be slightly more dominant and controlled in the games we’re not sitting so deep in.

I think that’s because of the advanced position he’s usually being asked to play.

In an away game against a good side we’re likely to not have much of the ball, so even as a central player higher up the pitch your main job is going to be to press, to tackle.

I think he’d be good as one of the two sitting players against one of the poor sides, but you need someone more creatively minded in that attacking role as you will have more of the ball.

He’s actually a great ball carrier. In that respect he reminds me of Shandon, and it’s something we’ve lacked in midfield for a while.

It would be great if he was encouraged to break the lines more and run with the ball. It draws fouls and also creates space for others

Does he have a future at Chelsea or is he someone we can get permanently in the summer?
I dream of being able to sign him permanently. However, I believe he's already played first team football at Chelsea which I expect either means that they think he has a future there, or that he may think that if he is moving permanently that a lower table PL side or top of the table Championship side might be his best bets.

I really like him as a player, and his mobility, athleticism, pace and tenacity is something we need to bring in to the middle of the midfield.

I would bite your arm off to sign him (not yours specifically......just a metaphorical random arm)

I'd like to think we have a serious chance of picking him up in the summer if we stay up.

He'd have to go on some serious development curve between now and then to be considered good enough for the PL, unless Chelsea intend to keep him on for another year and loan him out again and keep close tabs on his progress.

We'll see.

He has but literally one appearance for a couple of minutes 2 years ago in stoppage time when they were winning 2-0 so probably a tactical time wasting substitution.

I think we’d have a chance of getting him. Depends what contract he’s on though and when it ceases. Luke Garbutt was on £28k a week at Everton and he made 5 appearances for them.

He has one more year on his contract at Chelsea. I'm not sure that he's yet done enough to warrant a permanent move much higher up the Championship, so I would think that we'd have a decent chance of getting him unless his wages are silly. If that was the case then a season long loan with a decent sized loan fee could also work.

Edit - Google gives his wages at between £5.5k-7.5k per week which is entirely manageable.

Another to have seemingly slipped under the radar from yesterday - thought he was excellent off the bench (in a game that was admittedly perfect for him - his coming on was as obvious as it was sensible).

I waxed lyrical about him post-Norwich, but I can't recall a player in our recent history with anywhere near his ability to both protect the ball so exquisitely and buy a foul so brilliantly (Mark Harris - watch and learn).

I also really admire his willingness and ability to get into advanced areas - he helped alleviate a lot of pressure yesterday by doing so.

A pragmatic signing for a (finally) pragmatic football team...

Maybe a possible signing for next season ( even if it's a season long loan).
He can be that holding midfield player or play further forward.

It is unbelievable that Matos didn’t get on the pitch tonight.

Vaulkes and Brannagan were dreadful. It was their worst performance as a pair, by a distance. Yet, Matos can’t get a go at any point.

I’d have had him over TG at half time, without doubt.

They were not fully fit I'd have said and we don't have a reasonable alternative really for both positions

Alex Matos
He may have to start Saturday.
Before last night, many on here were suggesting that our midfield is far better with Vaulks, Cam in it
Matos has done reasonably well but to me he is less disciplined that the 2 who started.
Just because Matos may start in front of Brannaghan, I suspect, won't make us a better team.

I wasn’t calling for him to start last night, but it wouldn’t have been beyond the pale to introduce him at half time I don’t think. It was clear that Vaulkes and Brannagan were having very tough evenings.

I tell you if we could get this lad on a permanent this summer, we would be hard-pressed to do a better piece of business all window. His run down the right hand side was almost baffling, players bounced of him and it didn't seem to stifle him at all.

This!

Ive said for a while that he’s one we could do a lot worse than making our player.

Looks like he’s really enjoying it here, too.

Put in an absolute shift today. His aggression and willingness to tackle is something we’ve really needed. Making a permanent move in the summer would be some fantastic business.
In the videos on Matos when he signed, it was his tenacity and intensity which I was most excited by.

He’s exactly the sort of player we’ve needed for a number of years and I’d be delighted to keep him.

I can’t see him ever in a first team blue shirt, I’m not knocking the guy but how many home grown players do Chelsea have? They would rather spend north of 30 million in a player so I hope Ed Waldron is in discussion with Rowatt about him.

Matos is one of the only players we have had willing to drive forward with the ball since Shandon Baptiste left. He's also a unit who loves to put a tackle in and is very much up for the battle.

Still a bit of a work in progress, and has looked a little inconsistent at times. But that means that he's unlikely to be on the radar of the bigger clubs, and I'm equally not sure he's shown enough for Chelsea to offer an extended deal.

I would imagine that a sensible bid and a 3 (+1) year deal would be enough to get him this summer. Alternatively, a season long loan with a heavy loan fee might give Chelsea the option to get more next summer (looks like he'll be out of contract but a development fee would still apply).

Would love him to sign permanently. Would like the club to start taking some of these loans with possible future permanent options.

He is versatile, a ridiculous athlete and offers a physicality that we don’t possess. He’s a walk yellow card, but his combativeness is an asset.

I think Rowett has used him well. It would be tempting to put him as a holding midfielder and switch out Brannagan/vaulks, but playing him in the #10 prevents the opposition defence from settling and allows us to turn over the ball higher up the pitch.

Easy to forget he’s 20 and already has championship experience. Players of a similar type and age are rare. Would look to make it permanent asap assuming we stay up

I don’t really understand this fixation with a no 10 in the modern game. Just play 4:3:3. Pack the midfield and any of the midfield 3 can have licence to get forward if the opportunity presents itself.
