So in our 23 we have to include Kent, Roosken and Jin Woo, therefore for a couple of months at least then we have 20 man squad? And for even longer than that we will have at best a 21 man squad (with Roosken and Kent out long term)? Other clubs can leave out long term injuries for the first half of the season but we effectively can’t as we are under a very harsh embargo.

That cant be right really though, as if the EFL want a 23 man squad, whats the point if at least 1 is out all season? Surely we get to choose who we want to register?

23 permitted players has a different category to the squad registration cap rules.

An under 21 with 3 starts at the current level or above would be deemed a permitted player but wouldn't count towards the squad cap figure.

Well club registration and squad registration are two different things. Vaulks going out means that the space opens up for Kent to be registered as an Oxford player this window as one of the 'permitted' 23. We're the only club that has to follow this rule because we're in the embargo.

In terms of squad registration, we're allowed to register a maximum of 22 players, not including goalkeepers or players under 21. But we won't hit that limit because of the club registration rules (as 2 of the permitted 23 are goalkeepers, so we only need to register 21 outfield players), so we might as well register all the senior players we have even if there's a slim chance they'll be ready to play before January.

Actually may not be a good plan to register the long term injured in the 22, as if we do get the embargo lifted between the windows (eg. oral JR and court of appeal both say no, meaning stadium spending can be reclassified as infrastructure) then we might want to have room for a couple of free agents before January

When we sign a player we have to register them as an Oxford player. Any player we have on our books is a permitted player unless they are young and haven't reached the 3 matches played at this level or higher.

Kent must be registered as an Oxford player, or he wouldn't still be here, because the contract would be voided.

Squad registration is a completely different scenario. We could in theory have 40 registered players to the club, but could only select the right amount for the squad between now and January.

I don't think the club had any control over the situation because of Vaulks' relegation release clause (or so Jerome was suggesting on the dub yesterday)

Perhaps I'm a bit naive, but I'd be hoping for a higher release clause than £2.5m for BDK. I can't remember how much we paid for him; Transfermarkt has it at €3m, which, if correct, means that we'd be selling him for what we bought him for.
