Transfer Window 26/27 Summer Embargo Window

Is he ready though? We got no natural right winger if Mills leaves. We cant afford to lose BDK as well after Vaulks. We will have absolutely nothing in the middle. Our bench will absolutely stink.
One of few positives in this mini crisis is that we get answers to questions exactly like that. We may not like what we see but for too long we’ve avoided it and pissed money up the wall on a different kind of risk that is far more costly.

It’s very likely if it weren’t for the embargo that Snowden, Bradney, E-W, O’Donkor etc stay hidden and after the success we’ve had with Goodrham, I’d say it’s really poor we haven’t built on that.

Risky in the championship, I hear you say. Any more risky than signing old pros with injuries or foreigners from farmers leagues at obscene cost? Pros and cons but we’ve gone way too far in to one lane and deserted the other. Had we struck a better balance we might not be in an embargo.

I always think a healthy squad is one with 22-or-so robust oven ready players with a blend but supplemented by a few of your best born & bred you intend to give useful minutes to. We aren’t far off that even if the 22/23 oven ready lot are a bit unevenly spread by position, so a little bit of me is pleased about that.

When we sign a player we have to register them as an Oxford player. Any player we have on our books is a permitted player unless they are young and haven't reached the 3 matches played at this level or higher.

Kent must be registered as an Oxford player, or he wouldn't still be here, because the contract would be voided.

Squad registration is a completely different scenario. We could in theory have 40 registered players to the club, but could only select the right amount for the squad between now and January.
Well he cant play so wed still have less than the 23.

But the assumption he is registered to us and therefore will count towards the 23 permitted players total.

There is nothing written in the permitted player rules about players being unavailable through injury or suspension not counting.
Romney is loaned out and counts towards the 23. So I'm sure an injured player will as well.

There is a difference, money spent on the stadium is building an asset whereas money spent on players just vanishes

Stadium money may build an asset, one hopes so. Money spent on players doesn't all vanish unless you recruit and/or train badly - we managed to trade players quite effectively at times.

I was suggesting that there is no end to spending, apart from one or another form of exit.

That is an unfortunate choice of words.
Doesn't matter who is ready and who isn't.
We have what we have. We cannot afford what we already have, the finances are unsustainable, and the embargo is in place because of that. We will finish where we finish. This isn't about automatic promotion, it's about survival.

It seems to me that it is better to support and encourage the younger players and hope that they develop.
Pretty sure it's what Sheffield Wednesday fans did last year

Well ideally player spending gives you assets but it hasn’t done very much in the last few years

Yep but the point is the EFL want a squad to have 23 players so competition is fair and you dont have teams of youth players getting thrashed every week, but then if you have players that are injured for the season surely youd then have to use youth which the EFL dont want.

I dont mind the young players playing at all. Id rather them get a chance to be honest. Definitely gonna need the likes of Bradney and Odonkor to step up. Possibly Golding as well

Agreed. They will need a lot of support and understanding. In the right environment they might develop and thrive.

I believe the expectation was that the only players that might go would be those beyond our control. After Vaulks that's those with an active release clause – BdK and Helik.

So yes, if Mills were to be sold I'd imagine Ramsey wouldn't be too happy.

Absolutely this. The penny hasn't dropped yet for many. Credit cards have to be paid back kids, usually.

Don’t worry Ramsey is ready for any eventuality whether it be Mills or whoever is sold ! The club is not run by mugs anymore and most certainly got back up plans if and when we go under the 23 player embargo rule . Give yourself a good talking to we are in a new era and regime 👍

A thought experiment.
Someone offers £50M for BDK, or Stan Mills, or Cam Bran, or.....
The club would take it, and we would be delighted.
£50K and no-one one would be happy.
So everyone is available, at a price, same as every other club.
In our current circumstances players are worth more to us because we can't replace them.
But everyone has their price and Aaron Ramsey will be aware of that..

I agree. But he came to the club thinking he'd be able to recruit players to give him the best chance of success. A couple of weeks later, we're stuck in an embargo. He chose to stay through all that but losing Stan and not being able to replace him would no doubt rankle.

Fuk me don’t go all soppy and think the season is over before it starts! Have some faith for fuk sake regardless who goes or stays stop the gloom and gloom !

Do you think that Ramsey wasn’t told at his interview that the club may or will be in an embargo situation. You can’t hide that from a future employee, the club could be sued for false misrepresentation if they were aware of the embargo beforehand which is debatable. Heads out of the sand , Gunter joined after the embargo situation!

Aaron also must have thought he had a good chance with players who had Champ experience/upper Lg 1 plus receiving a bid too good to turn down must always be part of the equation. He has also got the support staff in he asked for.

Well considering we were still trying to sign players just days before the embargo I'm going to say no, he didn't know. He's also said he didn't know.

He didn’t know there was going to be an embargo when he joined the club. I think it was after the Aldershot game he made that comment..

Coaching staff did join post embargo cos they are allowed to!

He was told no high profile players will be sold .The owner and chairman need to stick to that narrative .
I don’t think that was said.
Look Ramsey will know before he joined that if someone came in with a decent offer for Stan Mills then he would likely be sold . That is what clubs like ours do.
Now if an offer comes in at say 3.5 million we as a club may not sell but if it’s 5.5 million we probably do sell.
It’s as simple as that and Ramsey will in all likelihood spoken with Stan and said ,give it to Xmas and see where we are , you can always move in January
