Its more the impact that would have on Mills if we let Greg go but not him - an already unhappy player seeing that is only going to become more unsettledYou don’t need to be a genius to see the difference between letting Mills/BDK leave and Greg Leigh surely
Are they? Its more the impact that would have on Mills if we let Greg go but not him - an already unhappy player seeing that is only going to become more unsettled
Didn't Leigh have a move lined up that fell through, while we followed through with the Rooskens deal as his replacement?I get that football is football, but Greg was also treated harshly by the club last season in my view too.
Given we let Vaulks go, I'd be surprised if we said that to anyoneIt depends who else, if anyone, has been told "we're not letting you go because we not letting anyone go".
But not if the other left back at the club is better. Currie is better than Leigh.I think people forget, incredibly easily, just how good Greg was in this league.
He was our top scorer I the Championship first season!
A player who quite simply should be in a League 1 team.
Given that Mills has his father sat on his shoulder like a parrot giving him his pearls of wisdom who knows what his reaction might beAre they?
Leigh hasn't played for us despite being fit since 24 January.
Mills is a first team regular and first choice under normal circumstances.
If Mills can't see why we'd be happy to let Leigh go and not him then blimey.
Football is the only constant.Nope. I'm lost on this one. Could you please simplify it for me?

I agree - putting it into a more regular work context, it would be like an individual who is busy in an important role watching someone else whose role has become unnecessary at work moving on to another firm and a new recruit (Cov lad) being taken on to help support their busy role - perfectly sensible. Are they?

Yeah, but he was a bit of a Planck.Football is the only constant.

Trouble is good blokes don’t always get your team to the top.I was hoping we could find a role for Leigh. Not just because he is a good bloke, but because he is a physical presence in both penalty areas, scores goals, and well….he is a good bloke.
I’m not bothered about Rooksen, BDK and perhaps mills as much, because I just don’t feel they have delivered to the same extent…

Yes Greg was decent in this league two years ago, but things have changed, teams have got better.
The harsh reality here is that Currie is our first choice left back and what people tend to forget about Greg was he was great at going forward but defensively not so sound , in fact Brown was preferred to him a lot of the time, it’s only when Brown was switched to centre back that Greg became prominent.
Greg must know that his only chance of playing is if Currie gets injured, now as we’ve seen with Kioso he could get a chance and take it.
But as has been suggested Greg has been offered a decent contract elsewhere why wouldn’t he go.
But like with all of us they get younger and we get olderHave teams got better in just two years? From what I have seen so far, admittedly only a couple of games, it seems a very similar standard.
We weren’t very good two years ago, let’s not forget that without Murphy putting in extremely good performances we wouldn’t have even made the playoffs.
There are going to be some very good teams in this division. If we want to be in the top two, we are going to need better players than we currently have in our squad.
I can see us being about mid table with what we have, but we need 4/5 very good signings in January to give us a chance of making the playoffs.
Don’t forget how much better we were than pretty much everyone else in the 3 months we had Manning. We weren’t very good two years ago, let’s not forget that without Murphy putting in extremely good performances we wouldn’t have even made the playoffs.

If Mills thinks he can start in the Championship, and sign one lucrative contract, is that power to him or is he a rat?
I'm not saying that you've used these words about Mills, but others have. And it feels like hypocrisy to me.
I would say that if Leigh feels that he's good enough to play in League One then he should be fighting hard to replace Currie and do the best for Oxford.
I think Leigh had as bigger impact as any when we survived the champ first time. I would argue our first 2 lines of defence, attack and midfield got us in more trouble than our back line over the last 2 years.Trouble is good blokes don’t always get your team to the top.

Is this why he’s been having dentistry work done? The difference for me is the unfortunate situation Leigh found himself in through no fault of his own last season and squad balance.
Leigh was the only fit player not to be registered last January, what a kick in the teeth that must have been. If memory serves me correctly it was also at a time when Jamaica could still qualify for the World Cup. He’d have been wanting to play regular football / at least be in the squad for World Cup reasons.
From a squad balance perspective we also have decent left back cover. We have less cover in other areas. So if he moves on we may be able to Staff Up in an area that more obviously needs cover.
Whilst Mills / BDK may not appreciate it if Leigh moved on (when they’ve been kept) I have a sneaky feeling most of the squad will be more understanding re Leigh’s position.
By the way I say all of the above whilst still thinking he should be our 2nd choice left back. I’m just not sure he’s viewed that way by the club.
Given we let Vaulks go, I'd be surprised if we said that to anyone
Vaulks had a relegation clause in his contract so we couldn’t stop him going.Given we let Vaulks go, I'd be surprised if we said that to anyone
Is poorer defensively than other options at the club & that has been proved time and time again.I was hoping we could find a role for Leigh. Not just because he is a good bloke, but because he is a physical presence in both penalty areas, scores goals, and well….he is a good bloke.

Are people still swallowing that January line then?I would like to think that, come January, we will be positioned in the play-offs, or very nearly, so that we are targetting sigings that can get us over the edge and achieve promotion. Optimistic as that may sound, that would be the best financial option for the lead up to the new stadium. We need Championship football.
If we are scratching around for the likes of previous windows then questions would have to be asked of the ambitions of the club. (and of the recruitment team)
Only 4 months to find out!Are people still swallowing that January line then?

Might be a nice bloke & pop up with a few goals but the defensive area of his game leaves a lot to be desired, I dare say even brown would be preferable to him at left back as has been the case previously.
I disagree we require 2 years of premier league football to fund the new stadium & get back to becoming a sustainable football club & reducing high levels of debt we currently have .I would like to think that, come January, we will be positioned in the play-offs, or very nearly, so that we are targetting sigings that can get us over the edge and achieve promotion.
