I disagree, I don’t think he had a decent whole season for us last season, sure he shown glimpses of what he was capable of but certainly wasn't our best player last season.

Stan was good but he wasn’t amazing, I’d of had Currie ahead of him in the POTY conversation.

If Stan leaves at least we won’t have to hear that god awful chant every single week & we will get a good fee for him, so every cloud and all that.

Good player but not the player everyone makes him out to be, will wish him all the best and after the injury he had he deserves to push on and earn more, it’s a short career.

If he stays he’ll be an asset this season, if he doesn’t then there’s no point losing sleep over it.

I felt he was a credit to us last season. Even when he’s less involved he’s at full tilt doing the defensive work and our best chance of creating anything. I think he could tidy up a bit but the same could be said for Lankshear. Age is on his side for that but in terms of raw materials I think he’s a very valuable asset.

We should be proud of the fact we got this guy as a sought after loan, showed some faith (and took a big risk) in picking him up after his injury and turned him in to someone that’s attracting attention. Next move is to get paid for it appropriately at a time that suits us. We’re nobody’s bitch.

You don’t see Bournemouth with their little stadium handing over Semenyo for pennies or Alex Scott. It would be so easy to go “we’re only Bournemouth, who are we to demand £65/70m+”.

It discredits any opposition by relegating arguments to the realm of personal belief, rather than logical discussion or factual debate. It also closes the door on other's views by claiming that an opinion is somehow unarguable and so closes off any debate. So no, I won't agree to disagree. If someone can't back up their opinion with facts then I reserve the right to consider it invalid.

I'm really struggling to reconcile '£3m is a good fee now' with 'he could be worth £10m+ in a year after a decent season at 14th placed Preston'.

He's had a decent season at a bottom-half Championship outfit already.

We either rate Stan Mills potential enough to warrant a really decent (£5m/£6m+) fee now, or we don't - in which case any hypothetical sell-on is pointless.

There seems to be a mentality thing whereby Preston are seen as a club that can sell a player for big money, but Oxford United are

Apart from the fact this would likely trigger a queue of players asking to leave. Apart from the fact we cannot replace him and have little to no strength in depth. So as a high profile player and you were transferred on Twenty grand a week and got injured are you better off , of course. Lots of little things people don’t take into account like the above.

In recent years, Leicester in 2023, relegated, sold James Maddison followed by mass exodus of players who were allegedly 'committed to the cause'. Same with Southampton in 2023, Leeds, etc. Higher profile examples but same principles. If you're in a team being galvanised into a 'backs against the wall' situation with a 'we're all in it together' mentality and then one of the best players gets sold, wtf do you think some of the other players will think / do??

Sure, if that's the situation then be transparent, we're all big boys, we can take it. Just plain lying or attempting to pull the wool over the eyes of the supporters will only lead to division at every level of the club, which will only speed up and compound the exact situation you're referring to.

I remember one post suggesting it.
If there was a queue of players waiting for a cue to get out, I’m pretty sure the consistent positivity amongst all of the players I hear talking wouldn’t be so marked.

Players deal with uncertainty differently. Stan may well have been considering options for his future, as he doesn’t necessarily trust the rhetoric coming from the board, and saw the attraction in Preston. Fair enough.
BDK seems to be angling for a move too, and has been putting himself ahead of the club for some time now ( that’s not a criticism by the way; he has the right to do so).

Other players may trust in the rhetoric more and see us as a decent shout for a positive, exciting season with the chance of promotion back to the Championship, even without investment in the playing staff in January. I sense people like Currie and Brannagan are in this camp.

Just because someone in the first camp leaves, it doesn’t mean someone in the second automatically jumps ship.

Call me naive, but, even if Mills leaves, which would a shame, I’m feeling pretty positive for what’s ahead. As for BDK? Frankly, I don’t really care.

I want to. Especially when it's being relayed directly by the Chairman in consultation with fan groups, especially when this is backed up by the Manager and players. This doesn't feel like a Reading or Shef Wed situation where the owner's gone completely rogue and is clearly spouting BS to buy time or escape the heat. There seems to be some sort of joined up effort to communicate the situation to the fans, which will make it all the more catastrophic if it turns out to be utter b*****s.
