Good. Get some money in for him and find a better more mobile alternative.

Not the same since his injury.
I don’t think he’s gonna suit the style of play we are gonna strive for. Same goes for Helik. On the ball he isn’t great and is slow. If we can pickup a younger, ball playing centre half as a replacement, I think we will end up the winners in this transfer.

Agreed.

Done well for what we’ve needed since he’s been here but think will see us evolve as a side.

Helik is a bit better on the ball for me but agree with you. Both susceptible.

Helik and Brown will both look better against League One forwards. I don’t think the new signing is going to be any quicker or more mobile. We should have kept Makosso if we wanted that.

I agree there is a lack of pace at the back, hopefully it’s less exposed at the level we are going to be playing, but it does make our first summer signing a slightly strange one.

Makosso wasn't worth the money.

I very much agree they’ll look great in league one. But whilst they’re in their prime and the money is there, I think as a club we’d better of using that money to get younger players more suited to the way we want to play in the coming years.

Say we do go back up with Ramsey, Brown and Helik will not cut it. There value will be lower and we would miss out on a year of development for two younger players.

It’s one hell of a gamble to write this year off for younger players who may come good. They might not or they might move on before we get the full benefit from them, obviously get a fee then though.

The thing with planning well ahead in club football is things change, you have to look after the present.

I think you have to do both. You have to build a squad capable of getting out of League One (via the top-of-the-table route, preferably) but then you also need at least the basis of a squad to compete in the Championship without a total rebuild, which I think is where we went wrong in 2024

And brown will get found out at league 1 level against any players with pace, especially if Ramsey wants us to play front foot football.

Done well for us and a nice bloke but don’t think Ramsey will see him as his kind of Centre Back.

Agree.

The spine has to be capable of playing at a higher level, our two CB’s are two that I would say are okay league 1 players but I see our two centre backs as players who offer us no route to build from the back & it makes us easy to play against as they know with a organised press then the ball is getting launched long.

Understand what you’re saying, which is what makes the signing of Kent slightly bizarre unless we already know Helik is on his way? We could supplement the existing personnel in that position with a younger and speedier alternative but as things stand have gone for more of the same in terms of what we already have.

Brown has been dependably average for a while, but hasn’t been at his best for over a year. I watched him at times and felt he looked fed up and a bit moody, so perhaps we and he need the change.

I honestly don’t think we should be struggling to replace Helik or Brown. Both very much L1 players. Good ones, but you can’t play any sort of expansive football with them.

I think Kent is quite good on the ball but not very fast. So a slight upgrade on Helik and Brown in aspects relevant to how *we might play.

Brown is faster than Helik. He was part of a defence that got promoted from league one, unless his legs have gone like Moores then I think he will be fine.

Fine , I would say outstanding in League One.
Amazed how the constant churn of players for no good reason does seem the modern way.
Brown one who would be a massive part of any success we will have this season.

I wouldn't want to see him go - and hope the club wouldn't.

If there's truth in the report, which says 'Brown has quietly become available in the transfer market', I suspect it might be the player who's asked to move on. Pure speculation obviously, but that makes more sense from where I'm sat.

Fair enough if it is the case.

We'd really have our work cut out to replace him though.

I mean that’s the problem, since his injury they have gone, and he shouldn’t be a starting defender for us.

I've not seen evidence of that. Looks the same to me
I did last season, looked like was running in treacle at times and cost us on more than one occasion with poor decision making because he’d lost a yard.

I said this when we got promoted but we needed to be ruthless in the squad building we did and we wasn’t and that’s why we went down last year, we thought the same would be enough and it wasn’t.

Oh for another Shotton Briggs pairing , someone who don’t take prisoners they destroy them !
