Current Staff Aaron Ramsey

Just worth picking this up; the young lady who asked the opening questions was very good, clear and prepared. I enjoyed her questioning.

Jerome too was good.
Thing was by the end of the second set of questions all the good ones had been asked

Unbelievable that people are finding fault with our new head coach over the quality of his interview! Having already established he’s quite new to the position give the poor chap a chance to learn (in my opinion) one of the less important aspects over time!

I’ll reserve judgement until the MK Dons game, and then only because I hate MK Dons more than Slumdon!

Appleton was a bag of nerves during one of his first radio Oxford interviews and we did quite well eventually

So noone actually knows?

- I presumed some posters closer to the club would recognise them (if local) - so maybe they were from national outlets then?

Mike Dodds strengths appear to be with working with and developing young players. I'm not sure how much he did as an assistant manager or how he would have fitted into Ramsey's plans.

Personally, I'd have liked to keep him around and working with the likes of Tyler, Mills, Spencer etc to get the very best from their game.

But I don't know if that would have fitted with his ambitions, and it's maybe the right move for all parties.

If the rumours of who Ramsey wants as his coaching team are true it’s a little concerning that they won’t be available for a couple of weeks.

I guess Short and Hackett will hold the fort for the first few coaching sessions

Didn’t Ed say his staff will be sorted before pre-season. Isn’t the start of pre-season monday?

Reports have suggested Dodds was heading to Blackburn for weeks now (even before Bloomfield left) so makes sense to finalise his departure before confirming what comes next.

If Gunther is coming in as #2/coach, then he and Ramsey can discuss preseason strategy even before he arrives in person, with AR and the current staff running the sessions in the meantime

First week of preseason will be about fitness rather than structured coaching sessions. Not ideal if we haven't got the full team in place, but not critical.
“Not ideal” tends to be a recurring theme around our recent pre-seasons. Wouldn’t mind an ideal one at some point..

Is that the B-side to the annual rendition of 'the window doesn't close til the end of August'?

For the development of these two very young coaches, I actually think their involvement in this European U19 Championship could be ideal preparation before joining forces again at club level (as they did briefly under Ramsey at Cardiff).

It's the intense culmination of two years working together with this age group, and I'm trying to see their first proper tournament as a kind of mini-training camp.

Looking into it, they've had some good results (beating Turkey, Italy and the Netherlands, drawing away against France despite an early red card) - as well as a few thumpings (7-0 against England).

If Ramsey wants to add new medical or conditioning staff, on the other hand, I'd like to see them in on Monday.

They are only running up shotover, main thing is they don’t get lost so Hacketts local knowledge is vital.

When we appointed Bloomfield our senior management said that they had followed a thorough due diligence process to ensure we appointed the right manager/made the right decision, so when Tim comes out with the same spiel re; Ramsey’s appointment e.g. he initially said that it took time because of the new management changes, but then also said that wanted to make the right decision, so which was it? Was it to take time to ensure we had the right person for the job or because of the change of management?

And what makes it more reassuring if they failed so miserably last time?

It’s just corporate spiel/bollox without diving into the real issues/being honest. Which is, Bloomfield wasn’t Thohir’s man, he failed with his objective of keeping us up. Having said that, the management failed with their objective by appointing Bloomfield.

Had to say this as Tim f*****g irritates me with his corporate b*****s, but we’re never going to truly move forward with sustainability if we’re not being honest and addressing these issues/mistakes time and time again.

Not true. Thohir was the one who made the final decision in January.
But was it? I vaguely remember reading that it took him 2 weeks or more to give the go ahead on Bloomfield, so was it his selection or others, but required his ratification?

And if it was Thohir’s man, what was the rationale for getting rid of Bloomfield? And if it was because he (Thohir) got it wrong, then why did it take 6+ weeks to rectify?

Tim also mentioned the objectives remained the same after catching up with the new management, do again, no delay required.

Additionally, Tim mentions when asked about the target for next season re; getting back into the Championship that there big clubs were competing against that have come down (Leicester/Sheffield Wed), plus others coming up etc, so going to be difficult, but then Ed doesn’t seem aligned when referring to recruitment, in that, he mentions about them having to make wholesale changes, whereas, we talk of having a stable squad with minimum changes, so again, what is it?

It’s corporate bollox

Ed also said we want stability and no big changes. Think you misheard him.

So why take any notice of it? Its no different from people getting het up by Ramsey's interview.

Some of it is about structuring expectations. We may have come down from the Championship but there are other big clubs who have come down in the last couple of seasons, and others like MK Dons and Wycombe who will have competitive budgets too.

We should be absolutely targetting promotion (and believe we are) but Tim would have also been criticised if he'd said we were going to smash the league.

And stability is about keeping our key players and building on them to strengthen the squad. We will still be looking to move on several players and replacing them with better. There's nothing inconsistent in this message.

As for Head Coaches, there was a local process completed by Ed and co. in January, but Erick wanted to make the final decision and met with Bloomfield and (I think) two others. It was his call.

Bloomfield was also given assaurances at the end of the season, but this changed recently. Its my belief that this was driven by Dusan and Erick wanting a "name" and change of direction. But others have suggested a fall out behind the scenes. Either way, the call would have been by those at the top of the chain.

So, like I originally said, Bloomfield wasn’t his man, but selected by Ed and Co. and ratified ultimately by Erick.

Whereas, Ramsey seems to be Erick’s man, and to a certain extent as he’s the one forking out the money he has a right to do this, but whether that’s the right approach is to be seen! I’d questioned it though!

Even though I personally didn’t rate Bloomfield and felt he should have done better, I still don’t like the way things have panned out and raises questions for me about the whole senior management decision making/structure.

Sure, I don’t have to listen to Tim, but as a fan I do like to think I can trust our senior management to make the best decisions, but when I hear contradictions within that same structure it does raise concerns. I also think that being open and honest is the best course of action, so when I hear obvious contradictions then again it raises concerns.

Like I said, what have they done differently in appointing Ramsey compared to Bloomfield or Rowett etc! But still come out with the same spiel e.g. had to take time to make sure it’s the right person, fits with our culture, aligned with recruitment etc, but when this fails which it did, what word or assurances can they give that they did it right or was it for other factors?

When I said them, I meant Leicester/Sheffield Wednesday, so not us e.g. it should be an advantage for us, but when Tim talks about these same clubs he talks about us have to bat against a more superior club etc, so which way is it!!

They have gone for the name

How rousing will the Gunter and Hutton half-time team talk need to be?

They're 4-0 down against Spain (although it turns out their #10 had 16 senior appearances for Real Madrid this season, most of them starts).

Quite hard to find, but all the games are on the Beeb.

Make that 5-0 (inside 30 seconds of the second half - superb finish)
