Its a "must win" for me, got a Burnley supporting friend who will dine out on it forever if they win. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Why? It would be like us bragging about beating lower league opposition like Oxford City or Swindon Town. They’re expected to win.

I sense our first home home defeat of the season. At full strength with CamBran and McEachran involved, I think we’d give them a game but we’re playing a second string midfield against a side I think we all expect to be finishing no lower than second this year.

Perhaps Sibley can be the one to step in or Vaulks can step up from his fairly ordinary start with us. As it is, if we came out of the game with a point, I would not be disappointed.

Although I think he's done pretty well, I feel this is over hyping the impact of McEachran. Yes, he'll spray the odd pass and generally keep the ball moving but in this league there needs to be more dynamism in the midfield. I thought Vaulks looked real quality in the first few games - bar that costly back pass - and I'd much rather see him in there than JM. I certainly don't consider JM to be part of our 'full strength' side - he isn't the player for 90 minutes, week in and week out. Brannagan is a massive gap to fill and the man taking on that mantle has to be Vaulks in my opinion.

Only for my peace and sanity - I`ve spent a long time telling him Burnley will reach their natural level. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I predict a bit of a humbling defeat here, if we play like we did against Bristol C. It would be good to see Dane Scarlett getting some more game time - not because I think he's very good but because there must be a reason Des wanted him, and he'll need some minutes in him to get up to temperature.

And Harris might struggle against the stronger back lines.

Went to Burnley-Pompey. Burnley were incredibly good at keeping the ball and very patient but they put a a lot of players on the edge of the box. Portsmouth had some luck on the counter, spreading the ball to the wingers, so frustratingly this would be a perfect game for Bran or McEachran and their long diagonals.
Think we’ll do well to get anything from this, given the precision of their passing, but if Harris is on form and Rodrigues etc can split the lines we have a chance. COYY.

I have a notion that Des and the stats team have been working on this for a while. I see no reason why we cannot compete, and win. Confidence is a big issue. After the disappointment of Bristol the squad, as a whole, will have had a good look at themselves and their performance and will know where improvement must be evident.
2-1 OUFC.

Losing and Coventry and Bristol are doubly annoying because two points there would cover games like this where we might only get a point. As it is, a win would be incredible, I’d definitely take a draw and a loss would put a lot more pressure on the upcoming Portsmouth game, because Luton away is likely to be tough…

Most of us are back to feeling like the underdogs again by the looks. Good. The expectation that we would almost certainly win against Bristol City from so many was ridiculous. There are no easy games at this level and we will need to be on it every single week to secure points. The slipped (at least from the fans) last weekend.

Looking forward to this one. Real test of our home form, prep work, and squad depth.

I think when you’ve already won over half of your games in the season so far (and arguably deserved a draw in the only losses), and are 1-0 up at half time against a side who have lost their last two games 3-0 (and have only won once all season), and you’ve already hit the bar, and then miss a great chance to go 2-0 up… well, you can be excused for thinking you might win? I know football doesn’t always work like that, but there is some context for that thinking.

What i like about this game is nobody apart from our own fans give a chance everyone expects Burnley to win . Now not so long ago we played a team from the north west nobody gave us a chance everyone expected Bolton to win but Des had other ideas he set his team up to strangle the life out them. This Oxford team have something about them especially at home we don’t give up we fight until the end so on that basis I’m going 2-2 with us getting a late equaliser

Whether we (the fans) think we are going to win, draw or lose makes no difference to the actual result, you will be turning up in full kit and shin pads next.

Er, so is Portsmouth

We shouldn't ever be turning up at home irrespective of the opposition and scavenging around for the draw. You only take the draw if we are losing with a minute to go lol.

2-1 Oxford with our two goals coming in the second half.

Ol' adage.....play the team and not the name as our home games are obviously where the majority of our points are going to come from and atm the proof is in the home championship table and not the away day pudding.

COYY'S

Yes, must win for me just because I shared a flat in uni with a burnley fan and he was just a genuine t**t.

I went to burnley once and it's a horrible shithole so I will take 0 comments from their fans about the Kassam.

WE’VE MET U BEFORE

Oxford Utd and Burnley have only played each other 14 times in the EFL. Oxford have three league victories to Burnley’s five. Oxford have won two FA Cup ties
against Burnley.

The last time the U’s and the Clarets met each other in Oxfordshire was at the old Manor Ground on April 15th 2000. United were fighting a relegation battle whilst Burnley
were aiming for promotion to what is now called the Championsip. After taking a 13th minute lead through midfielder Matt Murphy, Claret’s equalised with five minutes remaining when centre-back Steve Davis headed in and with seconds to go sub Ian Wright crossed for fellow sub Paul Weller to direct another header past the despairing
dive of ‘keeper Richard Knight.

United under Denis Smith managed to stay up in 1999-2000 and Burnley - managed by Stan Ternent - finished runners up to Champions Preston North End.

U’s: Richard Knight - Les Robinson Mark Watson Phil Whelan Paul Powell - Jamie Cook Eddie Newton Paul Tait Matt Murphy - Derek Lilley Steve Anthrobus

Subs: Pal Lundin, Neil McGowan, Simon Weatherstone, Nigel Jemson and Robert Folland.

Burnley: Paul Crichton - Dean West Steve Davis Mitchell Thomas Ian Cox - Paul Smith Graham Branch Paul Cook Lenny Johnrose - Micky Mellon Andy Payton

Subs: Ian Wright, Paul Weller, Alan Lee, John Mullin and Ronnie Jepson.

Att: 7,549 including 2,121 from East Lancashire.

Spot on.

Add in the fact that Bristol City aren't pulling up any trees and I fully expected us to have a right good go and come away with a victory. Some fans expectation seems to have lowered and I'm not sure why. There are certain games I think we will lose, maybe convincingly, like Sheffield Utd, Burnley, Leeds, WBA away and one or two others. I'm not really expecting too much against those sort of sides at home either - a point will be a huge result for us. Others like Sunderland and Middlesbrough etc will be tough but away draws and the odd win shouldn't be out of the question. As for the rest - Bristol City included - I will be going in to those, just like I went in to every L1 game, expecting a positive result. Wont always happen but we can't go into these feeling we are in any way inferior.

I will always vote an Oxford United win, but I don't expect that. Against Burnley, as long as we put a good fight and don't get spanked I'll be OK with whatever the result. I'll still be miserable if we lose, cloud 9 if we win and a bit Meh!, if we draw. The reaction to a result never changes for me. Although to snatch a draw from the jaws of a defeat can be quite satisfying.

Ah I vote what I expect, not what I want. So I might vote a Burnley win here, or maybe a draw.
