The forum would encourage all members to consider joining OxVox during this important moment in our history. See here for more information.
If we improve his value surely we sell him at a profit?Oxford United transfer model.
Sign a player on long contract, so taking liability.
Improve value of player.
Sell him at a loss.
I think you're right. I think he and his agent would have looked for a relatively easy way out and insisted on that in the contract. It might have been the difference between him signing for us or not
Then don’t sign him. It’s all hypothetical of course but if a player insists on being able to leave for less than we paid in the event of relegation, which let’s face it, was always a huge possibility, then it’s crap business acumen to start with, and the player isn’t really showing great commitment to the cause. It might have been the difference between him signing for us or not
How do we know it's less? All we know about BDK's fee is that it was more than the £1m+ we paid for Romeny (BBC Oxford tweet when BDK signed). I'd have thought they'd have said if it was way higher or if he was becoming our first £2m player. Then don’t sign him. If the club did this it would have been very hard to sign players and they would be accused of not backing themselves. The club needed better quality players and to get those Players, they may have needed to agree to less Than perfect terms and back themselves to stay up.Then don’t sign him. I think it was the original report which linked us to him that said just over 2 million right? And I think I may even (mis?)remember them saying it cleared the Romeny figure by a sizeable distanceHow do we know it's less? No Oxford media ever referenced anything about £2m for BDK, but some of the fanbase seem to have settled that it was north of this.
Even transfermarkt doesn't have a guess at a fee which is unusual.
Based on the information available, a release fee of £2.2m alluded to on this forum, would be profit.
Mills is valued at £4mil.
BDK has a release clause of £4.5mil.
This came from someone within the club. Might not be true, but they have no reason to lie.
This might explain why BDK's release clause has yet to be triggered, and why Mills didn't join Preston when they submitted that derisory bid of ~£2mil.
If BDK is serious about improving his position, then he would be better off playing the first half of this season with OUFC.
I think of any of our players then BDK’s is the player that is more likely to go!A few weeks ago Brown was signing for Millwall and not going to Spain, Mills was already in Preston and Cumming was unable to resist the might of MK Dons yet weirdly they all appear to be here.
I said at the end of last season that I think BDK will be with us beyond 1st September and I still think the same.
I think that's the point mateBe surprised if anyone paid £4.5 Million for BDK.
Presumably we might take less than £4.5m though? That's just the figure we have to accept. But BDK hasnt played in 8 months.
Is a team going to chuck £4.5m at someone who is potentially not 100%?
And has less than 30 games experience in the champ?
Possibly.
However many suitors he has now I am sure his options would increase massively if he played 25 games here and was the best CM in League 1 Sept-Jan.
(Thats what im hoping anyway!)
In a previous thread about the departure of Matt Bloomfield, I relayed a conversation with the man himself, what happened and how it happened.Mills is valued at £4mil.

The original reports came from Holland didn't they so likely with prices in euros, so in today's exchange, if it was 2 million euros that would be about £1.7mI think it was the original report which linked us to him that said just over 2 million right? And I think I may even (mis?)remember them saying it cleared the Romeny figure by a sizeable distance
Strange thing for them to lie about; especially when you consider who it was that passed on this information..There is no £4.5m release clause.
Let’s be honest, you’re not always the most reliable source of information- many of your comments are prefaced with ‘’it might not be true but…”.Strange thing for them to lie about; especially when you consider who it was that passed on this information..
Well unless it was BDK himself told me that he has a £4.5mil release clause, you can never be sure that something is 100% true. I'm not going to jump on here and state something as fact, when really, you never know - hence me prefacing what I said with 'it might not be true'Many of your comments are prefaced with ‘’it might not be true but…”.
Maybe, maybe not. I stick by my opinion that he would profit from playing under Ramsay and could still get a deal in January.I think that's very naive.
What if that first half of the season is spent playing for a side that is 15th in League One? How does that improve his lot?
It's a very risky game. The best way for him to progress his career, short and long-term, is to play in the 2nd tier.
Same for Stan Mills, realistically.
I appreciate people don't want to hear it, but if you try and look at it objectively (and if we had stayed up in place of say, Portsmouth) then you wouldn't expect Josh Murphy et al to hang around for half a season.
I don’t post much nowadays, but I named a source and relayed an actual conversation, rather alluding to a conversation with someone ‘who has no reason to lie’, which is always a great bail out.Well unless it was BDK himself told me that he has a £4.5mil release clause, you can never be sure that something is 100% true. I'm not going to jump on here and claim that something is fact, when really, you never know - hence me prefacing what I said with 'it might not be true'
You seem to think that what you have been told is an absolute fact, so I'm happy for you to hang your hat on that..
Is any release fee likely to have been for what we paid? So no minimum release if we remain in the Champ but relegation you can leave but we want our money back. Makes sense and likley how we managed to secure his signature. I had kind of already said goodbye to him when he went for the operation!what
Nope. My point exactly. We must get better at contracts ie release clauses. If we improve his value surely we sell him at a profit?
If near on 10 million quid was offered for these two, transfer embargo or not….i would drive them to their new home.Mills is valued at £4mil.
