Think the loan came with a commitment to buy if I remember rightly.. Then we sold him to get the wage off the books it looks like. Still think he would have been a monster in league one but obviously club wanted him gone.

Just looked some say option but the foreign ones say obligation to buy so the way it was handled makes me think it's the latter.

Well one goal and one assist in his time with us was hardly going to increase his value. So a transfer fee deficit makes sense..

There’s got to be more to it. Almost like we ‘shorted’ him by signing him while knowing we could sell him on for a bit more.

We didn’t agree the permanent deal until February, though, did we?

Why did we do that? Presumably so we were down to five loan players…and then never put Ben Davies in the squad anyway.

Now we take a mega financial hit as a result, completely needlessly.

I know we were up against it in the Championship anyway, but this is the kind of stuff that just drives me nuts.

Presumably we’d have never triggered the option if we hadn’t snookered ourselves with too many loans. There was no need otherwise.

Whatever the reason, we essentially set fire to half a million quid. £1m on strikers if you throw Goodwin (£500k I think?) in there too who walked out for nothing this summer.

Didn’t think he was too bad but God knows what Waldron was thinking with this particular negotiation.

I think the earlier post about an unexpected benefit being the time the young players will get in the team is spot on. I do sometimes wonder why we have an academy if the best they can do is develop new players for Oxford City, Brackley, Bicester etc. Either the young players just haven't been good enough, or risk adverse managers and recruiters would rather sign old lags and speculative foreign punts. I guess we will soon find out if they can step up.

Well considering we were still trying to sign players just days before the embargo I'm going to say no, he didn't know. He's also said he didn't know.

Yep but the point is the EFL want a squad to have 23 players so competition is fair and you dont have teams of youth players getting thrashed every week, but then if you have players that are injured for the season surely youd then have to use youth which the EFL dont want.

Sheff Weds and Derby and others had to use plenty of youth during their various embargoes. As I say no reference to injury/suspension in the rules that are published. Perhaps room for discussion on case by case.

So looks like Mills is on his way, he was the most likely of all our players to be sold.
I was expecting this as soon as we got relegated and surprised it’s taken this long.
Anyone who seriously thought we could keep him was in cloud cuckoo land as soon as a decent offer came in
It’s a blow but the club couldn’t turn this down, we get young players in and sell them for a profit, that’s what we do.

If it happens and it looks likely this one is disappointing but even before the embargo we were going to struggle to keep hold of him. This really damages our prospects for the season though with limited cover.. Reset needed. I was trying to be positive too.. Unfortunately now I don't think it will be the last.

If Ramsey was going to walk he would have gone when the embargo was forced on us. He didn’t and got his team in after that.
Now if we lose 3/4 more he might go but he must know Stan was a target
