Home Match Day Thread 26/04/25: Championship: OUFC v Sunderland

Remarkable chutzpah from a supporter of a club that, as recently as 2011, were playing L1 matches against Hartlepool, Rochdale and Dagenham & Redbridge.

Southampton aren't even a big club at this level FFS.

Just another in a long list of kids who, having seen their side play some Premier League football at some point, has lost all sense of reality and of their own (modest) club's standing in English football.

Just imagine when Bournemouth eventually drop down again!

I'm clearly missing something, but what part of "messing about" do you think happened before the game?

The pre-match routine was EXACTLY the same as every other game. The preparation, warm-up, team talk, everything. The one difference was that rather than having 11 "random" children lined up in the tunnel to come out with the players, you had the players wives and girlfriends waiting with their kids to be handed across in the seconds between leaving the changing room and entering the pitch. Immediately after, the children went back to their parents and the game began EXACTLY the same as it always does.

The same thing happened in dozens of games across the country this weekend and will happen at many more next weekend. It's happened across several seasons too.

I genuinely find it weird that this is even being mentioned as a thing, other than those who acknowledged that it was a nice touch and a good thing.

So if it's last game, do or die, winner takes all, v Luton, relegation or staying up, packed crowd, simmering white hot atmosphere, tension like never before, you're OK with players cradling their babies as they stare down their opponent trying to gain any tiny margin they can ? I'd want a much more dead eyed, focussed, approach. I'm a dad of four, all close in age, it's not like I'm some party pooper who doesn't want to indulge kids and babies !!!! However, I respect your view, I just don't agree with it.

Yes.

FCS.
This is up there with some of the inane stuff posted on the stadium planing thread .

Some of our lot are unbelievable, aren’t they?

We’ve just seen one of the best occasions at the Kassam, to secure our Championship status, no less. Yet we have people arguing the toss over cradling babies, mascots and how many children Josh Mac has 😂.

Get a grip fellas, Jesus!

Brackley town on Radox, cradling babies before big games. Yes please.
Another ten pages of this drivel.
BTW, Great Uncle Kip is entitled to support this club in any way he sees fit (unless he wears a Newcastle shirt in our end).
No one is questioning his entitlement but as a forum, he should be expected to be picked up on the perpetual negativity (‘we’re not going up/ staying up’ delete as applicable) and wilful trolling.

That support mostly involves dripping poison into ears, still it’s gone well again so won’t hear from him until a few weeks into the transfer window with the “going for it” comments.

Six children, though. Six children!

Are we going to get a full match replay on OUTV?
Yes where is it OUTV I didnt do my superstitious not listening or watching thing without assuming I could eventually watch the whole glorious afternoon in the comfort of my own home! Also I have been paying for a service that was frequently provided for by sky which I also pay for. Where is it?

So as an American fan, the games have been shown live roughly 50:50 on OUTV and a local streaming channel called Paramount+.
Paramount get first dibs on choosing games (and they have typically shown about half the games any given week).....OUTV show the Oxford games they don't pick. But both of them are then able to show full match replays.

On Paramount+, the Sunderland full match replay was up and viewable less than an hour after the final whistle. On OUTV......still waiting......

Oh, and Paramount+ cost me $6.99 per month. And for that, I also got the Champions League, Europa League, Carabao Cup, and a very large number of TV shows and movies. OUTV cost me £25 per month! Good thing for them that I'm a captive customer......

Is anyone else mostly overwhelmed that @Big Ron is arguing with @Big Ronaldo . I’m in a parallel universe at this point where we never let Jack go but we are a professional tennis team

It's like the Chester v Chesterfield derby but with go-karts, cheese and MDMA.

Saturday.
What. A. Day!

Not only did we produce one of our best performances of the season but every man Jack contributed. It was difficult choosing a MOM but I decided on Ben Nelson, although Ruben ran him very close.

Not only was that the best atmosphere at the KasStad this season but possibly ever! It just shows that when the players, coaches, drum and fans are all singing from the same hymn sheet (literally in the case of the fans) you can even create an atmosphere in a three sided concrete skip!

If that was the best Sunderland has to offer, I would fear for them in the Premier League.

Hoping that Luton get relegated because of their obnoxious fans. Do you remember how they chased the York players off the pitch in the Conference playoffs?

I feel totally relaxed now and can’t wait to see you all at Swansea.

And now you’re gonna believe us
And now you’re gonna believe us
And now you’re gonna believe UUUUUUSSSSSS
THE YELLOWS ARE STAYING UP!

Sunderland sold out their allocation/ Bit of drama also as teh KO time was still TBC as a few days ago considering both clubs coming from the north

Think there could be a lot of Mackems crying at the end of the game
Or at the end of next season if they should beat Sheff Utd, which I doubt.

Whoever goes up out of the two of them will really struggle I’d imagine.

All 3 who went up last season were arguably better than the sides going up this year, and they’ve barley won a handful of games between them and all coming straight back down with barely a whimper.

Leeds will be alright provided then can get a decent goalkeeper, replace Manor Solomon with someone equally as good, ditch Bamford and buy a proper striker and add a couple of players for depth

Personally rubbing my hands together at the prospect of Wrexham going knee deep in wages for Bamford and Cairney. 2 players made out of glass at the one level you can’t afford it.

I think Leeds will compete in the premier league. Can’t see them struggling for the 35 points they’re going to need - suspect they’ll get a reborn Kalvin Phillips back and spend a further £100m wisely. Burnley, the play off winner and West Ham are my bets to come down.

I’d love West Ham to go down! Recent high achievers like Brentford might run out of road too. I hope Leeds can make a go of it.

Ipswich are not better than Leeds or Burnley for me, Southampton definitely not.
