Say Kai Andrews does come in when Greg Leigh goes, will Coventry be paying 100% of his wages?

I understand some have suggested the rules state that we can’t pay extra to his wages, but can pay his current wage.

Anyone know for definite?

I don't think anyone knows anything for definite, but my understanding (guess; it's a guess) is that we can contribute a % to his wages, but that he can't be earning more than while he on loan with us than he would if he were still at Coventry.

Greg Leigh - To me he is a very valuable squad player. If not starting, then every time I would have him on subs bench.
You can play him in a lot of positions, which firstly cover for injuries, direct swap, and can be used depending on the score/opposition - losing 1-0, stick him up front for last few minutes, more chance of him getting a goal than Mark Harris.
Winning 1-0 but we are facing an aerial bombardment stick him in defence to keep heading those balls away.
It was a big mistake dropping him from squad last January.

Something is happening, maybe another one out and another striker in as well. Could it yet be an exciting transfer window

So Greg Leigh looks like he’s gone, but who else leaves?

That doesn't make any sense and would completely invalidate the purpose of the embargo.

You could, hypothetically, pay £12k a week to cover the wage of an Arsenal kid on loan for a season but couldn't pay £2k a week for a one year contract for Jordan Thomas.

It would be completely illogical and ill-thought out by the EFL.

It is a fair possibility.

Imagine it’ll be an “IOU one”. We pay nothing until Jan then either sign permanently or commit to a larger loan fee from January onwards to cover wages in lieu

But if hes got a better deal and along term deal we would all be off ,if you've got a nice job in the NHS at 29 youre going no where until your 59 that doesn't happen when youre a pro footballer you get 3 year contracts in league 1 ,not a premier league player like our boss on £250,000 a week yes £12 million a year i love Leigh ❤️ but he's looking after himself

Thats my understand too. You can't pay a loan fee to the club or make any financial agreements outside of the wage contribution. And this is only for half a season with no formal agreements in place to extend it.

There are strict rules regarding offsetting payments to a period after the embargo is lifted. And as all signings will need to be ratified by the EFL, it would be a dangerous game to play if we did as you suggest.

That's true, but do you think we couldn't have kept Vaulks if we wanted to?
I don't think we had the choice.
There was a financial benefit to moving him on
I agree that it was probably a deal that suited all parties at the time. However, as with Greg Leigh, we're only an injury or suspension away from making compromises in these positions or elsewhere.

The thing is though there are already a couple of other restrictions in play, like it only being for a maximum of six months and not including any fees that usually come with loan signings. So it's not like we can just go out and sign any loan player.

Also there's the caveat that all incomings are "subject to financial requirements", so the EFL could quite easily turn down a £12k-a-week loan for not following the spirit of the rules.

Plus the exact wording used is that the club "cannot pay additional wages on top of the salary the player receives at their parent Club", which doesn't read as 'the club can't pay any of his wages'.

This is the bit that many are overlooking. Any deal would need to be scrutinised and ratified by the EFL to ensure that its financially viable, within the letter of the law AND the spirit of the law.

That's why we can't agree to pay a fiver upfront and £1m in January.

Watch Preston sack their manager and bring in Rowett as the replacement. Mills gonna end up having Vietnam flashbacks

That AI picture looks like it’s been taken from the cover of Norman Mailers The Naked and the Dead which is set during the Second World War in the pacific theatre, as the age of the tank would suggest, so no Vietnam flashbacks for Stanley.

Building a relegation clause into your contract at Oxford and then signing for Tranmere is a bit odd.
Quite often the signing on fee can be quite substantial, and I think its whete he originally came from .And maybe he's been offered a coaching position as well for later. But he will also be class in league 2

We can’t contribute financially at all to any loan players who come in while under embargo.

Just a thought on loans

Have we been paying too much to the parent clubs over the past few seasons and have we been at fault for not getting enough for our players going out?

It’s a subject I’ve pondered on over the years but somehow haven’t brought it up on here.
For instance last year did we get Will Lankshear, Konak , Peart Harris because we were willing to pay more than other Championship clubs?
Also as you go through the transfer window do you have to fork out more because you are desperate to get players in. It could work the other way in that parent clubs are desperate to get their players game time elsewhere and they might accept a smaller amount to their salary.

Anyone have any idea

Not really - it’s where he’s from, he was born in the Wirral, he’ll get first team football and might become part of their coaching set up - makes sense.
I absolutely get why he’s signed for Tranmere, and agree it’s a good move for him.

But I’ve always seen relegation clauses as a belief that a player belongs at the step they are relegated from, and it being used as a way to remain at that step with another club. Maybe I’m completely misunderstanding the motive behind putting that clause in.
