Whilst that is mostly true, what it is ignoring is the Football League turned down an offer of (I think) 25% of PL TV money annually because it thought it could do better. It then signed a deal with ITV Digital for a load of money, only for them to collapse financially and plunge FL clubs into crisis. If the FL had actually taken the PL offer originally then some trickledown would have happened.

Also there is a huge body of economic evidence which shows it doesn't work. Wealth at the top creates asset bubbles which stop those on modest incomes (but increasingly higher incomes) of buying into them.

If this is the case, have we got our hands tied? What if he gets 20 g/an and better clubs who would offer more money are after him? Will we be tied to selling to Preston for the apparent agreed price?

I don't think a 'transfer agreed for January' is a thing. If Stan does well this autumn bigger and better clubs than Preston will be interested.

I'd be surprised if it's a formal 'we'll sell him to you in January'.

If he sets the league alight for 6 months, he could have bigger suitors and we could command a bigger price. If Mills has 4 goals and half a dozen assists by then, Preston probably looks a little underwhelming to him at that stage, too.

If he sub-consciously drops off, Preston might no longer want to part with whatever fee has supposedly been agreed.

I'd hope that at most we've said to them that they'll be front of the queue in Jan, but that there are no guarantees.

Agreed. I think they will try and renegotiate then but it wont be an agreed thing now and if he plays a blinder then others will come in for him.

That said, I do take @Pgyellow point that he could be holding back not wanting to get injured or could equally go all out hoping for a top end deal. Either way, it will be playing on his mind.

unless its a buy and loan back with no charges I dont think this will happen. Why sell now for 2 when in jan it could be 4 or 5.

Seems to be that the PFA is saying that the financial sustainability regulations are essentially a salary cap, which has previously been knocked back.

Popped over to the PNE forum. Don't get me wrong. I think Stan's a really good champ level player but I'm a bit surprised at how obsessed they seem with the whole saga. I mean, it's hugely important for us given our situation but if they were to miss out, would it be a massive problem for them?

There’s echoes on there of our forum over many seasons. I.e. being short positionally and undercooked etc. They’ve also had their captain walk out under a cloud making digs their way.

I doubt any of them know much about Mills but just want some good news where the squad is concerned.
