Home Match Day Thread 31/01/2026 - MDT: Oxford United v Birmingham City

Slow, ponderous and lacking in creativity, no knee jerk reaction, but we are in trouble!

I think this match more of less confirms relegation. If my maths is correct and at least 50 points is need to reach safety then we have to win the equivalent of eight of the remaining games.
does anybody really believe we are capable of that?

That's it relegation I'm afraid, no way back poor poor home display can't see no come back now..

What we haven’t got is 1/2 creative midfielders and pace
Our forwards live off scraps , none of our signings are the sort of players who can make chances
Birmingham knew we couldn’t really hurt them and only look threatening from corners throws or free kicks
It’s now between Blackburn WBA Pompey and us but we needed something today and games like these and frankly we just are good enough

I'm going to add Leicester to that list as well, if they get the expected points deduction Amongst other things we were just too slow to shift the ball today. We get in a dangerous position and we wait until they've got everyone behind the ball before we do anything.

System and result was a good reflection on us last week
Mess around and shuffle the pack is worrying, pretty poor understanding of this sqaud.
Only saw 2 nd half and they were coasting, a lesson for Bloomfield to realise where he is. And not to try being so clever

A real shame. Yet again after a result that could mark a turning point, we turn in a diabolical performance.

A few of the players have a lot to answer to there. Brown may as well have played with his hands in his pockets today.

That said, I’m sat here in disbelief that we’ve just watched 90 minutes of the most blatant midfield overload you will see, and not only did we start with no answer to that, we continued it right to the end and at no point put an extra body in there to even it up. It’s one game, but the first where I am really pointing the finger at Bloomfield and Dodds for their ignorance. We’ve just allowed an opponent to dominate a game which is exactly why Rowett was sent packing. A system with wing backs despite no wing backs being available is arrogance of the highest order. Switching the wingers when they were highly effective in those roles at Leicester. A real management shocker.

BDK’s critics are probably having a moment to reflect. No words for how much we missed him and Currie today.

Problems everywhere in that performance and, as if we needed one, a firm reminder that we are bang up against it. Weirdly though, games like Tuesday seem to suit us, so who knows.

Bad, bad day.

s**t performance in todays game ... as was the bird pre match, with a visit from Brum karaoke queens on a small coach, who didnt make themselves known until tvp appeared en masse - poor on both counts Oxford
