Home Match Day Thread 28/02/2026 - MDT: Oxford United v West Bromwich Albion

I’m pretty relaxed to be fair.

What will be will be…and that’s relegation for us I think.
I’ve watched us 30 odd times and it’s no secret we are inept.
I think Cam was just delusional or trying to keep the spirits up in his last interview….
The championship was a step too far for us at this stage.
We have a huge amount of building to do as a club in the new stadium before our next visit to the 2nd tier.

I don’t like talking about ‘must win games’, especially in February, but only a win will give us any chance, realistic or otherwise, of avoiding relegation. Hopefully the players realise that as well and throw off the shackles! I’m still convinced that with a positive approach we’re good enough for this division:

Oxford United 3 - West Bromwich Albion 0.

COME ON YOU YELLOWS!!

Watching Droylsden v Cockfosters in the FA Vase QF this afternoon. Will be keeping a nervous eye on events at the Kassam but will be nice to watch a game stress-free. COYY.

Having checked, I'm evidently wrong. Not even sure where I got that from. It's not even mentioned in the etymology!
The traditional aria at the end of an opera isn’t it? Though female opera singers aren’t that fat these days

I couldn’t face the 6-hour round trip today, sadly, but as well as struggling with a horrific sore throat and nasty cough, my energy and enthusiasm for this are low.
I can only see a negative result…. I do hope I’m proved wrong in deciding not to go and a positive outcome gives us all a good kick up the backside.

I thought I once heard it in US election coverage, where it was said (by a US commentator) that an election wasn't over until the "fat lady" (Texas) had sung (i.e. the Texas result had come in). But I can find absolutely nothing online about this. So maybe I dreamt it.

A good way to take my mind off the game anyway!

Must admit got a bit of a sick feeling about this game , reminds me of my youthful optimisim when we only needed to beat Watford away and Sheff weds at home to get our Div one survival going again ...lost both 0-3 and I , we , were crushed.

Not unhappy with the team (if only because playing Brannagan and Vaulks together as a two again would’ve been the definition of insanity). Glad Cam is fit, glad Donley is back (again).

We have GOT to find a way to be better with the football, maintain coherent possession and mount more structured attacks. Our record this season shows that we’re actually ok when there is no real pressure on us to attack the game and we can set up with limited ambition to nick a draw. Unfortunately that will see us relegated if we can’t ally that to actually being able to competently attack games against teams around us.

Pretty much win or bust today. Which, as others have pointed out in this thread, is somewhat liberating as it really doesn’t give us much choice but to go for it in some form. Anything other than at least 7 points from our next three home games (as long as that includes wins over WBA and Blackburn) and it’s probably done. Now or never!

Emakhu was excellent when he came on - Makosso has also been good so can’t see why he’s been dropped to bench - Will needs to get to the ball rather than push shove etc the defenders

Isn't Makosso in the starting 11? Looks like it to me...
