Transfer Window 26/27 Summer Embargo Window

Totally agree at the moment I’m not to sure where are goals are coming from?
Thankfully a level lower Mark Harris turns into a goal machine, Dembele stops running into blind alleys and Prelec becomes our secret weapon that teams just won’t be able to handle. We will be fine.

We were never championship status when Des got us promoted and a 17th finish under G R was a false position which proved right and subsequently relegated last season! We have much the same squad as last season apart from one or two and of course Tyler now back .
I don’t rule out loan players coming in to strengthen the squad in which case we have a great chance of a top six finish!
I think we were in the relegation positions for one week throughout the entire season. It certainly wasn't a false position.

What precisely do you mean by false position?

Surely over a season you finish exactly where you deserve to finish.

Are you saying someone at the EFL added up the points total wrongly and no one noticed?

Harris & Prelec have 4 goals over 61 matches so your theory is very unlikely .
But in the mean time we spend the summer chasing a winger that couldn't get a new deal at Cheltenham Town .

It does feel like there are a few people here who, gladly, aren’t used to seeing us getting relegated. They can’t seem to be able to square the circle that in the division below, some of the players who played in games we lost last season would be able to win matches this season.

It has been 20 years since we were last relegated with 3 promotions during that timeframe.

first we need to see if Ramsey can get a tune out of our team....a few unknowns before we saying #pisstheleague
Glad someone else said it.

So much focus on the squad and yet we have absolutely no idea what this man is going to extract from them. If he cannot re-invest these players in to L1 football or is tactically tone deaf, weaker squads with better coaches will do better than us. It's not enough to have decent players in patches of the field if you want to bypass the play offs. All we can do in that regard is prepare the best squad with answers to as many problems as possible. I think we are several key components short.

He turned them down as he knew he could get a club higher.

Bradshaw scored 3 in 18 games in L1, Matt Phillips scored 2 in 16. I see absolutely no reason why Prelec (1 in 12 Championship appearances) can't contribute along with Harris. Though I do think we should be looking for a more natural finisher. That said, until we find some creativity and an ability to feed our strikers, they'll be p!ssing in the wind again anyway.

Or the Harris, who scored 15 League goals the last time we were in League One?

And interested in a winger who played 43 games and scored 8 goals, who "couldn't get a new deal at Cheltenham".

Come on, you can do better than that.

He was released it really is that simple .
I can somewhat understand Kip, who twists things into a negative light to back up their glass half empty opinions. What do you stand to gain by practically lying to try and make people feel worse about their football team? A team I assume you support too? There is no opinion provided, just a lie to be an ass

Confidence in football can go a long way, and I think some will be surprised at how quickly a good run of games in League One can transform players who looked middling or low in confidence in the Championship.

Cumming, Long, Brown, Leigh, Brannagan and Harris all played a big part in us getting promoted. Goodrham will feel like a new signing. Spencer, Currie, De Keersmaeker and Mills should all be playing Championship football. McDonnell was a standout League One player too. Emakhu showed flashes last season, and should be more consistent against worse defences.

And let’s look at it on the flipside. Donley bossed it with Leyton Orient but wasn’t able to make the step up with Stoke or us. Rodrigues has been promoted twice to the Championship and he showed glimpses but never was fluent in the second division.

We can’t expect to roll teams over, but let’s not talk ourselves down either like we don’t have a cat in hell’s chance.
FFS!!

Who has said we don't have a cat in hell's chance??? NOBODY!!

And in response to your first sentence, I have been watching us since our last season in the top flight, 1987/88, so I have seen pretty much every single relegation in the clubs history, except one (1975/76) and anyone who thinks we can just come down with last season's squad, and p**s league one is kidding themselves, it won't be that simple.

Nobody is saying we would struggle if we played this season with last season's side, which is unlikely anyway, as we could easily lose one or two of last season's better players, but I will say it again, and see if you and others can get it through your heads this time, and understand the gist, and the basic logic of what I and others are saying:

We have a good side to take on league one next season, but we will need to bring in a handful of quality signings, to improve us, if we want to be a serious promotion contender. Other teams will strengthen on last season's squads, we will need to do the same.

People seem to be arguing for the sake of it, based on some arrogant mindset, that we're former Championship big dogs, so we'll walk all over league one, without even needing to strengthen our current squad!

Two or three injuries, and people will soon realise how wrong they were.

We must add quality to what we already have. It really is that simple, to think otherwise is arrogant, naive and complacent.

How and why can a position you finish in after 46 games possibly be false?

We were championship status when Des got us promoted. That is an incontrovertible truth.

We were sometimes a bit static at the back yes

I like that more forum members are using data to form or counter opinions. Many opinions on here are based off of rumour and emotions and stated as facts when not all the information is apparent

I don't think I've seen anyone say we don't need any signings. I've said a number of times we're still 4 players short of a full squad (GK, RW, AM, ST), and that's if we don't have any outgoings. But what I have seen is a number of people making out that our current squad is useless despite all the evidence to the contrary, panicking that there haven't been many signings in early July, and saying we need to break the bank again this summer despite spending amounts some League One sides could only dream of in the last few transfer windows.

If this summer we signed some of the players we already have at the club, there would be a lot of excitement for the season ahead. But because they're already our players and aren't brand new playthings, the usual suspects are talking them down and thinking we need wholesale changes when in truth we just need a select few additions.

We have a considerable amount of variables right now, that would stop me short of suggesting we are on the way to HMS p**s the league.

1) The transfer market is quiet; entirely because of the World Cup and players not yet getting released for transfers and loans from higher up the pyramid. This will be having a knock on effect for those we want to bring in, and those that we may lose. There is absolutely no way we go into the new season with all of our 'star' players. I would expect at least two of Mills, Brown, Helik, Spencer, Cumming or Currie to leave before August 31st. It will be up to the recruitment team to replace them adequately, within the budget that is set by the lesser seen Dusan. Let's hope the replacements are more Currie than they are Roosken!

2) There is nothing to suggest that Aaron Ramsey will be any good as a first team football manager in league 1. Literally, there is nothing to go on based on his managerial career to date. We are experimenting, and frankly gambling on a bloke that has no credentials in management. I'm not against taking a chance on Ramsey; but you'd be foolish not to recognise that he is a significant risk.

3) Leicester & Sheffield Wednesday will both have greater resources and pulling power than us, they are also far bigger clubs and potentially more attractive destinations for prospective new players. Indeed, we have already seen Slattery choose to go to them, i am sure they were not his only option.

Meanwhile, the like of Luton, Reading, Plymouth and Huddersfield (all similar size clubs to us) will have aspirations of a promotion push. Not to mention the smaller clubs that have a history of being there or thereabouts (Wycombe, Stockport and the well backed MK Dons).

4) Our squad is not used to winning or playing front-footed attacking football. It hasn't done so for two seasons. It will not be easy for Ramsey to get the existing squad to take more risks and completely change the playing style and their mentality, ready for the start of the season.

I would love us to storm the league and have Ramsey prove himself to be the next Kieran McKenna, and while that is possible, there is also a chance that he could be about as much good as a manager as Wayne Rooney.

Time will tell; but time will not be something he, his staff and the squad will be afforded a great deal of, if we do not hit the ground running in August and September.

I think there is a rub of green lucky position in leagues even if it’s over 46 games . Not referring to us but Charlton last season where the opposition had players sent off or deflected goals or own goals. There luck in the final third of the season was outrageous. Honestly thought we would catch them

I think you've made some salient points in the post, but this one I can't really get on board with. We have a good number of players in midfield and attack who want to get on the front foot and attack. BDK and Cam always look for a forward pass, Goodrham can and has scored from anywhere, Mills likes to consistently take on his man by either cutting in or going wide, and Emakhu has pace and trickery on the other side. And let's not forget all three of our left back options like to get forward. I think all of that added with the signing of Thomas and a couple of fearless young pacey loanees, and I'm not afraid that we can quickly turn into a side that plays front-footed attacking football.

Thank goodness for this. We were an absolutely rubbish Championship team. We made various League 2 teams look relatively decent. We won’t struggle. But the top League 1 teams would comfortably beat Championship strugglers.

Luton, who put up a much better battle than us, finished mid table.

Our fans are showing the same attitude our esteemed leadership are.
What is the relevance of Luton?
