At one time it was absolutely between us and Sheff Wed, with Sheff Wed offering a wad of a signing on fee. Not sure what changed, and to be fair, we were well in the hunt. What a midfield that would have been, Wintle, Collins, McDonnell, Brannagan.

Surprised I’ve not seen you mention it to the Preston forum that he’s been in training funniest thing is there are some of their fans suggesting we do a swap deal while being under a registration embargo

They can blame the EFL all they want but they oversaw us spending 114% of our revenue and fees on players who are distinctly average.

If we don’t go up this season then there will be a mass exodus of high earners. I think that much is certain and our assets will leave for much less a year on.

The problem is we signed these players on money they won’t get elsewhere now, so as they have a contract we are stuck with at least part of that wage. It’s why I am not very sympathetic to players, who are also contracted, who want to leave for less money than we think we can get for them, they signed contracts, if we have to honour them then so do they.

Yes and that was absolutely obvious in that display against Leyton Orient. A few wins in friendlies was good but in our first proper test we looked as flat as last season although we did see more of the ball. And with no obvious goal threat and Harris still stinking the place out we will find ourselves being beaten by worse sides than Leyton Orient this season.

Pretty sure if the embargo goes on beyond January we will have more to worry about than Ed Waldron

It was poor. But it's really hard to tell how we'll do this season. I definitely wouldn't make predictions based on a 1st round League Cup game. Or the first few games of the season for that matter. It'll take a while for Ramsey to embed his ideas with the squad.
