Murphy has a medal 🏅 & is a winner 🏆.
To be fair there's zero comparison between the 2 players .

BDK isn’t a Championship player because he was injured and he didn’t win a play off final in League One, a level he has never had to play at. It makes sense now you’ve explained it.

6th most creative midfielder last season league-wide, despite missing half of it.

Murphy is a winger so quite right, no comparison to be had.

I get that BDK isn’t particularly popular right now but jeez do people have a blind spot for how important he was to us not totally embarrassing ourselves last year.

The blind spot people have because BDK hasn’t played in pre season is ridiculous.

Like you say, 6th most creative midfielder league wide & some of our fanbase are making out he’s another El-Mizouni.

A player we are lucky to have & some of our fans think he’s dispensable.

Lucky to have a player that hasmt played for 7 months and can't get match fit ,jeez that's a new way of looking at footballers .

He is costing the football club alot of money to do nothing.

That is a more understandable frustration, particularly over pre season where excuses look horribly thin. But don’t let it blur the line of whether he’s any good because he wasn’t just that, he was statistically among the best.

Some of these predictions are a little low ball. 9 of the starting XI, would probably get in the overwhelming majority of teams in this division. Genuinely, apart from LW and CF, I think every other team would snap your hand off for the rest.

Even then, plenty of teams would love Harris/Emakhu at this level.

Agree around the depth, that’s an obvious point and where AR will have to be tread the line really well with selections and in game subs. The JPT (or whatever it is now) can be discarded completely. Play the 18’s/21’s.

Throw in an international break or two in the first half of the season as a chance to recharge, followed by the promised lifting of the issue and things are not ALL doom and gloom.

Thoroughly impressed by AR. I bet he is targeting the very top as an outcome. I am fully behind him and this team and even the tricky start we have won’t put me off.

Consider me firmly off the fence!

Underestimating hugely the quality in this league.

And honestly, the revisionism on this forum is hilarious. When he was playing, it was a case of which Premier League club BdK would go to. He was sensational on his game, in the league above. He understandably got left totally bereft as the ball sailed over his head on our way to another defeat.

He contributed the square root of f**k all in the grand scheme, but that’s no reflection on his ability. Easily upper Champ capable.

Our fans are so quick to big up absolute mediocrity and to write off genuine talent.

I think you are underestimating the quality of our starting eleven.

What position do you envisage us competing for?

I didn’t mention BDK, he is fabulous footballer. I expect him to go and Mcdonell and Brannagan to do really well. If BDK somehow stays then that will only strengthen how decent I think we are.

When you talk about underestimating other teams, do you think other teams look at our back 4/5 and underestimate them, because that’s a fabulous base with some brilliant players going forward.

There's no doubt Bdk has the ability to play championship football but has he got the right attitude that's would be my concern if I was looking to sign him.
As a manager you have to look at would they fit in the dressing room some times having a players with less ability but better attitude is the way to go.

I've seen absolutely hundreds & hundreds of players for Oxford United over the years.
I can categorically tell you BDK, he's not in legend category. He's not in a brilliant team player category.
He's not in match winner category.
He's not in Mr solid category.
In fact I didn't see a lot to be honest, he only played 27 times. For me he's another one of those signings we've had a bad habit of making over the last few seasons....

What quality?
Exactly, this league is dire. If you’ve watched it closely the last 2 seasons we’ve been out it, you would know that. Comparing it to the season we got out of it with Derby and Pompey, the quality difference is night and day.

Lincoln won the league, Bradford and Stevenage got playoffs. If that doesn’t tell you something then nothing in life will get you optimistic. Nevermind if you actually watched the playoffs and saw the limited quality on show.

People are doing the old thing of there’s all this big clubs in the league it must be good.

I don’t think anyone has claimed he is a legend, but he is a good player.

I think the aspect of our Champs transfer business being overlooked is the #teamslikeoxford factor. You can tell by Tigers infamous list that we were targetting good players, but clearly those players were choosing other bigger clubs over us. We seemed to rarely land a player if us and any other club in the champs were linked. This aspect was skewed even further when clubs like Wrexham were dropping silly money. So we end up looking at 3rd or 4th choice options...the alternative is we blow big wages on one or two to get them in and leave ourselves short in areas of the squad.

If you mean declining to provide evidence (in terms of money) to avoid an embargo was not part of a plan by the management I'm sure you are right; something surprised them and slammed the brake on.

The sudden change makes perfect sense in 2 scenarios: a. Erick was unaware of the requirement to provide cash* to cover the required season's expenditure, possibly because the Judicial Review was not binned but went to verbal review, b. Erick was aware but unable to get the necessary cash*, probably because it would be family cash.

* All the methods @Billyox mentioned require that money (cash) be taken out of circulation and placed somewhere, making that money useless - a leading oligarch family could make a lot of income from having over £10m at hand for 6 months.

What the process was to make the decision to stop spending and accept the embargo I have no idea but it's the only rational explanation of the sudden turnaround in attitude to spending.

Where's Tim? He could tell us.

Something also surprised them a year ago when the money taps were very suddenly turned off.

Strange coincidence…..

This BDK v Murphy debate.

Let’s nor rewrite history here, as I recall for a lot of the first year with us Murphy was injured. He had the odd really good game , one v Charlton I recall.
Murphy
Under Manning he didn’t play much/ was injured.
At that point fans were singing “What a waste of money” at him
Under Des Murphy feels wanted and produces the goods.
Moves to Pompey does pretty well in the games he plays but is injury prone.
BDK
Gets injured very early on a fateful trip abroad.
He comes back into a team low on confidence and struggling in the Championship .
Shows glimpses of what he can do,
We have yet to see what he is capable of in League 1

Hopefully he will buy into what Ramsey is trying to achieve , as an outstanding midfielder himself Ramsey has a lot to offer BDK

You’ve really got to drop this. We spent way more than a club of our revenue should have done, and you think we should have spent more?!
Absolutely we should have spent less ,more to our means but when you look how few players we have worth money the recruitment was shocking .We were selling players 15 years ago for £3 million per player per season ,after 2 seasons in the championship someone should have been worth £10 million. Vaulks ,Phillips ,Bradshaw ,Dembele ,the list goes on so poor. That's part whats put us in this mess ,the defence kept us up the first year with Rowetts help they scored more goals and out performed our postion. Harris is our main striker I like the guy but really if thats the best after 2 years in the championship shoocking ,we are certainly paying the price now

The transfer window we came up killed us, it meant last summer when we tried to correct we had a hugely bloated squad. Just the number of players we had on the books meant we must have paid a lot in wages last season.

The first three lines are true.

But it's very obvious he has a lot of ability even at Championship level. If he stays and his head is right, he would be one of the best players in League One.

Big ifs.

Plus - Foley, Bodell, Jeffrey, McGrogan , Duncan, Burton ....practically a whole side home grown

Yeah and look how sh*t we were in that mid to late 70’s period under Mick Brown and Bill Asprey. Crowds were down to 3,000. Andy Kingston and Jason Seacole were two more home grown in that period but it wasn’t at all memorable on the pitch - a depressing period post the Gerry Summers era and before the arrival of Greaves and ultimately Jim Smith. It didn’t take Smith long to weed out the home grown dross with only really Thomas, Brock and Jones surviving.

That’s a different conversation around a different point. Kip saying we didn’t spend is a ridiculous line of argument

Yes, I hate the phrase Bargain Bucket which he continues to use.
You can’t say we haven’t spent money, you could say we haven’t spent that money wisely.
What Kip needs to realise is that most clubs are getting players in who may not live up to expectations.
Look at the very top Manchester United and Chelsea have been guilty of spending huge amounts on what have turned out to be poor players. Now compare that to Brighton and Brentford, they are the clubs we should aspire to, but even they won’t get it right all of the time

He's not saying that though, nor was he saying we should have spent more. He's saying we didn't spend on the right things. At least, reading his words that's how it appears to me.

Brian is good but if he’s as great as you say why didn’t he maybe influence a few more games, rather than watching the ball sailing over his head on the way to another defeat?
