But the poor man couldn't shrug his shoulders. No!
All lightweights, the lot of them.
It’s down to the Continental mentality…. Never overdo things, take a nice long lunch, if things get tough, just smile, shrug your shoulders and take it easy.![]()
I think you will find he is not everyone's favourite.Still no thank you from everyone’s favourite Stanley Mills…
I'll just draw your attention to the following sentence: "I'll be doing everything I can off the pitch to help the boys everyday in the training centre." So I'm not sure how much trust to place in anything else he has to say. Particularly as he's now admitted that he's been planning his latest move for the past two months. [Edit] Although maybe he wasn't entirely speaking the truth about that!View attachment 37493

Where? As I said ive not seen itWhen he said he spoke to Bristol City a couple of months ago?
But hopefully by a January/next season, the costs associated with with the stadium will more onto another spreadsheet, so would this have an impact between the 65% and 50% target?Ill explain again for the hard of hearing and kip
Yes, in theory Erick can inject enough qualifying equity to get us out of the embargo. Lovely. Problem solved. Pop the champagne.
Except it isn’t solved at all.
This season Oxford get the temporary 65% allowance because we’ve just come down from the Championship. If turnover is £10m, that gives us £6.5m of base SCMP room.
Next season, if we’re still in League One, that drops to the normal 50%.
Same £10m turnover suddenly gives you just £5m.
So if the wage/manager/agent cost base hasn’t come down and turnover hasn’t gone up, congratulations: you’ve spent millions in equity getting compliant this year only to discover the hole is even bigger next year.
If costs were around £9.5m, you’d be looking at roughly a £4.5m gap next season before player trading. At 50%, that could mean needing around £9m of fresh qualifying equity just to stand still.
And then what? Do it again the year after? And again after that?
At some point even the “just write another cheque” strategy meets basic arithmetic.
Owner equity can bridge a gap. It cannot magically make an unsustainable cost base sustainable.
The long-term answer is painfully boring because it’s also painfully obvious:
Increase turnover.
Reduce wages and other SCMP costs.
Everything else is buying time with somebody else’s cheque book.
Where? As I said ive not seen it
Nothing to do with the stadiumBut hopefully by a January/next season, the costs associated with with the stadium will more onto another spreadsheet, so would this have an impact between the 65% and 50% target?
Well, you do wonder how different they can be to our academy players, apart from they are with a higher placed/ranked football club than ours, but that can change in terms of their overall ability!Great to have another body in but I'm always sceptical of academy loanees, especially ones for who it's their first loan like Luka.
Hope he proves me very wrong!
I will go view when I have 5 minutes thank youIn his joining interview with Bristol City.

Although the 100% uplift could well do.Nothing to do with the stadium
I thought that current costs (architects, legal, planning fees etc) towards the stadium were part of the 65%, but if the oral hearing is positive news e.g. we get the green light, then those c costs can be moved to a separate spreadsheet/project?Nothing to do with the stadium
Architects, planning consultants, lawyers working on the stadium, planning fees and stadium construction costs do not get added to the SCMP cost figure.I thought that current costs (architects, legal, planning fees etc) towards the stadium were part of the 65%, but if the oral hearing is positive news e.g. we get the green light, then those c costs can be moved to a separate spreadsheet/project?
If this isn’t the case, is the 65% target this season just purely down to players, managers and coaching staff wages, plus agent fees (not sure about these) ?
That's ok then. Just the kind of person I want alongside me in a team.Nobody says he didn't discuss with the club. Ultimately it's his body and short earning career, he's not a slave
Are you happy to move to Bristol? In other news, I'm looking for a new baby sitter if anyone has any recommendations.
I don’t necessarily disagree with your sentiment but a profit on Joe Taylor at £3m is struggle with. He is at his level
I've seen him play against us three times (live or on TV) and he's looked really dangerous each time. Harris couldn't compare last night, O'Donkor looked like he would get to his level at some point.I’m not sure you can surmise that he is at his level. Sure, he hasn’t had an impact in the Championship yet, after 20 games or so, but at 23 I think it’d be fair to say he has time on his side.
A goal ratio of 1 in every two and a half games over the last 3 years is in league 1 is a very handy return.
Anyway that is enough on Taylor, but it was just an example of the sort of business we should have been doing, rather than the likes of Prelec, Romeny and Bradshaw.
Same with cyclists, Tyler Hamilton ground down eleven of his teeth to the root after crashing in Stage 1 of the 2002 Giro. He fractured his shoulder and head of the arm. Albeit on a lot of drugs, he raced a further 2,000+ miles over the next few weeks and finished second on GC. Talk about “flogging it”.
I'll defer to your superior knowledge on this stuff @Billyox but my (maybe wrong) understanding was that for every £1 invested to meet SCMP another £1 had to go on improving infrastructure etc. The idea behind these rules was that the EFL could make sure that owners were investing in long term stability and not just paying player costs. Once the stadium gets formal approval then the costs that get put into it count towards the infrastructure part of the SCMP.Architects, planning consultants, lawyers working on the stadium, planning fees and stadium construction costs do not get added to the SCMP cost figure.
SCMP is basically about players, the first team manager and agents. The stadium is a completely separate issue
I think the potential Billy is that when you have a commitment to fund a project like the stadium with significant expenditure in that plan you can take 50% of that against your SCMP costs. It’s not new investment but planned as part of longer term plan. The bit to tidy up will be in the relationship between OUFC and the stadium companyArchitects, planning consultants, lawyers working on the stadium, planning fees and stadium construction costs do not get added to the SCMP cost figure.

No, that was the original misunderstanding.I'll defer to your superior knowledge on this stuff @Billyox but my (maybe wrong) understanding was that for every £1 invested to meet SCMP another £1 had to go on improving infrastructure etc. The idea behind these rules was that the EFL could make sure that owners were investing in long term stability and not just paying player costs. Is that right?
The stadium spend itself doesn’t generate an SCMP credit. You can’t say “we’re spending £10m on the stadium, therefore £5m can be set against SCMP.”I think the potential Billy is that when you have a commitment to fund a project like the stadium with significant expenditure in that plan you can take 50% of that against your SCMP costs. Just to play devils advocate here, because I have time.
I wonder if after our relegation Preston and BCFC were allowed to talk to Mills and BDK perhaps a deal was struck with Mills and something close with BDK.
Then the embargo hits and we as a club backtrack, either we want to keep them or want more to remove the embargo.
This is where things get messy, was anything promised, perhaps we will never know but if it was ,you can understand why those two players are going to be pissed off.
Rather than accept it,both Mills and BDK have made their feelings known to the club, they may not have gone about it in the right way ,in our eyes but do they have a point?
Should they be vilified the way they are?
If we were offered a promotion at work to move to another branch on twice the salary and we were promised it by the MD and we are just waiting to sign the paperwork then they say sorry it’s off. The job is still there but we have to remain in our old job and say nothing although we probably won’t give 100% or do we get HR involved and say that job is rightfully ours, put us on gardening leave until the management decides
The reality is we all have different pain thresholds, so what appears an inconvienience to one person appears to be life altering to another.Indeed, but apparantly he should of played through the pain & potentially lose the use of his arm according to some![]()
